dinner at VIN - a weird experience
From out of town and wandered into the Vin and the patio tonight... it was delicious. The servers were very nice and friendly, a little shaky (had to ask for water and bread). The food was delicious. Beet salad and lump crab flatbread were great. The asparagus salad and green curry mussel specials were out of this world. If I lived in town, would definitely have drinks and apps on the patio. I did not notice that it was next to a burger king or felt that the neighboring buildings/parking lots took from the dining experience. I would definitely recommend Vin! In fact, I plan on heading for drinks there some other night during the rest of my visit!
Sweet 16 Group Dinner
I am not sure of the place you are referring to. The Enormous room is on Mass Ave and has live entertainment. Maybe you are thinking of the Green Street Grill that is just off Mass Ave in Central on Green Street. They have live music and used to have salsa dancing one night a week ... not sure if they still do. I always had tons of fun there.
Sweet 16 Group Dinner
Not sure about the food, but maybe a murder mystery dinner for entertainment - http://www.mysterycafe.com/.
Tangierino in Charlestown has belly dancing shows every day and I think the food is good.
Graduation Dinner in Baltimore
Saturday in May - my little sister is graduating from Loyola.
Graduation Dinner in Baltimore
Hello!
Looking for dinner recs for a graduation dinner in Baltimore. It will be 8 relatively unadventurous diners, including 2 vegetarians. Hoping for a restaurant that is not too expensive (approx.TH $30-50 pp), but still with a nice atmosphere. Henningers seemed like a good fit, but would like some more suggestions.
Thank you!
FOUR DAYS LEFT IN BALTIMORE :: WHAT NOT TO MISS
There are sister restaurants in San Francisco and Cambridge, MA called The Helmand. They are also Afgran restaurants, owned by the brother of an ex-afgan president. I wonder if the restaurant in Baltimore is relatedl....
If you only had two months left in Boston...
In no particular order , plces I would definitely go at least one more time and some fav dishes:
Blue Ginger - shittake leek spring rolls, garlic black pepper lobster, sake miso butterfish
L'Espalier - Wine Monday or Cheese Tuesday
Clio
Anna's
Sel de la Terre - malinos champ cocktail, all the petit gouter, and the baked goat cheese salad
Eastern Standard - drinks (esp the whiskey smash and cubano) and the green salad
Aquitaine - mussels, endive salad, and lemon tart
Oleana - absolutely sit on the patio, friend mussels, and all the pret a manger
Craigie Street - any of the terraines
The Helmand - everything
Bukowskis - I like their vegetarian food
Sweet Basil - mussels, rosemary chicken, fra diavolo (spelling?)
Franklin Cafe - late night drinks and food
Pho Republic - cocktails and apps, maybe some over priced pho
Upper Crust
Capital Grill
Not in Boston, but Fore Street in Portland, Arrows in Ogunquit, and Straight Wharf on Nantucket
Lastly, Top of the Hub late night, for champagne, okay jazz, an amazing view of the greater Boston area - the perfect way to toast good-bye to Boston
Disappointment at the Biltmore
Well, the co-owners (gm, chef and bar managers) all walked out.
Things aren't going to be as good there.
Here's the thread: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/490691
Aquitaine 3/11
I agree. The purpose of RW is to increase revenue during slows months, thus more often than not, the menu will not include pricey items. Also, no offense to fellow chowhounders... from what I understand, most restaurateurs view people who dine during RW as people who do not typically dine at their restaurant. That is not an excuse for poor food, but I think Aquitaine definitely deserves a chance during a "normal" week.
Two Days in Boston
Absolutely agree with either La Campania or Il Capriccio. Also...
-B&G Oysters in the South End
-L'Espalier and Clio if money is no object
-Helmand is a hole-in-the-wall in east Cambridge, but delicious Afghanistan food
-Salts and Craigie Street Bistrot in Cambridge
-Upper Crust for pizza
-Anna's Taqueria for burritos
Your favorite thing to eat in and around Boston at the moment
The Chef, GM, and bar manager are all part owners. They might have been bought out, but I don't think they can be let go.
Do you know the link for that?
Should I sneak into your college's cafeteria for lunch?
Really? B/c I think it is pretty nasty. It is Amarack after all... there is nothing fresh, nothing local. At least they have veggie burgers for a somewhat healthy alternative.
Where have you always had a bad meal?
Surprisingly No. 9 Park and I think I am the only person who has negative experiences there. I want to like it so bad and have been numerous times (my friends love the cocktails), but am repeatedly disappointed by the food and/or the service. I love the Butcher Shop and B&G, its just something about No. 9.
Graduation Recommendations?
Absolutely Grill 23 for steak. Not Ciao Bella. Would L'Espalier be too stuffy? Maybe No. 9 Park? Wherever you go, make a reservation soon. Typical celebratory restaurants book out far in advance around graduation time.
Should I sneak into your college's cafeteria for lunch?
Definitely not Simmons College. MIT supposedly has a falafel restaurant.. one that was in Watertown. It is delicious and I totally forget the name. But if it is there, it is absolutely worth sneaking on to MIT!
Your favorite thing to eat in and around Boston at the moment
Shiitake-leek spring rolls and Indonesian curry pasta at Blue Ginger - two dished I will go to my grave craving.
Currently, I am into simple green salads. The garden salad at Petit Robert with the crusted goat cheese and the green salad w/ feta at eastern standard. Oh, and the greek salad at Sweet Basil and the baked goat cheese salad at Sel da la terre.

The pickled veggies there are amazing and the wedge salad is simple and basic, but delicious.
Those pub fries are heavenly...
Charleston a for first-timer
I would appreciate it if you could provide the links. I've only found 2. One addresses more fine dining and the other has only 1 response.
Charleston a for first-timer
Hello there,
I am heading to Charleston next month. My family and I are visiting a sibling at College of Charleston. This is my first time and I am hoping for some recommendations. We are staying at/on Folly Beach and welcome to suggestions for there and Charleston...
First, a delicious, but not expensive place, to treat my family for dinner -- nothing too outrageous in terms of food, they are conservative eaters. Next, places to eat at while touring the city - especially for lunches. Lastly, places for the siblings to go out at night. Except for the kid in school, we are 20-to-30 somethings and looking for places with a bit of "nightlife". but not clubby.
Thank you so much for your help! I look forward to you suggestions!
First time DC visitor looking for recs
I am not looking for anything particular at all. Whenever people come to my area or travel somewhere I have been, I always recommend a few of my favorites. That's really all I am looking for.
Hope that helps!
First time DC visitor looking for recs
Hello DC Chowhound-ers,
I am visiting DC for long weekend in March and hoping to get recommendations of favorite or must-try restaurants, cafes, and bars. If there are specific dishes or drinks you can recommend - that would be great!
Thank you!
L'Espalier space?
That will not be a problem! Have you looked at their website - they have a great vegetarian tasting menu.
L'Espalier space?
I agree with Heathmb - the space really limited what they were able to do, in terms of service and food. And the specialiness of L'Espalier is in the food, service and atmosphere. It is created in large part by the staff, from the hosts to backwaiters and servers to linecooks. It is the kind of restaurant were people work for the passion of food. That feeling will travel to the Mandarian.
Someplace to host a Bridal Shower?
Neither L'Espalier or the Four Season are expensive for tea. Just looking online, the tea at L"Espalier is $27 per person, which most wouldn't classify as expensive for a bridal shower.
casual sweet 16
I went to tea and a show with a bunch of girlfriends for my 16th. My parents got us a limo and it was the most fun. If that interested you, I would receommend L'Espalier and the Four Seasons (especially L'Espalier as it is moving to the Mandarian). Although it might be fun to take them somewhere "trendy" and in that case almost anywhere in the South End - Toro, Gaslight, Stella. Tapas might be fun at Dali or Tapeo. Hope that helps!
Framingham, MA Help
I would say Blue Ginger in Wellesley, Sel de la Terre in the Natick Collection, or the Coach Grill in Wayland. All nice and yummy restaurants that any person would (or at least should) appreciate a gift certificate to.
