!00% agree with you Storm- don't be afraid to try some of their other baked goods on your next visit or an Assiago bagel that will put you over the moon!

A hidden gem

A hidden gem

The only thing we do more than work is eat out- so although not a self proclaimed gastronomique guru- I would say it would take a lot to dole out 5 stars. We have been visiting La Pergola frequently for three months- and I think in fairness it takes a series of visits to truly accuratly judge a new venue.
That said we give this establishment a complete thumbs up in every way- although we tend to eat at the bars so I hasten a comment re table service quality. The New York chef is really talented, and does a great job at melding flavors and textures- from the basics of a multi cheese platter appetizer to a clam soup that often appears on the special menu, the menu is really well thought our and offers a refreshing change to other shoreline dining establishments of which we are blessed to have so many great ones! A lot of unique offerings will keep you coming back- including a variety of imported pastas that I have yet to see on any of my other favorite NH County restaurant menus.

This restaurant is treated as a seperate entity from Tollis- its pizza house neighbor- to such an extent that you can not order a pizza when in La Pergola. I salute Anthony for sticking to this concept and strongly recommend you try this hidden gem soon- they serve dinner only except Sunday brunch which is an excellent value also

Lino's Market (Durham, CT): SFOGLIATELLE!

Linos is awesome- but do not go without getting one of their homemade peanut butter cups in the front case!

HELP! Need a REAL Italian place in New Haven for this weekend.

I think Consiglios is average- Lorenzos great for a bar to eat pizza at and watch the game- I am still standing by Anastasios- such a hidden gem- one of the best eggplant parms I have ever had. Definetly agree re Adriana's but it will be pricier- go there and you will have the best sauteed veal ever- try the John Dory too (ask for it they always have it but it may not be listed as a special)- it is ITALIAN (not Chilean) sea bass brought in from NY- so tender and fresh you will not even know it is fish!

Seeking nice non-Casino restaurant within 20 miles of Norwich

I am tired just thinking of it..... in that case I agree with the Mystic suggestions

Seeking nice non-Casino restaurant within 20 miles of Norwich

First of all can I join you guys lol? More importantly 20 miles which direction?

Cafe Choklad, Providence

Was there last week- GREAT chocolate chip combo cookies- also when you're there pick up a box or two of the chocolate covered popcorn they sell- they don't make it but it is money!

HELP! Need a REAL Italian place in New Haven for this weekend.

Anastasios on Wooster is just what you described- great food, reasonable, their menu is viewable on line

RI- suggestions for place accommodate 70

Venice Restaurant in Westerly- excellent!

New Italian Steak House In Greenwich Ct.

Check Yelp and this board- reviews were mixed- my wife and I did Greenwich this past weekend- clearly a reasonable value/ good quality restaurant deprived town! Had dinner at Jean Louis- very good but atmosphere so so and to me at those prices there should be nary a chink in the armour. Had apps at a portuguese spot downtown and at Barcelona which unfortunatly were the highlights since we live in the New Haven area and can have either anytime. Stayed at Delamar Hotel- restaurant good for apps and breakfast but again hard to compare to quality/value found here at home.

new haven: sunday breakfast and coffee shop to work at

A fair hike but worth it- Lena's Cafe on Whalley Ave in Westville

Newport Dinner: Black Pearl, Mooring or the Pier?

Mooring hands down

North Haven-Wallingford-Meriden axis of eats

I would second Michaels Trattoria, Bellinis 2 Broadway in North Haven good also

New Haven Lunch Spots

Prime 16- great burgers but nice inside- 172 Temple St. Temple Grille- assorted menu, long standing favorite 152 Temple Street. Finally Kudeta- excellent asian fusion and atmosphere- quieter than the other 2, 27 Temple Street

Best Doughnuts in CT?

Flanders Bake Shop- exit 74 East Lyme- the best in CT bar none

Best Brunch in New Haven / Branford Area??

Best really is Saybrook Pt Inn- a little pricey but well worth it

Augis's Restaurant, Branford,CT

Augis is very, very good- and I know Branford, EH, NH are restaurants VERY well. Opened with a poor menu and have since made changes. Combination of flavors from salads to entrees is outstanding- prices are reasonable- try it now before summer because they will be packed

CT Shoreline Pig Roasters

Any suggestions for good pig roasters- needed in Central Ct shorline area Labor Day weekend!

Maine roadtrip review

Spent last week in Maine and would offer the following reviews:

Portland:
1. Duckfat is indeed the best, and even if Portland is not your final destination, the short 10 minute diversion off 295 is well worth it. The frys and gravy and truffle catsup are everything you read about on these boards and more. The toast and jam is this amazing melt in your mouth toasted local brioche confection- worth the stop by itself.

2. Two Fat Cats Bakery across the street offers the best buttercreme frosting I have ever had. Choc cupcakes awesome, vanilla cupcakes dry. Much better whoopie pies from LaBadies in Lewiston- choc chip cookies average.

So. Portland:
1. Many rants an raves about Red's strawberry ice cream on CH- have to admit I was really unimpressed and would not bother going again.

Wiscasset:
1. The lobster roll debate rages on because we had both Red's and Sea Basket and both have their merits. Sea Basket roll had little mayo and pleanty of lobster- balance of the menu looked good, no "downtown" traffice, no wait, and the place was spotless.

Reds offered more meat. great value at $14.50, but the order and pick up window are one in the same, and to label the system as a "cluster" would be an understatement. We were #12 in line and waited 45 minutes! You will get literraly lobster only on the toasted roll, and butter and/or mayo on the side per your request- an awkward presentation but again a good value.

THE MUST CH stop in Wiscasset is TREATS- went twice- each time better- must have mixed berry pies, chocalate chip cookies, pizza, and peanut butter cups!

Boothbay- possibly our 10th year-
1. Lobster pie and great cocktails- Kahlers- always cheap and great
2. Lobster- Bootbay Lobster Formerly Lobsterman's co-op- maybe not the cheapest but the lobsters, steamers, burgera and cold draft beer are the best in BBay
3.Fun, different the Thistle
4. Won't return- 93 Townsend an overpriced disaster
5. Gourmet store - Vintage House
6. Best lobster meat to go- Atlantic Edge Lobster- a "steal" at $35/lb

New restaurant in Branford, CT

Dan- tried Brunellos last week. In terms of decor appears as a redone Tenderloin but very nice. I always find it a bit loud and the waiters run around like nuts so as you know always request to be seated as far from the kitchen as possible.

The menu was fine with a number of Goodfella's New Haven (same owner) type items on it. Cocktails $8.00 and the house salad average- my wife's medium well filet $36.00 came out rare- sent it back came out medium rare- said I wanted a discount and they comped her meal. My pasta dish was fairly good- desserts were excellent. Overall I'd give it a 7, but being so expensive and with so many other good area options I would not hurry back.

fried seafood in BoothBay Harbor??

Scuba- we will be in BB next week- would you mind giving a synopsis of your food experiences after your trip? Agree w/ the other fried fish reccommendations- always good at Kahlersin BB too!

Can't wait for that lobster mac and cheese at 93 Townsend.

Duckfat french fries

The only thing that can improve on DF is getting THE MOST MOIST cupkakes from accross the street at Fat Cats Bakery!

Lobster by mail

Lobsterman's co-op boothbay iv very good

Great Bakeries in New Haven where they make everthing on site

Just remembered great homemade chocalates/ cakes / and light ice cream- custard in Madison on Main St- on right just as you drive out of town heading east- old colonial (sorry I can't remember the name)- well worth the trip
