Looking for nice downtown LA restaurant.... close-ish to the Ahmanson

Any ideas? I'm from NYC. Something along the lines of Pastis or Cafe Luxembourg or the Standard Grill - a la nice but not fancy or stuffy. Not too noisy. Yummy food. Thanks. Any tips appreciated.

Cafe Luxembourg now profoundly mediocre

Does Cafe Lux have a new chef and/or new management? That's what it feels like lately. The lights aren't as dim, the menu is shortened (and not to my liking), and some of their classics - even the hot fudge sundae - have been reinvented and decidely not for the better. I am very disappointed. It just feels different, not as warm, and the food is not as good as it was a year or two ago.

West Branch Restaurant?

Had dinner on 10/31. A little frenetic, service all over the place, but it was opening night, after all. Food was good - country salad with a twist, excellent burger, though the fried quail was a bit over the top and overly oily. I'll be curious to go back and sample more from the very large menu. What I liked least was the interior - it doesn't seem to work. Wood paneled without personality or much decoration, which creates a formal board-room feeling vibe... and a wait-staff in Levis, which seems at odds with the just described interior.

Paris weekend reviews: Au Fils des Saisons, Aux Lyonnais, Robert et Louise

Just returned from a great weekend in Paris - sunny, warm-ish, great weather to walk around the Marais and people-watch....

We ate VERY well at these three restaurants. Au Fils des Saisons was excellent, though not revelatory. Very sturdy food. The restaurant itself is in a very non-descript area, and while it is perfectly pleasant, I was maybe a wee bit disappointed.

However, Saturday @ Aux Lyonnais was extraordinary -- the food was otherworldly. We loved the atmosphere of the place, and the cuisine -- from the appetizers to the desserts (get the floating island AND the pear souffle) were off-the-charts amazing.

Sunday dinner at Robert et Louise was wonderful -- boisterous, happy, crowded, and just fun. People crammed together eating delicious meat off wooden plates. The perfect Sunday meal. The potatoes, the house salad, the house wine --- top to bottom all were simple and great.

Reservations are rather essential at the latter two. I'd go back to them both in a heartbeat. And all three restaurants are very reasonable in terms of price.

Help - Sunday dinner in Paris this weekend

Hi we're staying in the Marais and looking for a good, hearty dinner in warm surroundings. Does not have to be in Marais, and certainly not looking for something fancy --- but it is a friend's birthday, so a lovely place with great food and good atmosphere. Thanks.
