Any thing like the original in the city any more? Steak with spaghetti on the side. Sourdough with chunky salsa. There is just something very comforting about a dinner like this that has been a favorite for many decades for me.
North Beach Progressive Dinner Ideas...
My wife and I have always enjoyed taking about four plus hours to wander North Beach and dine at five or six different spots when we come to town. It has never been a problem before as we both love Italian food but she has been vegan (Engine 2 w/no oils, salt, etc.) for the past seven months and it is treating her so well that I know that this is a permanent change. Can anyone give me some help on what spots might serve our needs for my Italian craving and her vegatable cravings. We are both getting up there and have been coming to the city since the seventies usually at least once per year. I was born there but raised in Santa Barbara as was she. It has been three years since we have been able to visit so not up to speed on what might be some of the newer places.
Any good recommendations for Barstow???
The Popeye's is the best Popeye's I have eaten at outside of New Orleans.
Any good recommendations for Barstow???
If you properly plan your trip and your fueling requirements you will not even have to get off of the freeway in Barstow.
Morro Bay Visit - Dinner Ideas?
I have not been in a long time. He passed away last year and the website is still active and seemingly up to date. Reviews from this year that can be found still seem to speak quite highly of it as far as I can tell.
If you go please share your experience.
Morro Bay Visit - Dinner Ideas?
Hoppe's Garden Bistro in Cayucos, just North of Morro Bay. Highly recommend the Abalone. You can Google it and also find reviews here on chowhound and elsewhere online. It is a very nice experience.
Road Trip From TX to CA...Where/What to Eat.
Oh, and also if it is near lunch or dinner stop at Domingo's 40 miles west of Barstow in a little community called Boron. Suprisingly good Mexican food in a very out of the way location. Again, not far off the road on the 58 between Barstow and Mojave
Road Trip From TX to CA...Where/What to Eat.
Roughly 75 miles west of Flagstaff you will see an exit for Seligman. Take it and you will then be on the old route 66 through the town of Seligman. It is worth the short detour, and it really is quite short, and if it is lunch time you can get a tasty burger and some excellent entertainment at the Snow Cap. You can Google Seligman and see some pictures of the town. It is a fun little escape from a rather boring stretch of freeway. I would highly recommend it.
Guilty Breakfast Pleasures
Spicy patty sausage at the Black Bear Diner, cinnamon rolls at the Farmhouse, cheesy eggs at Waffle House, French Toast at Cracker Barrel, 49er’s at The Original Pancake House, Percival’s “Hot” Pad at TC Eggington’s.
What are some of your guilty pleasures and favorite sins for Breakfast? Preferably Scottsdale or the East Valley.
Gourmet or decidedly un-gourmet are fine.

Best steakhouse in Phoenix
I know what you mean. I had a Lynx but I ruined it when a friend lied to me. He said I needed to cook that big batch of Kiviak and when it burst all I could do was throw the grill away. My wife made be get a Summit and made me promise to behave going forward.

I think it is more a testament to the consistancy of the meat itself. I believe that no matter how talented the person in charge of buying the meat for the restaurant that one simply cannot tell at times how good the purchase will be. I have gone to AJs and hand selected absolutely beautiful, perfeclty marbled prime ribeyes, brought them home and grilled them to a perfect medium rare only to be less than impressed with either the flavor or the moistness of the meat. On the other hand I have purchased a lovely looking ribeye at Basha's for 4.99/lb and seasoned it and cooked it the same way and been blown away by everything about the steaks flavor, moistness and consistency.
I think a lot of people might form an opinion regarding a particular restaurant after one visit and if that visit does not live up to expectations and preconceived notions it simply gets internally rated as a poor choice and never visited again. How many times have you been enjoying a fantastic meal at a nice establishment only to notice a table across the room where the people are obviously not having a meal to remember. Just too many variables to recomend one particular place as the best when on any given night most any of them might serve you what you feel is the perfect meal.

I'm shocked that no one has mentioned Golden Corral yet. Oh how I crave the chocolate pudding after a fine custom grilled sirloin.

Santa Fe:Plaza Cafe Update
Thank you very much. That is the kind of first hand observation I was hoping for. Guess I will stop hoping and accept it for what it is. Won't dampen my enthusiasm as our trip approaches as there is far too much to enjoy in Santa Fe for one restaurant to spoil a trip there in the slightest.
Santa Fe:Plaza Cafe Update
Thank you. I knew about their other location but since we are staying within walking distance of the Plaza location it would have been a great start to the day without a lot of effort. I imagine, since it sounds like a lot of work, that if it isn’t well underway by now it is not likely to be finished that soon. Guess I will just keep hoping.

Any date been sent for reopening? Planning on being in town for Thanksgiving and love going there for breakfast.
Chef Curtiss leaves Noca
An interesting interpretation of my comment. What I am suggesting is that a less than committed chef perhaps is not as effective as a more committed one.
Chef Curtiss leaves Noca
Probably has something to do with the rather uneven reviews of the restaurant of late.
AZUL - La Jolla
Is this where the Chart House used to be or, if not, what occupies that location now. I am assuming it has not been torn down.

Best steak and wine with ambiance
I really have to take issue with recommending Flemings. Since Outback purchased the chain years ago it has gone downhill dramatically. I have eaten at the Ahwatukee location, Tucson Foothills and the original on Scottsdale Road over the past few years. All of the meals were disapointing except for the original location at the Hilton on Scottsdale Road. I have simply stopped going there and much prefer some of the other choices mentioned. Yes they have a great wine list but most top end extablishments do as well.
My two cents would lean towards Donovan's, which by the way is a chain, or Capital Grill.
Five days in Yuma for business, where should be eat?
Wow, that brings back memories. We lived there from 1982 till we moved up to Flag in '95. Owned the Yuma Cabana for many years. Wife and I loved La Fonda and now that you are mentioning the enchiladas that sounds just like I remember them being. The opaque green sauce had a slight tanginess to it and the grilled chicken in them was very tasty. We found the restaurant to be one of our favorites primarily for the reasons you mention just now. Coming down to attend the grandaughter's recital this weekend so one night will have to be El Charro and one night will be La Fonda. Always enjoy you standing up for Yuma here on the board. I find your comments to be both informative and insightful when someone inquires as to where to eat in the town. I find most people who do not live there have a pretty poor impression of Yuma but it definitely has its good points as well.

So Ed, is La Fonda still good? Moved away from there in 95 but come back occasionaly to visit the kids. Always need to go to El Charro for the sour cream enchiladas/red sauce or the loaded machaca chimi but haven't gone into La Fonda for awhile. Used to love their Suiza Enchiladas years ago.

Halfway through :o(
If I was driving up to Texaz I would definitely go the extra two blocks and visit the Rokerij instead. If the regular menu is a bit too much for the budget go for the daily happy hour from 3:00 to 6:00 for fantastic small plates.
