Thanks for this info, fershore. I'm moving close to this church in a month so this will come in handy. MGZ - I just got back from Mileto's with a 1/2 doz 'test' pierogies - two of which I just consumed. You were right - they're great. While in there, I commented on how good their homemade sauerkraut looked and wouldn't you know they slipped a nice-sized container into my bag! Class act!! By the way, the sauerkraut is amazing. Chunks of pork and mushrooms! Thanks again. |

Thanks, MGZ. I'm 5 minutes from Mileto's so I'll go over and see what I see. Thanks, too, for the website - I couldn't find it! |

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place in Ocean or Monmouth counties where good pierogies can be found? I searched before posting and I know that there are places outside of Mon/Oc counties but I don't have the time to travel any real distance as I'd like them for Easter. If anyone has a memory about buying pierogies from the kitchen of St. Vladimir's church in Elizabeth, NJ, you'll know that I'm talking about the real-deal kind, not the supermarket kind. There's a Polish/Italian deli in Brielle - Mileto's? - as well as a Polish deli on Arnold Ave in Point Pleasant...anyone been? My mom usually makes them but this year she decided not to because it's too much work for her and is now calling every couple of hours as she second guesses that decision and drops hints along the lines of "if only I had help making them..." complete with long, dramatic sigh. Save me from a weekend of guilt-induced dough-rolling. |

Gas Station Gourmet Valentine's Day You are my hero! |

Not reluctant...just putting it out there and also because I've only had appetizers in the couple of times I've been there. I was wanting to hear from people who have eaten dinner there and could comment on the big dinner-sized picture not the little appetizer-sized experience. |

I've been to Hemingway's a couple of times but before I comment I'm curious to see what others think... |

I second that. It's Utz for me here in NJ. |

"gourmet" foods you liked as a kid I raised my daughter to be a Food Adventurer and so, together, we were always trying new things. One of our favorites was chicken salad made with mayo, apples, raisins, pecans, and curry powder. We just loved it! In fact we loved it so much I sent her to school with a curry chicken salad sandwich one day. Curry turns mayonnaise green and, of course, it smells funky...especially to junior high school kids. My daughter came home that day reallllllly not happy with me for sending that sandwich in her lunch bag as she got to be "freak of the day" at school that day! One day she'll be in therapy talking about the trauma of what her mom used to make for her school lunches. :-) |

good bread bakery in central NJ (monmouth cty) Too weird! I just logged on to ask the very same question (just because I'm craving bread and don't feel like driving to north Jersey or Manhattan to get some) except that I'm in Point Pleasant and was going to ask it about Ocean County as well as Monmouth. |

Motorcycling between Myrtle Beach & Charleston in a few months along Route 17... ...what can we expect to find? Any hidden or not-so-hidden treasures we should know about? |
