90 year old birthday party: westside. Tasty. Quiet. Help!!

Thanks so much for the great ideas.
Here's a question:
Chateau Marmont vs. Casa del Mar (Catch) - unlike the other great places like Craft or Four Seasons, they both have a 'destination' feel about them (as does the Bel Air Hotel) - so they are high on the list.
So: Which has better food? Brunchy stuff...? Catch or Chateau Marmont?

There will be 12 of us.

I need something more elegant than Billingsley's, I think. Also, better food. She's more a Bel Air Hotel kind of gal, anyway!

Of the hotels on the Westside, which have the best food (I know, possibly a contradiction in terms!)

Thanks!

bizarre cheese-mouth reaction

For me, it's eggplant, tomatoes, cantaloupe and swiss cheese. They numb and yet sting the roof of my mouth.

What is it??!!

Help: need good croissants for a brunch but don't want to pay $2.50/each. Ideas?

West LA area preferred as I'll need to buy very early this Sunday AM.

I need around 25. Are Costco and Trader Joe's frozen my only options?

Please help!!

Hi Westsidegal,

Thanks for the info, but what restaurant does it pertain to?

Really? I didn't know any MdR places were in fact tasty. I thought it was all about the view, no? I'll look into it, thank you.

Any other thoughts?

The title says it all, Chowhounds.

Dinner, weekday, w/ my husband.

Okay, anniversary dinner, but we're not doing over-the-top, so, not Melisse, for instance.

Just want the food to taste good and don't want ear-splitting 'ambiance' - Upper West, for instance, was a PITA for making us wait 30 mins even w/ a reservation, on a school night, and was pretty noisy.

Oh: Not a big fan of tapas-style food, either. Does that rule out the new Cachette?

Any thoughts?

Thank you all, as ever.

Afternoon tea in Santa Monica? And kindly don't mention Tudor House, since...

Thanks, Yogachik. I love Jin, but I wonder if it's not too difficult for oogenarians and nonogenarians. All the tables are outside, in the sun... not really a cozy place. Know what I mean?

Their pastries are amazing, it's true. Just wondering if it is the best ambiance for us....

I'm looking for food that tastes good. So not Funnel Mill since they really have no food...

7 ladies, 1 year to 91 years old. Quiet. I'm thinking hotel, but which one? Or something on Montana or San Vicenta (sadly Chez Mimi closed)

Please help! To make matters worse, it needs to be on a Sunday.

Thank you all.

Good Russian food in LA?

I know there are not a lot of choices, but what have people had recently that's been good?

PS Balalaika not essential. Not at all.

Second your thought on the stress of eating at Huckleberry - loud, hard chairs, cold food. Not great..

Drive-thru or curb-side service in Santa Monica/West LA/Beverly Hills/We Ho/Culver City areas?

Thanks, all, for your great ideas. Re Gaby's ... how is their falafel?

(Off topic: Has anyone eaten at the new Sunnin? I did, once, and was SOOO disappointed in the falafel - NOT FRESH! How could they let that happen??)

New mom seeking to limit hauling carseat in and out...

Love the Baja Fresh on Sepulveda/Olympic which will bring my food out to me.

Please don't say anything else fast food (I realize Baja Fresh sort of falls into that category...)

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Help! Need place for mom's birthday lunch tomorrow - Westside-ish, great food, quiet, not insanely $$

Thanks, all. I think I'll look into Fraiche and Fig. Chez Mimi is perfect for atmosphere, but I agree the food's not quite inspired (plus it's my mother's go-to spot and I wanted something new...)

Help! Need place for mom's birthday lunch tomorrow - Westside-ish, great food, quiet, not insanely $$

I appreciate that. We may go there on our own, but if it rains tomorrow and we can't sit outside, it might be a bit much for a group, half of whom are in the elderly set (one is 90, one 86...). Even the hostess - when I asked her for a quiet table - said, 'have you BEEN to Spago before? It's not a quiet restaurant..."

Thanks - I'm not in love w/ Wilshire, either. Would you call Spago at lunch quiet? (Haven't been in eons...)

My elderly mother's birthday, so a quiet room, great food, and somewhat reasonable. I looked at Spago but their lunch prices aren't listed on the menu... Location: from SM to WeHo/Ho.

Please help!

Boy, do I remember those cookies! Wil Wrights, Beverly Hills. I actually grew up and never knew what that flavor was until someone told me: almond.

I MISS WIL WRIGHTS (and CC BROWN'S...)

Thanks for the recipes!

If you moved to the Palos Verdes area, where would you end up eating?

I have to say, you guys are brilliant. Thanks for the wonderful suggestions and, of course, the candor. It's what I suspected, really. By the way, it sounds as though there're more than a few people on here who, together, could and maybe should create a darned good restaurant in PV.

I have the name already: Oasis.

Interesting restaurants, anyone? There must be foodies there, no?

And, for real experts, where would you end up hanging out and having a coffee if you lived on the peninsula? (Is there a non-chain cafe that encourages reading there?) Must you go off the peninsula for a real meal / real coffee and if so, how far?

Please help... (I can reciprocate in the West LA/SM area, but for PV, I'm stumped.)
