Uneven Cooking Propane Oven

Just moved into a new house with a propane range/oven.
I seem to be having a strange problem in that whenever I cook any kind of substantial meat/roast it takes twice as long as it should.
(20 lb Thanksgiving turkey took 6 hours!)
No problems, though, cooking/baking any other foods. All my Christmas cookies came out fine...spot on as far as timing...if the recipe called for 10 minute baking time, they were baked perfectly in 10 minutes.
Same thing with other foods: casseroles, potatoes, etc. Everything except meats cook fine!
Yesterday I tried to cook a pork roast that should have taken 2 hours. After 1.5 hours the internal temperature of the roast was only about 120! I've tested with an oven thermometer and the temperature is accurate...even after an hour.
Is propane the problem? Although I am not at all new to cooking, I've never cooked with propane before. Isn't heat...heat? No matter the source?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Pierogies At The Shore?

Thanks for this info, fershore. I'm moving close to this church in a month so this will come in handy.

MGZ - I just got back from Mileto's with a 1/2 doz 'test' pierogies - two of which I just consumed. You were right - they're great. While in there, I commented on how good their homemade sauerkraut looked and wouldn't you know they slipped a nice-sized container into my bag! Class act!! By the way, the sauerkraut is amazing. Chunks of pork and mushrooms! Thanks again.

Pierogies At The Shore?

Thanks, MGZ. I'm 5 minutes from Mileto's so I'll go over and see what I see. Thanks, too, for the website - I couldn't find it!

Pierogies At The Shore?

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place in Ocean or Monmouth counties where good pierogies can be found? I searched before posting and I know that there are places outside of Mon/Oc counties but I don't have the time to travel any real distance as I'd like them for Easter. If anyone has a memory about buying pierogies from the kitchen of St. Vladimir's church in Elizabeth, NJ, you'll know that I'm talking about the real-deal kind, not the supermarket kind.

There's a Polish/Italian deli in Brielle - Mileto's? - as well as a Polish deli on Arnold Ave in Point Pleasant...anyone been?

My mom usually makes them but this year she decided not to because it's too much work for her and is now calling every couple of hours as she second guesses that decision and drops hints along the lines of "if only I had help making them..." complete with long, dramatic sigh.

Save me from a weekend of guilt-induced dough-rolling.

Hemingway's, Seaside Heights

Not reluctant...just putting it out there and also because I've only had appetizers in the couple of times I've been there. I was wanting to hear from people who have eaten dinner there and could comment on the big dinner-sized picture not the little appetizer-sized experience.
Also, I've never been able to follow usual procedures all that well. :-)

"gourmet" foods you liked as a kid

I raised my daughter to be a Food Adventurer and so, together, we were always trying new things. One of our favorites was chicken salad made with mayo, apples, raisins, pecans, and curry powder. We just loved it! In fact we loved it so much I sent her to school with a curry chicken salad sandwich one day. Curry turns mayonnaise green and, of course, it smells funky...especially to junior high school kids. My daughter came home that day reallllllly not happy with me for sending that sandwich in her lunch bag as she got to be "freak of the day" at school that day! One day she'll be in therapy talking about the trauma of what her mom used to make for her school lunches. :-)

Front St Smokehouse, Elizabeth, NJ

Definitely don't miss this place! Especially the chicken with raspberry jalapeno sauce.
Great place to hang out, chat with the owners, eat and drink well.

Motorcycling between Myrtle Beach & Charleston in a few months along Route 17...

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I appreciate them alot! :-)

good bread bakery in central NJ (monmouth cty)

Too weird! I just logged on to ask the very same question (just because I'm craving bread and don't feel like driving to north Jersey or Manhattan to get some) except that I'm in Point Pleasant and was going to ask it about Ocean County as well as Monmouth.
Are Atlanta Bread or Wegman's my only local options??
