That sounds like an awesome vacation!
San Francisco Hound Coming to Portland...Please Critique My List For Your Wonderful Food City!!!
I'm pretty sure Upright Brewing is only open on the weekends. It's definitely worth a visit though.
Vancouver BC Hound returning for more Portland chow
I like Pine States biscuits alright but I don't think they are good enough to wait in the long line at the market for. Tasty'N'Sons cheddar biscuit is really good though, I would get one if you go there.

Leonardo is right, Saraveza has really thoughtful beers on tap. Also not breweries but with awesome beers are Belmont Station and Horse Brass. I would go to these three before Hopworks just because the beer is so much better.
Portland Wine
I agree with definitely going to Oregon Wines on Broadway. I love that place. They always have a really thoughtful selection of local wines by the glass.
If you go to McMinville, Nick's Italian Cafe has really good food and a nice wine list. They are open for lunch too.
Gastropub/brew pub in Portland
For creative beer, the Cascade Barrel House makes some very interesting sour beers that you won't find anywhere else. I love the beers there, they are unique and delicious. It's right outside of downtown on the Eastside of the Willamette river and not an expensive cab ride but you should eat somewhere else if you're only in town for a couple of nights. There are lots of good restaurants close by with good beer and food. Pretty much everywhere in Portland has good good beer, I'm just trying to think of a Gastropub with "creative" beer and good food. I really like Spints Alehouse for their beers and food. They always have a good mix of local and imported beers on tap and their food is really good. Neither one of these places are downtown but they are easy to get to with a taxi or on a bus. I can't really think of a really good example of a gastropub in Portland, it seems like the better brew pubs focus on their beer and the food is kinda like an afterthought. But most of the good restaurants here have a thoughtful beer list with good beer, just maybe not creative. Sorry if that's confusing, there are a lot of options for good beer and food, what kind of food do you want to eat?
College Trip to Portland with a 17 year Old Foodie.
I had a really good lunch at Jade Teahouse in Sellwood the other day, which isn't too far from Reed. Their Bahn Mi sandwiches are really good and they have other good noodle dishes. The space is nice too.
Walkable from PDX Union Station -- good for groups and also solo diners?
A solo diner can get a good meal and wine at the Davis Street Tavern which is close by. They have a good happy hour too.
For good late night food, Gilt Club isn't too far.
What's your best recipe for guacamole?
I agree, I've never had a fiberous avocado. Why do you peel avocados?
Portland home cooks and chefs: I could use your advice about where to shop and what's in season in February
The Hollywood farmers market is open the first and third Saturdays in February and is closer to the airport if you happen to be here then.
Cork is a great wine shop really close to the New Seasons you would be going to but New Seasons has a nice selection of wine as well.
potluck ettiquette
I just read this thread up to here and I too have no idea what a Mexican platter is.
Charlie Trotter's Closing
I went there in 2002. I brought several bottles of 2002 Bordeaux to drink with my meal and then after we all ate and were taking a tour of the cellar I let it slip that the wine was my birth year wine and they weren't very impressed because I was only twenty. Before that, they made me a 10+ course pescetarian dinner that was one of the best meals of my life however. It cost us over $700 each including wine but in hindsight it was worth it. A great experience. Ah, the good old days.
What's for dinner, the Holiday Edition! #120 [old]
Dungeness Crab. With butter. My go to winter celebratory dinner dish.
Long shot, but here goes for Grand Mound
Dick's Brewery is in Grand Mound and their beer is good, and they make their own sausage. La Tarasca as mentioned is definitely worth a visit. Olympia is about 20 minutes away with a few good restaurants...
Are King Crab Legs cooked fresh at Alaska restaurants?
Whole foods in Portland had fresh king crab last year. It was really creamy and rich. Expensive but delicious.
Vegetarian Ramen
I'm pretty sure wafu does a veggie ramen. Ive been meaning to check it out myself.
Best Yellow Curry in PDX
I just had a yellow curry soup at Lela's Bistro on NW 23rd and it was really good. It comes with either rice noodles or a baguette. I highly recommend you try it. Their Banh Mi sandwiches are good too.
Looking for suggestions during my vacation to Portland.
You're hotel is only a few blocks from Miho which is a pretty good izakaya restaurant on interstate. You can also go to the alibi tiki lounge and sing karaoke right by your room. Im pretty sure they have a free salad bar. Other than that you're going to have to take the max. You could also walk to saraveza which has top notch beer and pause kitchen which has all around good food and a really good burger
.
Looking for the best deep fried prawns in the Portland Metro area
Halibut's on Alberta Sreet has good fried prawns and chips.
best beer options
Also, the Belmont Station has a really thoughtful beer selection. The East Burn is pretty close to Hawthorne too and they have a nice selection of beer and pretty good food for a brew pub too.

Good Lunch Spot in McMinnville
Nick's has awesome Italian food in downtown McMinville. Thet have really good wine and really good food. I love it there, you can't go wrong.
Donut Fiend
Tonnalis donuts on Alberta street are pretty good. I avoid voodoo doughnuts, I don't think they're very good,
need to buy 8 cases of good wine- where to buy in bulk?? (beaverton or Portland)
I love Vinopolis. I am in there way too much.
Where to stay for good food in walking distance?
The Kennedy school in NE Portland is a hotel in walking distance to a whole bunch of good restaurants and coffee shops around Alberta/Killingsworth. It's a pretty cool building and the rooms should be in your price range.
inexpensive lunch locations
The falafel place on Division is called Fat Kitty, and it is good. Also on Division is Little T American Bakery. Their Continental plate is a really good snack. It's one of the best baguettes in town with butter and jam and cheese. All of their other baked goods are also top notch.
Stopping in Portland - foodie recs, best of Portland
I don't get the voodoo donuts hype either. I live two blocks away from Tonalli's on Alberta and I think their donuts are better and there's never a wait. I've heard Sesame donuts is the best in town but never been.
