Pho-Licious - Delicious Pho in Arcadia

Have eaten here a couple of times and really enjoyed the filet mignon pho and the bbq pork pho. Love the sweetness of the broth. Look forward to trying the Kobe beef pho next time. However, was very disappointed with their egg rolls which have a "cardboard" taste IMO.

ISO Lemon Layer Cake

Amy's Pastry in Montebello has a good lemon layer cake.

Breakfast in Arcadia

Had some decent breakfast meals at Rod's Grill on Huntington Dr & Santa Anita Ave which is an old-school diner that opens at 6:00am.

Monrovia Has The Best Zen

Got to add my two cents worth. Zen Buffet in Monrovia and Osaka Seafood in Hacienda Heights are my two favorite Asian buffet places in the SGV with Yummy Yummy Seafood in El Monte being the worst! Went to Yummy Yummy on a recent Saturday when they first opened and more than half of the steam table items weren't available and even after I left 45 minutes later they were still missing many items! The food quality at Zen and Osaka was much better IMHO!

Best pho in Los Angeles proper

Thanks WildSwede! Tried the charbroiled pork pho at Pho 79 in Alhambra the other day and loved it! The pork just melted in your mouth and the broth was so delicious!

Orleans Corner, Arcadia... anyone been?

Add Gene's Grinders in Monrovia for great sandwiches and the best pastrami in the SGV IMHO.

Thanksgiving Day Meal in Pasadena Area?

Besides Black Angus and Claim Jumper, does anyone know who else will be serving a traditional Thanksgiving day meal or buffet in Pasadena or neighboring areas? Thanks in Advance!

Mamma's Brick Oven Pizza Opening Second Location in Pasadena

FYI: Mamma's Brick Oven Pizza in So Pasadena will open a second location in Pasadena in mid-September on the 300 block of Rosemead Blvd (a few blocks south of Colorado Blvd). This is my favorite NY style pizza in the San Gabriel Valley!

Heinz Kosher Dill Pickles Available in LA?

Anyone know if Heinz kosher dill pickles are available in the greater LA area, and if so, where?
The only ones I ever see at markets are the hamburger dill chips. Thanks!

Wang's Place in Monrovia for Sunday Champagne Brunch

Some of the items on the menu: Shrimp w/broccoli, chicken lomein, beef w/black bean sauce, scrambled eggs w/fresh tomatoes, diced chicken w/garlic, steamed mussels, paper wrapped chicken, egg rolls, pork fried rice, chocolate cake.

Wang's Place in Monrovia for Sunday Champagne Brunch

I tried the Sunday champagne brunch at Wang's Place in Monrovia for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it! They offer about 20 items including two kinds of soup and several desserts for $13.99 ($5.99 for children under 10). Their hot & sour soup is so good! They change a few of their buffet items each month, and if you're not a champagne drinker, you can get soft drinks instead. The Sunday brunch is from 11:00am to 2:00pm.

Grinder spots in Pasadena....

WildSwede,
Glad to hear that you enjoyed the pastrami at Gene's! It's my favorite place for pastrami in the SGV and I love many of their other grinders like the tuna which I get with sliced tomatoes - yum!

Good Vietnamese supermarkets in Alhambra/Rosemead/Monterey Park?

Rosemead Supermarket on Valley Blvd near Ivar Ave carries plenty of Vietnamese items according to my Vietnamese girlfriend.

Pizza in Montebello

Not Montebello, but close by, Pizza Kitchen in Rosemead makes decent thin crust pizza and the place has been around for over 30 years.

Steam Table Food To Go From Markets in Little Saigon?

My Vietnamese g/f enjoys the 26 item selection of steam table foods to go located inside the ABC Market In Westminster on Bolsa Ave. Does anyone know of other Vietnamese markets in Little Saigon that offer steam table foods to go? Thanks!

LA-style chili (Tommy's, Cupid's), in NY??

I have friends in NY who tell me there's nothing close to LA-style chili so unfortunately you're going to have to get your fill the next time you're in LA or order it online. I know your pain since I can't go a week without getting my chili fix from Tommy's, Carney's or Cupids.

Pizza in Arcadia/Monrovia?

Yep, just looking for your basic pie with a thin or medium crust, along with my favorite toppings - pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions!

Pizza in Arcadia/Monrovia?

Anyone know where I can find some good traditional pizza in the Arcadia/Monrovia areas. Thanks!

Grinder spots in Pasadena....

I called the Gene's Grinders in Monrovia and was informed that they are not affiliated with the Gene's Grinders on Arrow Hwy in Covina or the one in La Verne.

Grinder spots in Pasadena....

WildSwede,
I've been going to Gene's Grinders in Monrovia for over a decade and my favorite grinders are the meatball, tuna, grilled kielbasa, and of course their tasty pastrami which is my favorite in the SGV. Their pastrami is opposite of The Hat - not overly greasy, fatty or salty. They bake their own rolls for the grinders, but when they run out they close early which is normally around 3 to 4:00pm.
This place is truly a little gem that's been in Monrovia for many decades!

Egg Foo Yong

Not in the Buena Park area, but if you're ever in Montebello, my favorite egg foo young is at Canton City. I've been going here for decades to get my fill and they serve the patties with a smooth brown gravy. Check out the photo of the egg foo young on their website:

Soft Opening for NY Deli in Old Town Pasadena

FYI: I've been informed that the New York Deli in Old Town Pasadena has been doing a soft opening for several days now and their hours are 10am to 9pm and they are serving everything on their menu.

Chronis in ELA

Tried Chronis for the first time recently and was very disappointed with the chili dog. Although the dog meat was fine, the chili was very greasy and flavorless IMHO. The pastrami sandwich was also greasy and fatty. At least J&S saved the day for me on the way back home!

Consensus on Best Bagels; Who makes 'em?

Brooklyn Bagel Bakery.

Chili Dogs

HoundDogz,
I really like the chili dog at Rick's Drive-In in Rosemead, which is not related to the other Rick's outlets around the SGV. The chili is tasty and spicy and the dog meat is skinless and slit into four sections and grilled. I always order mine with extra onions that are thinly slithered and get the buns toasted. Be warned that this is a huge chili dog that's not easy to eat by hand.

Chili Dogs

J&S is truly a gem for burritos and the place has been open since 1967 with their busines hours still 24x7! Love their green chili burrito, combination burrito, soft tostada burrito, and of course their bean & cheese burrito!

Bell Beefers Available at Taco Bell in Covina

FYI for Bell Beefer fans: The Taco Bell in El Monte on Peck Road no longer makes Bell Beefers under their new ownership, but they did inform me that the Taco Bell in Covina on Citrus still makes them. I called that Covina Taco Bell to confirm this!

Bun Bo Hue Served with Banana Flower?

My fiance, who is originally from Vietnam, loves bun bo hue with banana flower and has found only one place in SoCal that offers banana flower and that is Bun Bo Hue So 1 in Westminster. Most places don't have it or go the cheaper route by serving red cabbage instead of banana flower which is a no-no for her since banana flower is a standard garnish served in Vietnam, along with sprouts and mint leaves. Does anyone know where we can find bun bo hue served with banana flower in SoCal? Thanks!
