Two New Boards: Vegetarian & Vegan and Special Diets
Not a bad idea. How about something similar for the Special Diets board? Here's a good start:

Stuck "New" flag
I just discovered New flags next to some threads in my Saved Topics, which then open fully expanded. However, none of these topics have recent posts; one, in fact, has had no posts since 2006.
I hope this helps.
Is the name " Site Talk" too confusing to new posters?
Didn't Site Talk used to appear under its own sub-heading, Site-Related Issues (or something like that), rather than Topical?
Vegetarian and B12
I'm not a vegetarian, but I also care about B-12. There's some evidence that the best-absorbed kind is methylcobalamin, usually taken as a sublingual lozenge or tablet. Sublinguals don't come in a capsule.
You can try searching some of the popular vitamin-store web sites for B-12 and then narrowing down your search. Three sites that I find reliable are www.vitaminshoppe.com, www.vitacost.com, and www.swansonvitamins.com. After an initial search on Vitacost or Swanson for B12 (or B12 sublingual, or methylcobalamin), you'll see a panel on the left side of the screen with options for manufacturer, form, dosage, and special needs--including vegetarian. When you click the link for a specific product, you'll see a complete list of all of its ingredients, in case there's anything else you need to avoid.

A little strange, no? This feature worked properly from the day the lights were turned on, and then suddenly it went south?
While you're working on this, can you clean up the formatting so that the vertical spacing between mulitple lines of the same link is smaller than the spacing between different links? For example, "New York State (exc New York City)" runs across multiple lines, and it looks like multiple links because the vertical spacing of those multiple lines is the same as the vertical spacing between it and the links preceding (Outer Boroughs) and following (The Best) it.
Also, for some reason, Site Talk was moved under the Topical header, but the Site Related (or whatever its exact name) header remained, with no boards under it.
Thanks.
New Posts feature non functioning
I use only Hot Posts ("unread posts") to read CH, quickly reviewing the handful of boards of interest to me and reading only the posts of interest. I rarely visit any of those boards directly, so I don't know whether posts marked as read in Hot Posts appear unread directly in those boards. if they do, that's a bug, so far as I'm concerned. The ability to dismiss (mark as read) in bulk posts that don't interest me is key, rather than having to open each one in order to remove the "read" flag.
A useful feature, to me, would be for the initial Hot Posts page to display not all new CH posts, but only those in the boards I've marked as Saved Boards. Intermingling threads from different boards might (or might not) be confusing after I've been away from CH for an extended period, but certaily not if I visit frequently enough for them to appear on just one or two pages. In any case, it would be a more interesting selection than the current unfiltered initial page.

Same here. In case the OP is unclear, it looks something like this, aligned along the left margin of the page, only with extra blank lines between entries:

Los

And a new problem too, at least for me. When I edited the above to correct a typo, all of the embedded carriage returns had disappeared, requiring that I reinsert them during editing.
New Posts feature non functioning
Open New Posts for, e.g., the Site Talk board: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/30/new_posts
Result: "There are no new posts."
Navigate directly to the Site Talk board: http://chowhound.chow.com/boards/30
Result: Lots of posts with a New flag, and lots of old posts, too.
Repeat for Manhattan, Outer Boroughs, New York State boards: Same result.
Log out / log in and try again: Same result.

I do not believe that any of the boards I checked, including this one, had 50 unread posts.
New Posts feature non functioning
Same problem here. The default page (new post for all of CH) shows posts, but the five individual boardsI check every day show no new posts, even though navigating to those boards directly shows posts with New flags.
Requesting separate boards for Vegan-Vegetarian and Allergic-Intolerant
If you go the way of separatism, I'd also like to see boards for Paleo and Low-Carb diets, which are equally valid lifestyle choices. Otherwise, they'd fit nicely into Alternate or Special diet boards.

Best time to attempt Laduree?
Two weeks ago on Thursday (I think) at around 4:30 pm, there was a two-person line.
Unread posts
A useful replacement for the unread page for the entire site would be a page displaying unread posts for the boards that the user has chosen for Show Saved Boards (up at the top of the page).
Unread posts
"After marking a post as read site returns to "All of chowhound" posts instead of just the empty topic that was just read. The old way helped me keep track of where I was on the site. Don't like the new way."
Agreed.
Is this changed behavior intentional?
"Connection has timed out" message
Not for me. Clicking http://www.chow.com/new_posts takes me to error page http://www.chow.com/503.html.
