MSP- best burger ? (not jucy lucy)
The mini-burgers at the Herkimer are excellent - five of 'em on a plate for less than $7. Bonus sweet potato fries on the side.
[MSP] Church Dinners
Plymouth Congregational Church on Franklin and Nicollet isn't a Catholic church, but it offers Sunday Dinners and Wednesday Dinners year-round. The food is good, reminds me of supper club fare. And check out the church sanctuary - it's gorgeous.

MSP Best Gyros?
The gyros at Spiro's, as well as the other prepared food, aren't particularly good. But it is definitely worth stopping in for imported greek feta cheese. I used to run across town for the imported stuff. They have interesting and cheap grocery items (I once found a large canister of walnut oil for less than $5). One thing about Spiro's - they close early during the week and are only open until 2 or 3 pm on the weekend.
end of the year survey: What were your best 5 meals in MSP in 2007?
1) ricotta ravioli with brown butter & biscotti topping, at the modern cafe
2) steak helene with roasted brussels sprouts, pommes frites, at barbette
3) tomato confit salad with goat cheese and champagne vinaigrette, at barbette
4) risotto with butternut squash and pumpkin seeds at the town talk diner
5) corn on the cob from the farmer's market
Southeast Asian fruits in MSP/STP
Years ago, I spent several months in Thailand around this time of year and came to appreciate two SE Asian fruit varieties - the rose apple and the green mango.
Technically the green mango is simply an unripe mango - a rose apple is a small red fruit with a floral taste. Does anyone know of a grocery in the TC that might specialize in exotic fruits such as these?
MSP: "decent" dinner near St Paul U of M campus
Just off University and Raymond is a really good italian restaurant, Cafe Biaggio.
