Has anyone been able to make reservations to this place? According to their twitter, they're supposed to be on Open Table, but thats not the case at the moment.

No particular cuisine. With such a large group, hard to pinpoint a preference. Just looking for a nice place in terms of ambience. Under $20 per person minus drinks. I

Work Luncheon Suggestions

Group of 30-35

Located in PB but willing to go in 15 min drive radius.

Would prefer to avoid preset menu.

To give an idea of interests, I tried World Famous and JRDN but unable to reserve. Open to any suggestions.

Best of SD 2013 Winners. .

I find the winners of "Chinese" the most comical. All credibility is gone when I see P.F Changs and Panda Express

Addison Champagne

Went to Addison a few weeks ago. When you first sit down they bring some choices of champagne.

Everyone at the table passed on it. Then we discussed if the champagne was complimentary or not. I thought for sure it was charged but then thought maybe it was complimentary.

So simple question - Is the champagne complimentary or not?

Need Potluck Cold Main Dish

Need some ideas for a pot luck. The last potluck I brought a subpar item. My reputation took a hit, so I want to step it up this time.

Ingredients - open although I'd like to use avocados

There will be no stove/oven. Item will be brought to work in morning. Then at lunch time, all items will be brought out.

Can't be a salad. That category was already filled.

Javier Plascencia at El Take It Easy - March 5

Eh, I wish I saw this post earlier. I'm on the waiting list unless I want to make reservations at 10:00 pm.

For those of you who have been to Mision 19, do you remember the cost of the tasting menu or app/entrees? They don't have any prices listed on their website.

1st Choice Restuarants Booked - Need New Recs

Have visitors coming on short notice and tried to make reservations for Saturday at

Addison
Kitchen 1540
Cucina Urbana
Georges

Well, they'll all booked on opentable. I'll still try to call tomorrow but in case they aren't free I need another place.

Definitely don't want any steakhouses and I'd like to avoid the Gaslamp area. The restuarants I tried to book give you an idea of what I'm looking for. I was thinking of Tapenade in La Jolla but don't know much about it.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

Best Chilaquiles (with corn tortillas) in SD?

I like the chilaquiles at the Mission in North Park. I can't remember if they come with corn tortillas though

Mariscos German

I've been wanting to try them out as well but I'm getting confused about which to try. I read somewhere about a truck being sold, different owner, etc.

Is there any particular one I should try or is there food consistent throughout their trucks?

Hillcrest Farmer's Market Hummus Vendor

If anyone has been to the Hillcrest Farmer's Market, there is a vendor who sells a wide selection of hummus.

I can't go to the market on Sunday. Does anyone know if this vendor has a store or sells at other farmer markets?

thanks

Need Answer from someone familiar with All-Clad Fry Pan

I'm looking at All-Clad fry (actually it's a saute pan) pan Amazon is selling a 12 inch All-Clad stainless for $90 with lid (1st Link). As I'm still looking over the products I find another 12 inch All-Clad stainless (2nd link) for $115 which completely confuses me. They sell the lid itself for $50.

So basically the 1st link you get the same pan $25 cheaper with a $50 cover. Doesn't make sense to me. I start to think the 1st link is some cheaper version but as far as I can tell these pans are both from the Stainless line of All-Clad. The amazon product description is brief and not helpful. I'm not an expert on All-Clad so can someone look at the pans and tell me if they're the same quality.

Spanish Tortilla - Finish under broiler?

I'm not sure what the color should exactly be.

The Spanish restuarant I go to never has the top browned. It's not even golden. And this place is pretty authentic. But when I google images of Spanish Tortilla most of the images are browned tops.

Spanish Tortilla - Finish under broiler?

Interesting that it was that wet on the inside. Haven't tried a tortilla/frittata like that before.

Spanish Tortilla - Finish under broiler?

So I've made a spanish tortilla before and I can never invert it properly. I know the process of how to do it but something always goes wrong and I don't get that perfect shape.

I read someone said to skip the inverting and just put it under the broiler.

2 questions

Does this change the texture/flavour of the tortilla as compared to if I inverted it?

How long does it take to get browned?

Thanks

I wonder if a Spanish person thinks this is a sin to cook it this way.

Pepper Mill Length?

I was about to buy a Peugeot pepper mill but I couldn't decide on the length. They seem to come in every dang size. 3 1/2, 5, 7, 9, 12" I know I should factor in if I store it in the cupboards so that it will fit or leave it outside. It seems trivial to debate the length of a pepper mill but I really can't decide.

I'm curious what length pepper mill you have and why

SD: Restaurant Week

Restaurant Week is coming up Jan 17-22. The website is up with participating restaurants. Not sure if its been up for awhile but I didn't see any posts about it through a search.

I checked out a few of the menus. So far the Prado caught my eye. I like what they're offering and I've always wanted to try it out.

Any places/menus catch your eye?

Homemade frozen dumplings in East Bay?

Thanks for the info. I'll try out Yuen Hop and see how their dumplings are. Glad there is a place. I was starting to think that I'd have to make my own dumplings. Haven't done that for years.

Homemade frozen dumplings in East Bay?

Shui Jiao is exactly what I want. I used the word 'boxed' as the dumplings I want to avoid. I'm Chinese, i want the authentic stuff.

I just looked up the website for Shan Dong. I don't see any prices for frozen dumplings.

Homemade frozen dumplings in East Bay?

Just moved up from LA. Down there I knew some lady who made various dumplings from home. She would freeze them and then sell them to friends and acquitances. That way I could take them home and cook it whenever I wanted. She eventually opened a restuarant and continued to sell them from there. Anyone know some where I can get decent frozen dumplings in the East Bay? Was told of a place in SF chinatown but it's a bit of hassle for me to get out there. I want to avoid those boxed dumplings from supermarkets.

Taco Lita in Arcadia?

I grew up in Arcadia. Taco Lita has been around since i was a little kid. It's been garbage the entire time. I compare this to the setup of a Panda Express. Asian food that's not really Asian food and geared for non-Asians.

The friends that I have that frequent this place are all non-hispanics. I have never seen a Hispanic person at this place. (I know some prolly go but its minimal compared to something like King Taco)

Din Tai Fung -is it that bad??

They aren't horrible but to me the place is definitely overrated. I've been there twice and both times I wasn't impressed. My mom is from Taiwan and thinks this place ain't that special at all.

Where Can I Find a Tofu Burger?

Thx for the replies. While reading reviews for Fanta Sea Grill I found a link to Orean Health Express in Pasadena on Lake. Apparently its some sort of fast food vegatarian. From the menu on the web says they got a BBQ Tofu Burger and a a Filet Tofu Burger. I'm try and check it out sometime this week and post a review.

Where Can I Find a Tofu Burger?

Searched through past posts, still can't find an answer. Does anyone know where I can try a tofu burger? I'd hope for a location in the SGV area but I have a feeling that ain't going to happen. I guess I'd be willing to substitute a good veggie burger instead of tofu. thanks
