I won't be going back to TP. It also has an American tourist trap feel to it. The Parisian beers were nice, but the staff were really impressed with themselves, and not particularly skilled at running a room. The food was ok, but a step below the chef driven places like Septime or Pierre Sang. This is also a place marking up some bottles 5x retail. |

I had almost the same menu there not too long ago except the starter was a yellowtail sashimi treatment. What's cooler is that I was able to reserve the day of. Not sure how that happened but the guy said he was looking...looking...Yes! You have a table! |

I had an unexpectedly good meal there last month. I couldn't get in to any of the 35 better restaurants in the neighborhood, and I was with a friend. No reservation. I give the front of the house a look like "I know this isn't going to be a very good meal." We split the cote de boeuf and it was big and excellent. My friend is not a big beef eater (Hindu), and he's still raving about it. I had the boudin noir starter which was also very good plus a bottle of an excellent Rasteau that was one of the cheaper bottles on the wine list (got the last bottle). Anyway, I thought I should share.... |

I had a similar thought about my lunch there a few weeks ago, awesome langoustines, but all else was just OK for the new lunch price. One excellent white CdP was marked up 5X retail as well. Also, it was looking like their lunch is becoming a tourist trap. |

Haven't been in years, but I did go see the Stones with Tim in '95. Not even sure if he's still around... |

I see a lot a 4X or more mark up over retail these days. Any place that's closer to 2X works for me. |

Waiting times for Le Comptoir Pierre Sang on a Sat night There was no wait this past Saturday night. I am pretty sure they will be closed until January 8 or something like that. Saturday night was their last seating of the year. |

Paris for the Holidays (Dec 23-Jan 2) Zygomates is still around? I havent been is years. |

Where to Buy Oysters on New Year's Eve (Given It's a Monday) Lorenzo has been open at the Richard Lenoir market on NYE, Christmas Eve and Christmas regardless of day of the week in the past, so have some of the other oyster and fois gras vendors. Can't say for sure if this will happen this year. It's unpredictable. As usual, I'll be buying racks of oysters at the RL market this season. |

It is not easy to screw couscous..." Ah, the good old days.... I went to a place in Ornex outside Geneva a couple years ago and I swear they dumped a can of something on the plate... |

What does "fait maison" at a restaurant mean? I can't stand it when my Metro microwave dishes are messed by restaurants. Metro does a fine job on its own. |
|
|
And that hood would not be my first choice for a place to be left hanging.... |

Restaurant Closures end Dec/Jan Help I'll be at Chine Massena for dim sum like the last three New Years Days. You'd be advised to do the same. |

Cotes de Boeuf, L'Ami Louis, Price What about CAJ? I think he's using Desnoyer. Had it there this summer for lunch and it was epic. I think it was 90 euro, and I don't think any two diners would need any larger a portion. I couldn't eat for the rest of the day. Apart from the food, is the dining experience still as tedious as people say at Ami Louis? |

Hmmm. Close to my place, but I never go. Been meaning to.... |

Did RdC exist before Paquin? Paquin was at the St. Amarante until some time after 1995. |

Finding equivalent to NY coffee in Paris Probably the same coffee as Monoprix. |

Finding equivalent to NY coffee in Paris I've been French pressing 2 for 3 euro bricks of 100% arabica from Dia, and liking it. <facepalm> |

I like a good salade composee as much as the next guy. You know, some lardons, gesiers or slices of magret fume. Come on, everybody likes that.... |

Cheap, African, Asian, South Asian, and of course French - Paris Let's make this place huge. If you don't want people to show up, you don't put up a website. I find it very unlikely you'll experience any static at a place like this. Of course, I live in West Africa, so maybe my perspective is different.... |

Cheap, African, Asian, South Asian, and of course French - Paris Somebody on this board knows of a west african place that serves groundnut soup and rice. I forgot where it is, but it's for immigrant workers from what I recall. There you would encompass what is an very common meal in Mali, Senegal and Burkina. Rwanda has rather non descript east african cusine. Doubt any rwandan restaurants exist. |

Better food is what I mean. I find myself at chez paul (not my idea) every few years, and the food is always not very good. Cant say I recall any corked wine, but I usually try to limit my displeasure by not ordering a huge meal and lotsa wine. YMMV.... The Bistro DP is a very good deal for large steaks, not Severo quality, but tasty and huge. Also they always have decent wines for under 30 euros a bottle, sometimes closer to 20. Also, its down the street from my place..... |

It's what Chez Paul on rue de lappe was 20 years ago. |

Good Chinese restaurants in Philly Ocean Harbor on Race walks pretty tall for dim sum. Sang Kee is still decent, but not godly like it was >10 years ago. I would bet there are better duck houses in the city. |

What dish to order at what place in Belleville (Asian Food) Chine Massena in the 13th is a real dim sum restaurant. |

What dish to order at what place in Belleville (Asian Food) She means big tables of folks eating dim sum from carts and supplementing with dishes from the kitchen. There are real dim sum restaurants in paris, but they are not that great. |

But US Dogs behind BHV is cool. Looks like the guy is making money hand over fist. Yes, some folks in Paris want a NYC style hotdog with kraut from time to time... |

Pressure-cooker chicken stock [split from France board] I recommend bringing over a bunch of this http://www.iherb.com/Better-Than-Bouillon-Organic-Chicken-Base-8-oz-227-g/31928 or http://www.roundeyesupply.com/Custom-... Both options are about 100 times better than cubes. I don't have any use for the whole Knorr or Maggi product line. |

Paris food scene - mediocre at best? I have every decent restaurant I know mapped in my phone GPS at this point, so I always know what's close to where I am. Of course, I carry a Dell Streak 5 as a cellphone which is like walking around with a laptop... |

You sure you don't want to head to Macon and get some Beaujolais crus? |
