Best Burger in Park slope?

I agree w/ you cjd260. i am drooling at the thought of that burger. it's the lardo butter that does it - keeps it moist and also adds a punch of flavor.

god damn it my keyboard is wet now!

Blood sausage in Sunset Park?

we've bought the home-made stuff at the essex street market - have yet to find it in brooklyn... but you can get the packaged morcilla (which works just fine in a pinch) at a bunch of places: blue apron in pk. slope and stinky brooklyn in carroll gardens. good luck!

Can I afford to eat in Park Slope / Prospect Heights?

Yes, you totally can eat well and cheap(er) than in manhattan. you just have to know where to go. there are great ideas already floating around here (amorina, bonnies, city sub, song) but here's a few of my faves: 1) mee thai (esp. their calamari salad) 2)beet thai (crispy duck w/ pancakes/brandy ginger beef, lots of others) 3) Kombit (griot and that damn rice... whoa, so good) 4) Pepper Mill Deli on 7th ave @ 11th st - Mexican Sandwiches 5) los pollitos - best deal: whole chicken w/ side of rice, beans and tostones w/ garlic sauce... you'll eat 4 meals w/ this 6) grandma pie from albanese pizza (thin crust...buttery, awesome sauce). 7) the chuletas at bogota - used to be $12 now $15, but still tasty and filling - ask for extra sauce. 8) el viejo yayo (lots) 9) Elora's(lots here, but the guisada, pernil and tacos al carbon are fab and cheap).

there are gems, but it does take trying and finding places that fit you. also, sometimes we frequent a place for one dish only that we love that's under $15. we are all about value and deliciousness when we eat. as great as stone park, al di la and applewood is, they are for special occasions in my world. look around and you will find what you're looking for - promise!

good luck and happy eating.

even though the reviews have always been mixed for this place, I still recreate their pulpo in a black olive sauce at home!! NOt sure if it's still on the menu, but it was fab-u-lous.

Barrio Park Slope

I'm also interested in the atmosphere of the joint...

Fratelli Ravioli on Court Street - when did it close?

interesting... their stuff used to be sold at key foods in pk. slope. i'll have to look to see if it's still there anymore. sad, sad, sad. amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com

5th Ave Park Slope Italian

Personally, if you're looking for Italian-American food (or traditional Italian food in America) I'd go for Mulino. La Villa is fine, but I think it's ambiance sucks and unless you're bringing your under 4 year old kids, don't even attempt to go anytime before 7.30 or 8PM. Aunt Suzies is super cheap, but you get what you pay for. Peperoncino is totally overpriced. Go only for a pizza. Al di La is really delish (obviously), but I understand what you are saying about "causal". I'd say Mulino is your best bet. We haven't gone back to Mangia since my husband had a major stomach issue the day after we ate there. amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com

Anniversary Dinner

I second (or third?) Tempo. What about Osteria Convivium? Verrrry romantic. Rosewater too is pretty romantic. Good luck! - amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com

Favorite place to go for drinks and food in Park Slope?

Flatbush Farm is chill enough that you can hear each other talk and they have a decent wine list by the glass and a good drink menu - plus low-lighting. They have a bar menu if you are comfy enough sitting in that area that you don't feel like moving. Frannys, well, I'm not a big fan... plus it's not big enough for you to hang out at the bar if that's what you're craving. I've never been to Alchemy but have heard great things. It's a gastro-pub and seems very inviting and cozy. Tempo has a nice bar and excellent food too. Amy @ http//www.neverfull.wordpress.com

Applewood, RoseWater, Stone Park Cafe, or Convivium?

No one thinks Convivium Osteria? Crazy! I guess it depends on what you are looking for - the menu, the ambience, the hipness/trendiness? Rosewater is nice, small, cozy and romantic, but the menu is very small and changes every day depending on what's available. I can't comment on Applewood, but everyone else here did - it's obviously good and a hot place to eat at. Convivium is right up the street from where I live and I've longed to go back since the first time I've eaten there. It's so romantic and the food was delicious when I went. You feel like you are somewhere else - not on 5th Ave in Brooklyn. Never been to Stone Park. But I vote for Convivium! Amy @ http://www.neverfull.wordpress.com

Worst grocery store in Park Slope

I can't believe everyone here loves Key Foods over Steve's. There's no comparison in my mind. I actually make the trek to Steve's b/c I can not stand how much more Key Food charges for basic stuff. Not to mention the price hikes since their unnecessary 'make over'. They don't have a fish department and the meats available suck. Their international food section blows. And don't even get me started about how you are forced to buy 5 zucchini's because all their veggies are saran-wrapped and nothing is loose... it makes me nuts. The only thing I like about it now is the self-checkout they put in. But, I'd wait in line at Steve's anyday over flying thru check-out at Key Foods (and it's only a block from my apt!). amy @ http://www.neverfull.wordpress.com

Best tex-mex in nyc?

I like Baby Bo's on 2nd ave/34th st. It's good, fun, cozy and pretty delicious. amy @ http://www.neverfull.wordpress.com

Anyone been to the restaurant Jane in the village?

I completely agree with everything said here - it's consistently good, not spectacular, and their service isn't sometimes on par. Their brunch was great (very good bloody mary's and other brunch cocktails) and I've had lunch their which was delicious and I felt sufficient full for the price. I'd recommend it - depending on what you're looking for. amy @ http://www.neverfull.wordpress.com

Mexican in Brooklyn

Los Pollitos... it's so cheap and (I think) it's good. Try the sopes - cheap, plentiful and delicious. Also the tostones with the creamy garlic sauce on the side. A winner every time. amy @ http://www.neverfull.wordpress.com

Burrata in Brooklyn?

Burrata absolutely lives up to the hype.I sat on a bench in Bologna with a plastic knife, no napkins, a stick of bread and hungry as f&*k and tore into that baby while all the juices ran down my face. Halfway thru it, I thought I was going to vomit, but in a good way. When I first had it in Italy 2 years ago, I didn't know what I was eating, I thought it was just the most delicious ball of mozzarella I had ever eaten. I finally realized it was called Burrata and I started my quest to find some in the city. Not until recently (prob. the last 8-12 months) have I finally seen it creeping up all over... nothing like trendy food. I know that Bedford Cheese shop sometimes has it. Murrays only sometimes has it and Union Market does too. I asked the cheese guy there when the shipment came in and I was told on Wednesdays. REMEMBER - DO NOT EAT BURRATA PAST 2 or 3 DAYS AFTER IT"S BEEN MADE. It really is best eaten fresh. If it looks a bit older or too soggy or not milky white, just don't bother spending the $$ on it. Ask when the shipment will be in and be there to pick it up and eat it that moment/day. You'll be in for a real, rich, delicious treat. Enjoy! Amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com

Dinner for 4 in Soho, Tribeca or Village Saturday night...

Alfama (Portuguese) - nice wine list, decent prices, delicious food and not very loud. I also love Malatesta - super cheap and delish, but I don't think they take reservations and it could get noisy. Amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com

Best Korean place for a group?

We just tried a newish place called Madangsui in K-town. It was excellent. They give you about 10 banchan and they have grills built into the table for that 'fun' korean bbq experience. The food was excellent. We also like Gahm Mi Oak in K-town, but I think we'll be back to Madangsui first. Good luck and happy eating. Amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com

Tapas below 23rd

I've gotta be honest, I'm really picky about my tapas. I think too many places try to f&*K with the originals. Sometimes I just want traditional tapas - nothing fancy, nothing 'reinvented'. My favorite places for this has been, as mentioned earlier, La Paella and a very small place I tried recently, Las Ramblas on Bleeker. Give 'em a try for traditional tapas. amy @ http://www.weareneverfull.com
