Best Steak Tartare

Third! for the Blue Ribbon Steak tartare. No egg, but meat quality has always been excellent. And the homemade chips are perfect to eat it with. A tall cold beer and the steak tartare there makes my mouth water instantly.

Is BBQ in NYC hopeless? How is BLUE SMOKE?

Blue smoke is quite disappointing.

Le Petit Prince- New Bakery in Astoria

Seems like it's closed for good. Saw a demo crew and the awning is down :-(.

So many people in the nabe were pulling for it too.

Shack Shack Review - Finally (Long)

Honestly, the line is not that bad at off peak hours. If you show up 12-2 on a weekend or 3-5pm on a weekday you won't have to wait long at all.

Bang for the buck lunch spots

See if you can find a halal cart around. 4-5 bucks for a large heaping of basmati rice, lamb bits, hot and white sauce all in a self-contained..err container. Delicious and super filling.

Bang for the buck lunch spots

I second the lamb chops. So flavorful and tender. I crave it sometimes.

Lovely day today - where is everyone going?

What are some of the best places to eat today with outdoor seating?

Restaurant with Hudson river views

What are some good restaurants with views of the water?
I recall a restaurant on the Brooklyn side but the name eludes me. Any and all ideas welcome.

Vegetarian in NYC

Tabla has a vegetarian tasting menu that was absolutely delicious. They have varying course numbers, but I think I went with 10. I left in a daze.

Steakhouse advice

Kobe House!! (Just kidding)

Actually, of the new steakhouses, Porter House in the time warner center is actually quite good and has a very nice "big city" sleek atmosphere to it.

For the old school steakhouse style, can't go wrong with Lugers. If you can't get in, go to Sparks.

Good eats in Chinatown...that aren't Chinese

Will be heading down there later today for some business but I'm drawing a total blank as to where to go for dinner afterwards. I'm burned out on Chinese/Asian flavors lately so any suggestions would be appreciated.

airline food: your nominations for best in first or business class on any carrier USA or Foreign

I very recently enjoyed some lovely meals on Korean Air (JFK - Shanghai, Business Class). Full china, full bar. First course, smoked salmon with endive and some sort of dill/caper sauce. Second course, bowl of very nice tasting bibimbop (with ramen supplement). Testing to see if this attach photo function works.

My experience as an Emeril Live audience member...

I would say it's worth it if you're a big fan of emeril. I don't know if the line will stretch outside, but if you get there reasonably early, I don't think you'll have to worry about waiting out in the cold. If you can take him or leave him, it's not worth a drive from Boston.
If you can stretch it out into a weekend away of fun in NYC, then go for it.

I can't believe someone resurrected this thread :-).

Vegetarian in NYC

The now closed UWS Zen Palate was quite good, but my vegetarian fiancee and I have been much less impressed by the Midtown and Union Sq. locations. I would say avoid Zen Palate as there are other, much better purely vegetarian restaurants. Counter, Heirloom, Hangawi come to mind.

What foods do restaurants most frequently mess up?

Totally. I find it very difficult to order pork (especially chops) at restaurants even if the menu description sounds appealing because I just have this feeling it will arrive dry and flavorless.

Best Panini - Astoria - Il Bambino

I went there tonight and was very happy that I did. We (my fiancee and I) had the roasted tomatoes with rosemary ricotta and an olive tapenade. She also had the fontina, mozarella and grana panini with truffle oil. I had the speck crostini with truffle egg salad and the prosciutto panini with sweet onion marmalade and grana. Everything was very tasty with flavor profiles that were right on the money. Definitely worth a visit if you're in Astoria.

Asiate - RW Review

I love Asiate's dining room. The view is simply to kill for. I had an above average meal about a year ago there, but haven't felt the compulsion to go back. I think this review is changing my mind!

"Gourmet" instant ramen - have you tried any?

The higher end ramen are delicious and adding combinations of various veggies/eggs/proteins make it a very respectable meal.
