opinions on the taste of food are always subjective. it's fine to disagree with someone's opinions on the taste of food.

as far as knowledge and credibility go, gold's c.v. stands on its own.

i've seen that place, but i'm going to stick to the glendale/burbank axis for this go round.

i'll probably end up at one of those places on san fernando rd or glenoaks, like the paradise bakery, which has a deli section, or jon's, or gefer farms or something. i don't know.

there's a joint on central or brand that's supposed to have killer sangkak, but i don't know about their deli items.

the recipe on serious eats is pretty easy and is tasty.

i thought i'd take time out from reading about sizzlers and helping kevin order to bump this thread:

armenian take out food? glendale? bueller? anyone?

y'know, esparza has always been reliable when it comes to where to get tasty food, but beyond that, almost everything he writes and says makes my butt clench.

like...emotionally?

i think tonyc might be right. the guest taps are probably better at golden road than most of the house brews, although they're just fine.

i wish golden road/tony's darts away and more places had some sours on tap.

food at the morrison is pretty good; the cocktails are more hit and miss. i had a good beer there.

oddly, i do give golden road points for the many vegan options, because i like to eat healthy when i'm horking down a handful of high abv beers.

i always want to like the food at golden road more than i do. it's certainly more than a notch or two below the parish.

on the other hand, i love the space, especially when the train goes by.
the beer is excellent as well.

i believe it was in hawthorne.

myself, i don't think they had any intention of committing random homicide.

you may be right. then again, i am entertained by samuel l. jackson getting the drop on a pair o' idiots, and of john travolta offering to "shoot them on general principle."

well, there's two diners.
jack rabbit slim's is one, where uma and travolta get their chuck berry on.
then there's the diner that bookends the movie, where tim roth and amanda plummer rob the place, and travolta and sam jackson show up.

hi, my name's linus, and i care about the ocean, coral reefs and all of the living organisms that are growing extinct due to dynamite fishing.

and i don't give a damn lefevre has called his restaurant "fishing with dynamite."

and i've got cash dollars to wager the number of diners alienated by the name of this restaurant is BEYOND insignificant, statistically or otherwise.

is it possibly time to re-visit this calling business? does sergio have days of the week he's more/less likely to be in situ? has his schedule gotten any more consistent?

i'll second this. on the other hand, sometimes papaya king hits the spot.

i've never left portos wishing i hadn't taken an extra xanax to deal with the place.

saw them at golden farms market on san fernando rd. in glendale this week.

they've been on bourdain shows before -- well, homme anyway. i preferred the 'no reservations' theme myself, and, sadly, can't recall an episode where jon spencer made an appearance.

according the end credits, the opening theme music is by josh homme and mark lanegan.

bourdain's shows have featured women, women chefs, women foodies and female fixers on a regular basis.

just off the top of my head: the woman who helped him through paris. the dynamite little girl in the hudson valley. the woman who navigated him through korea. the women who showed him around brazil.
and on...

well, you dont know until you try. it would be my first step. lots of nice people use bad language. maybe they didnt realize how loud they were being. maybe they didnt know they were bothering anybody.
whats the harm in asking?

i must live in a different universe. i still don't see the harm in something along the lines of a cheerful, "hey guys, could you tone it down in volume just a tad, please? thanks."

i dunno...why pass the buck? if the diners are annoying you, doesn't it make sense to ask them politely to tone it down? that seems the logical first step to me.
