I NEED to eat REAL BBQ in South Florida. Where do I go?
And yet coal pizza joints can blow all the coal fired soot they want. BBQ depends on it...pizza does not. Shorty's is looking for unincorporated Boca to expand in. I wonder how many have decided this would be a problem for them. Could this be why Smokehouse in Boca relocated or was it lease prices?

That's some good info...I have yet to find good Jamaican nearby.

WPB Clematis, make way for a new seafood chain. The menu has a lot of fried seafood on it.

SW corner facing Dixie or Southern? This sounds like the old C&C BBQ location from years past if facing Southern. Their Facebook page needs updating.
Yardhouse - Coming to Mizner, Boca Raton - July 2012
Different locations or even different nights can have different results. The jambalaya cream type spicy sauce was very good but the crawfish were way overcooked and andouille sausage, chicken, and shrimp didn't add much. Heck, I posted how good my lunch was at Cod & Capers then someone posted how it was the worst fried shrimp they ever had and the conch fritters were conch-less...hehe. That's what's good about all of this, you can get a good average of the overall results.

PBG - I ventured back to their house specialty menu against my own advice and tried the jambalaya. It was ok but I doubt I would get it again. As I have said before, stick to the burgers or pizza. The pepper crusted gorgonzola, the pepper jack, or bbq bacon cheddar are all very good. They recently added tacos to the PGA menu and they all sound really good but are just average.
Grand Lakes Chinese in West Palm Beach
Mr. Zhang's is close to my house and is very good. Service is always good and they do a good job of checking up on you no matter how busy it is. I just wished they didn't offer shark fin soup.
Cod & Capers Seafood Market and Restaurant in North Palm Beach
Cod & Capers Seafood Market has their new restaurant open from 11 to 5 now Mon - Saturday. Their new location in Crystal Tree Plaza is real nice inside and the cafe like restaurant has both indoor and covered outdoor seating with full table service.
The menu has many seafood options (of course) but it is on the pricey side for lunch. They have the same menu throughout the day. The single crab cake app was perfect and costs $9. I had a blackened grouper sandwich with cole slaw for $13 and was one of the best I have had in the area. Fresh grouper filet not overly blackened, a nice big bun, leaf of romaine, thin sliced tomato, red onion, and some lemony tartar sauce made it just right.
The restaurant and store are possibly going to be staying open until 8pm starting in the middle of July the waitress told me. Along with the fresh seafood of any kind you want, the market also has some produce and quite a few marinades, sauces, seasonings, panko, and even some prepare yourself sides like boxes of cous cous and quinoa. This is the finest seafood market in the area.

Grand Lakes Chinese in West Palm Beach
Has anyone been to Grand Lakes recently? The place was dead except for us and one other table at 6pm on Friday night. More people came in later but that only added 3 more tables. I was surprised at the lack of customers.
I have read about people complaining about their rude service on other boards. On my last 2 visits, I have experienced this as well. Borderline rudeness and very unfriendly behavior is what I have seen here. The waitstaff acts like you are interfering with their free time. Most places will box up your food for you but our grumpy young waitress just dumped off 2 boxes and a bag.
The food is usually good and they do have a dim sum and authentic Chinese menu to order from. But my kung pao shrimp was bland as can be last night. I'd like to hear what anyone else has experienced from Grand Lakes. No food is worth feeling unwanted at any restaurant.
Agliolio's in Wellington
I am looking for some options in the area and this sounds good. What about Pangea Bistro...have you been there? Of course, I always have Grand Lakes and Taste of India to choose from as well.
Coolinary Cafe in Jupiter
With dessert, they make a pretty good espresso if that is your thing. They don't do drip coffee but do a french press if regular coffee is your preference. They buy from a local roaster in Tequesta called Oceana Coffee. If they have the crabcake appetizer special, try it out. I have yet to try that burger.

McCray's BBQ Mangonia Park 45th St. location is closing for good on Sunday. They have not met the demands by the city to build a restaurant that complies to it's ordinance. It was basically a trailer on a lot.
However, they have a location in the very old Sub King in Riviera Beach on US-1

Creative but not excessive $ in West Palm/North Palm?

Creative but not excessive $ in West Palm/North Palm?
Entre Nous is good and I spent my birthday there 3 years ago http://www.entrenousbistro.com/
Also in that same area is the Pelican Cafe in a house/patio type atmosphere that is pretty cool. http://www.thepelicancafe.com
Pita Grille would also work http://thepitagrille.com/
The local sourced place (farm to table concept) would probably be Coolinary Cafe in PBG on Donald Ross Rd. Take a look at their menu online and here is the thread: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/843697
For a creative and unique menu I would go for Leftover's Cafe if seafood is your thing. The Reef Grill would be another option in that same realm and both are causal places if that is OK.
All of these places are in the $25 to $30 entree range except for Coolinary which is $20 on average for entrees. Almost all of these places are smaller, locally owned, and not your ordinary run of the mill menus and atmosphere. Reef Grill's atmosphere is the only one that is basic.

That motel location is a guaranteed resto killer. I didn't even get a chance to try it.
Awesome ribs?? Anywhere near the Miami-ish area
To be honest, I don't know of any place that has 'awesome' smoked ribs in south Florida. But if you are willing to sacrifice indoor dining, Porky and Beth's in Boynton Beach at Bednar's Farmer's market is worth a stop off of the turnpike. It is a bbq truck where you order at the window and has outdoor tables under cover. 0nly open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 until 5 or 6 p.m. This place or Sparky's in Miami are your best bets.

Sparky's is a good and unique BBQ joint in that his sauces have a tropical base. This thread has some good info:

Delray Affair Weekend - BBQ, Conch, Traffic Abundant!
We went to City Oyster. The lobster roll was pretty good there and the bar menu for lunch is kind of limited.

Thanks...I have read about La Camaronera and Garcias's so I know what to expect going in.

Nobody has any close to the park recs? In the park: ceviche at Don Camaron's is good and costs $10 for a smaller cup size. The roast pork sandwich $7 at Papo Llega Y Pon was very good and the tamale $6 was good too but more meat than masa inside would be nice.
The 3 places mentioned above in my post are in section 28 (left field) and not in the circular food court that has a field view. You walk through an area where the Taste of Miami sign is and the 3 are there. There are no tables but do have counter stands to eat your food.

Is Bamboo Fire still open? Their website has been shut down and I get no answer on either phone but did leave a message on Beverly's. I want to check it out on Sunday for lunch.
Food Challenge - Hot
Heat Seekers on Food Network did a Miami show and they visited 3 places.

Coolinary Cafe in Jupiter
Tim Lipman's new venture on Donald Ross at Military (Donald Ross Village) has been open for about 6 weeks now. He is the former head chef of Leftovers Cafe, my favorite resto. It is a farm to table concept and the menu is kind of interesting. Chicken and waffles, cinnamon chipotle rubbed duck, rock shrimp udon, pork shoulder, lamb sausage, a sirloin, and a few daily specials make up most of the entrees. It is kind of a small place with an open kitchen and has been packing them in on weekends.
We have tried the rock shrimp app (breaded and fried) and the crab cake appetizers. The crab cake app is a great starter but I wish the rock shrimp wasn't fried. The first week they were open, I tried the tandoori wahoo special but it was over cooked. Being the first weekend, I didn't hold it against them and wrote it off. Next visit I had the tandoori cobia and it was perfect. The tandoori wasn't overpowering like I thought and both were served over greens. I hear that the flatbread pizza app and brisket burgers are very good. The bread pudding dessert was just ok.
The portions for most all plates I have seen are somewhat on the small side. The prices aren't high but I just wished the portions were a bit bigger. I want to work my way around his menu to get a better sampling.

I am headed to a game this Saturday and will be hitting the Taste of Miami food court. Aside from the usual fare, there is Papo Llega Y Pon, Latin American Grill, and Don Camaron. I knew nothing about these places until I read this from the PB Post:

Jupiter to WPB - the hit list
We should start a Coolinary Cafe thread of it's own on this board
Hard Rock Casino Dining
Council Oaks is a high end steak house and expect to drop $60+ per person minimum or you can actually split a large steak and a side, as both are way too much for one person. Who can eat a 26oz ribeye? Apps are $20, sides are $10, and steaks are $40 to $70. The lobster mac n cheese side is good.
Hard Rock Cafe is *decent* but expect to wait for a table. You might get lucky and lounge around the bar and snag a seat there. I've eaten at Renegades BBQ and it is decent as well. Martarano's looks expensive. Blue Plate inside the casino packs in the older crowds. There's always Johnny Rockets or Hooter's as standbys.
The food served in the concessions area looks good, especially the Cuban one. I know their espresso and cafe con leche is very good. There are many options in that area. The pastry shop has decent cheesecake.

McCormick & Schmick's in City Place has gone bye bye. Add to that Chef John's in Jupiter.
