Dinosaur BBQ coming to Newark

wow, this is great! I don't usually post here, but this kicked me out of lurking mode :)

I laughed when I read about difficulty getting reservations, never made reservations at the location in Syracuse! :)

can't wait 'til it opens, love the atmosphere and the food!

Zoe's Vintage Kitchen - Atlantic Highlands

we had the same problem when we went to Zoe's last year...terrible service, I felt like we were completely inconveniencing the teenage waitresses just by being there...

based on the other posts though we will give it another try, the decor was very cute

thanks for the feedback folks, we are definitely going to give it a second chance, I loved the atmosphere :)

I was so sad that Bobo's 33 closed! We drove up there for our anniversary and found it turned into a sports bar (not so romantic!)

zoe's vintage kitchen - atlantic highlands

hi all

I thought there was a post about Zoe's Vintage Kitchen in Atlantic Highlands somewhere, but now I can't find it.

We went to breakfast at Zoe's last weekend (my husband, 17 month old son and I). I was so disappointed!

The decor was just adorable, very well done, kitchy without being cluttered or over the top. Unfortunately that's the only nice thing I can say.

There were two young women waitresses, and I didn't see either of them smile the entire time we were there. I watched them hand-press orange juice orange after orange, they looked like they were going to keel over from boredom.

Half of our food was cold and it took a long time to come out (though with a 17 month old in attendance, "a long time" is relative!). All I know is that the people who came in after us got served before us, and that's always frustrating.

The hash browns had absolutely no spices...they tasted like plain chopped up potatoes.

As I walked out, I peeked in the kitchen, and it looked like there wasn't anybody over the age of 18 working there...I wondered if the owners were away or something?

Anyone else have a better experience? I really hope so, we want to go back because the place is so darn cute and we love going out to breakfast.

Thoughts?

Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.

loved it, two thumbs up!

And I will be returning once I start eating dairy again to get some of the quiche or mac 'n cheese!!

Very nice staff, too.

Front St Trattoria in Red Bank

we go the Front St Trattoria in Red Bank occasionally. The owner has been over the top nice to us every time we go there.

The food is a bit hit or miss I think, but I really like the menu, they have some creative dishes (a few using delicious artichoke hearts). I'm also told that they will substitute soy cheese on pizzas if people are dairy-free.

The Flakey Tart - OMG-My Review!

I also found the Flaky Tart through Chowhound just last week. I drove right up there after calling and asking them to put aside a couple chocolate croissants for me! The bakery is beautiful, and the croissants were delicious. I also got DH a raspberry crumb cake thingy and he said it was yummy, too.

I'm so happy I found you Flaky Tart!!

Flakey Tart - Atlantic Highlands.

whoo hoo! I just found this post, called the Flaky Tart, and they've put aside a couple pain au chocolat for me!!!

I'm so excited! The chocolate croissants at Panera have a honey glaze on them and that just makes me mad!!!! Wazzap with that??

I'm too excited, have to leave and go to AH now...

good bread bakery in central NJ (monmouth cty)

thanks everyone for your suggestions!

I think I'm looking for the whole atmosphere thing, in addition to the quality of the bread itself...It was that darn show, made me long for a small town bakery!

I used to work at Bovellas Pastry Shoppe in Westfield, maybe I'm just harking back to the good old days (though they don't bake their own bread either! :)

that's my feeling exactly, the bread is OK but not really good bakery fresh quality :) It is a nice place to meet with friends for coffee (and a delicious cookie!) though

Hi all-

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good old school bakery that bakes delicious bread (round breads, french bread etc.). I'm hoping to find an independently owned, non-chain or grocery store bakery. Do they exist anymore??

I watched a show about bread yesterday and they had a story about the Crown Point Bakery in Crown Point, NY http://www.crownpointbread.net/main.php. That's what inspired my new quest for delicious bread :

)

The closer to Red Bank, the better, but I'd be up for a drive too.
