Rockport food recs?

Heading to Rockport, TX for a week, and looking for some food recommendations.

On our way, we are going to get Freebirds, and awlays get breakfast burritos.

I have a car, it does not have to be kid friendly. Nothing expensive.

Specifically, I really am looking for oysters on the half shell. I see they have an oyster festival early in the year, so I have to belive they are around!

Thanks for any help for the local scene there!

Food Scars - Things you will never eat again.

My experience with oysters has been the same. I would mask them in hot sauce, horseraddish, lemon, or crackers. But I would never chew them. Simply swallow them like a shot.

Then, I actaully chewed one (Louisiana oyster), and loved it! Now I am too far inland to get them cheaply.

Food Scars - Things you will never eat again.

Flu is the same reson I will not eat Arriba Fire Roasted Salsa. I ate some while I was sick, and it ruined me. I used to eat a whole ajr in one sitting. I still enjoy other salsas, and even found a TJ knockoff (Chipolte Garlic Salsa) that I will eat.

Slingers? [St. Louis]

Always request scrambled.
The Eat-Rite on Chouteau had a cook that used to only make them one way, with over easy and sausage, but I haven't been to that one in a long time.
Courtesy Diner (both Kingshighway and Hampton) ask.
My slingers of late have come from Tiffany's on Manchester, but they are really crowded and SLOW on a given night when the college crowds are there.

Brains in St. Louis?

As of about 3 months ago, Schottzie's @ 11428 Concord Village Avenue still had brain sandwiches, and their menu still lists them as of 5-Nov. www.schottzies.com

SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI - Are there any good restaurants?

Somewhere, while looking for the best Cashew Chicken in Springfield, I read that the owner of Fire & Ice is the son of Leong's. I had it there, and it really was deep fried chicken pieces in a sweet brown sauce. Good, but I won't go back for it.

Where to buy meat in St. Louis?

Perhaps you should try G&W Bavarian Meat market on Kingshighway. While I was picking up some brautwurst, a woman was picking up a whole side of pork belly for her hsuband who made his own bacon. She did have to call ahead for it.

Dickey's barbeque chain to St. Louis

Correct. My neighboor says it's a little more expensive than Bandanas. I personally have not been there. There is a Hardee's and a Bob Evans in front, too.

Suggestions in Peoria, IL

As a visitor to Peoria (for Caterpillar), I have tried, thanks to this board:
Thanh linh - Good Vietnamese. I had a pho dish on a cold Feb night.
Haddad's - Like Anne said, it is really brash, but the food was good and servings large. First time I had tried baba ganoush and tabbouleh.
Alexander's - I find their steaks tasty, and cooking it yourself to be fun with customers who are comforatble with doing that. A few large beers always helped to ease any anxiety of the DIY grilling.
The Hofbrau - A good selection of German beer on draft, and German food. The waitress suggested the pork chops, but I got the Jager schnitzel, and loved it. Lots of locals there, it seems in a cozy small place. Be prepared to wait, and they aren't open on Mondays.
Jim's is touted to be the best steak house in town, but I have not been. I am told it has a dark wood atmosphere, if that is your thing.
Jonah's seafood - Menu said fish is flown in few times a week. I remember the food being good, but really pricey. I returned once by myself to have some oysters. $10 for 1/2 dozen kind of shocked me, but then again, the last time I ate oysters OTHS was in New Orleans, so I was spoiled by cheap oysters.
Burger Barge - good burger in a fun atmosphere.
Up Hwy 29 seems to be the pork tenderloin sandwich, but I only had one in Lacon, IL, and it was OK.

Taco Bell Chili Cheese Burrito-Gone Forever?

Rolla - No it's abot 2 hours southwest of St. Louis. Near nothing..LOL. Peerless Park is a township inside St. Louis suburbs.

Taco Bell Chili Cheese Burrito-Gone Forever?

I had two chili -cheese burritos fron TB in Rolla, MO over St. Pats weekend 2009. As an act of protest, I still order them as chilitos. And the Peerless Park, MO TB still has them, or did as of about 3 months ago.

Migas, migas...where have you gone? (St. Louis)

I am with you. I fell in love with migas in College Station. I once read in Sauce that the Royale on Kingshighway served them. I didn't see them on their menu, but I suspect it was a Sunday morning only item thing, as the article also mentioned the buffet of Bloody Mary fixings. Just found the link

Chinese Buffet in St. Louis (STL) - Your favorite/best?

Hi!

I have family in town, and they are craving a Chinese buffet. Almost had them talked into Sesame Chinese on Watson, but no go.

I have been to Sunny China lately, and it was better than I remember 7 years ago. Another family member told me First Wok was still there, still pretty good, and still the same worn out interior.

Driving is fine. BTW, I have looked at http://www.hughchou.org/hugh/hugh_eats.html

Thanks for your suggestions!

Taqueria El Bronco St. Louis, SLT - Yummy!

Having moved back to St. Louis after a 6 year stint in Texas, I have been yearing for some good Mexican food. I tried Mi Lupita (Fenton-buddy's favorite eating/watering hole), Casa (my sisters favorite), Haciandia (not my choosing) and Qudoba (hey it must be like Freebirds, right?). Ho hum...

Then I was reading thr River Front Times Best of 2005, and for tacos, it listed Tawueria El Branco. What the heck, I thought.

Wow. It met what I think is good Mexican food in St. Louis. To start, the red and green salsas were how I liked them. Spicy and pureed. Tasting more of chilis than tomatos. The tomatillo salsa was based on sour cream and heavenly.

Per the artice, I got two tacos, one Taco al Pastor, which had marinated pork with raw onions and fresh cilantro. Very spicy and good. I also had a Taco de carne asada, which was steak. That was good too. Both served on two layers of corn tortillas.

One of the other patrons was dining on "seafood soup" which looked good. Might have to try that when I return.

Like an article in the Post Dispatch, I believe one of the waitresses spoke little English, since the other translated for me. I received good service while there. The place was a little warm, but it was 95 outside.

Oh to find good Mexican in St. Louis!
