For Alexandria you coud do: Fish Market, vermillion, eamonn's chippery, hank's oysters, Rustico, Brabo, Tasting Room Brabo, and Evening Star. If you go to Evening Star try to go to Cheesetique for a glass of wine and Dariy Godmother for custard.

I don't think it’s too bad as long as you call one week in advance. I went there last month and had a great experience. You really don’t know what you get but just go with the flow. You will be surprised!

Graffiato: Recommend Chef's Tasting
Sounds great and your chef's tasting sounds a lot better than my visit last Wednesday for dinner. My experience was so poor that I don't think I can consider doing the chef's tasting that was well described above. I found the food very average and the service staff to be literally off the street with no knowledge of food. Very fast foodish.
Graffiato by Mike Isabella opening soon...
I went there last Wednesday night and I am sorry but it lacked in many areas. I personally found the service overwhelming to the point that it was disorganized. I ordered a glass of lambrusco, which was flat. Then proceeded with the bread basket with the roasted cauliflower appetizer. The bread basket was alright, nothing special and was brought out a lot earlier than the cauliflower dish. The cauliflower dish was indicated to be piping hot/oven roasted. When it was served it was luke warm at its best and oily. We had also ordered the lamb thighs and pepperoni sauce, which never came and forgotten. The pizza was good, but I prefer matchbox-similar style. We finished off with the pistachio ice cream, which was fine. It was very hectic upstairs and the staff seemed not very attentive to detail. Service was almost fast foodish. Overall, would have expected much better and different. Very disappointed and would not go again.

JFX Farmer's Market 2011!
I finally woke up early and went out to the market. Seeing the sunrise was also nice. It was awesome for the DC metro/Baltimore area! I have been to a lot of markets in and around DC, domestically, and abroad. It reminded me a bit (tad) of the borough market in London. Thank you for this post and for everyone giving their suggestions, because it really helped. I got eggs from the hen's nest, bean salsa, olives from the pickle guy (I have had these before from the Eastern Market), cheese from South Mountain Creamery (I have done home delivery from them in the past), and some other random goodies. The produce was amazing, of course not sure about the organic-ness of it all. I didn't get much because I am overloaded right now with my CSA. All the food vendors looked great too. It was a bit early for the pizza but I did see them out there too. There was also a wool/yarn vendor, which I thought was neat. If you are looking for a lot local meat you should hit the market. There were a lot of vendors. Also, there was a vendor for ice cream, kettle corn, spices for chili and such and so many more. If you are a true foodie you gotta check this market out...
Top Five Go-To Restaurants in DC Metro Area?
I was just wondering if any of you chowhounders could share what your Go-To restaurants are right now...
I know we have had similar posts in the last couple of years but the DC metro dining scene is always changing. I myself would like to stay fresh with what is really good food in our area.
Thanks for sharing.

Does anyone have any experience with this CSA? They seem to have an excellent sustainable study at this foundation.

CSA 2011 Season
Thank you ABalliett-totally agree! That is exactly why I am so hesitant.
CSA 2011 Season
I recently/just looked at the one they have through this restaurant called Food Matters in Alexandria. I don't think they have a good portion (less than half a grocery bag is not enough produce for a full share) in my opinion. In addition, when I went to check them out for the csa I ate at the restaurant and the food was extremely bland. Bison Steak was tough, Bean Burger very bland and accompanied Fries were soggy. I don't know about Food Matters but it isn't for me.
CSA 2011 Season
Can you please explain what happened? I didn't realize that they used other farms.
CSA 2011 Season
Thank you for your comments and review because they are very helpful.
