Looking for Maine rec's for Camden & Portland + critique of choices so far for upcoming trip

I've been eating Standards morning buns since I first discovered them on a small mew in Old Port (I followed my nose) decades ago. They're not quite as good these days, but still worthwhile. Consider calling and asking for them to hold what you want; they've always done that for me.

Vacation Dining in Camden, ME and surrounding coast

Is Shepards Pie still going strong? I'd add that to mid coasts list (Rockport.)

Mid-Coast Maine trip report

Minor correction-chef/owner Melissa Kelly at Primo is a she. Sorry your meal was barely average. I've eaten there and at her original restaurant in upstate NY dozens of times, and about 90% of meals were close to perfect.

What's new in the Berkshires?

Thanks 637! Was hoping to get there this coming week, and good to know there might be something worthwhile when we do. Usually find waffles with chicken in the overkill category, but might just have to try. Tart too.

Good fried chicken in W Mass?

Where in western MA are you? I was on a similar quest for years, and now fulfill my fried chicken jones with seasonal visits to The Flying Chicken in Troy, NY. Brined, cooked to order chicken plus all the sides. And you can order by the piece. Oh yeah, and it's cheap.

Cafe Adam Report ( Great Barrington) $$$$$

Nah.....food's always been good, but not great, and doesn't seem to warrant the prices.

Sushi in the Berkshires

But do you really want sushi from a restaurant that got a poor health safety rating, like Koto?????????

I agree with quality and cost at Bizan. Personally, I've been missing Shujis in New Lebanon for a decade. Now I wait till I'm at the Maine coast.......no help for eating locally.

Williamsburg Snack bar moves and expands

I stopped by Saturday lunch time. They were swamped, lot was full. Got a lovely cup of fresh clam chowder to go, but took a while to find a plastic spoon.
Am hoping they find their groove. The young staff was doing OK with the rush, but the owners (?) were beyond stressed. Needed to take a breath.

District Kitchen & Bar in Pittsfield, MA

Thanks, that's what I've heard. Still haven't gotten to District yet, but have enjoyed meals at Public in past.

I've only been to Roasted Garlic once, which was enough. Tried the fried clams, which were poorly fried and didn't taste fresh. Made Matt Reilly's seem like a gourmet fish house.

District Kitchen & Bar in Pittsfield, MA

Any thoughts? Looking for something new, different, and excellent. We were heading to Mezze but am not excited about present menu. Couldn't find DK&B menu online (did find once before.)

Also, how loud would it be for early dinner......7ish?

Thanks Patti. Don't know anyone else who's tried it, and there are rarely more than 3 cars there when I drive by. Beginning to think the spot is a total loss for a restaurant.

Hi magiesmom! Haven't ever tried a croissant style stuffed pretzel. I stop at BE on every trip to the valley (am now enamoured by their quiche) . Will look for the pretzel next visit, thanks!

Bar and tapas menus at Rouge can keep light eaters under $20. You can also order off dinner menu, as some of the apps are of meal size, like the mussels.

Berkshires- Lenox Lee Seafood question

We're landlocked. Nothing is truly fresh. Try a trip to Troy Farmers Market some Saturday. There's a fish monger with fresh from Long Island fish and shellfish.

Well, since I (as a local) could have written the first half of your post (except for defunct Cafe Riva....she now has food to go at Berkshire Organics in Pittsfield), will recommend my new to go to place in GB, the Bistro Box.

Roadside dining, but as good as it gets, as long as you're not looking for a fine dining experience. There are a few postings on this board.

Recently had nice dinner at Prarie Whale, but that may be too dispaced Brooklyn. Good luck!

upcoming Mid Coast visit, need update

Assume you've already had breakfast at Thomaston Cafe. Always lovely. And yes, get to Suzuki, it's fantatic. Last time I was there she made me an off menu dinner plate of sashimi. Wish I had one tonight!

The Bistro Box

So I have to add my kudos. Finally made it to GB, and we had lunch at Bistro Box. As a fan of next to raw burgers, who now only eats grass fed beef, I tried the Box burger, but expected a smaller burger that couldn't be cooked rare. Was I wrong! Couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. Definitely the best burger I've had in the area(sorry Rouge.)
We had o rings, they were perfect, friend had the Tuscan panini, also great. Even the lemonade rocked.
Wish it wasn't 45 minutes away!!!

Checked the other day, BL is open for lunch. Forgot about Mission, probably the best option.

BERKSHIRE eats ( staying near Hancock Ma)

Bob's is on Rt. 7 in Lanesboro. Mezze is great, but swamped in the summer. I love the ideas of the Meat Market, but you pay absolute top dollar for small servings. I'd pick Prairie Whale over that any day, also serves pasture raised meat. Supposed to have a great weekend brunch.

Quick Lunch near Barrington Stage?

I have to go with magiesmom's recommend.......I've had a few mediocre meals at Flavours, and have completely given up on Spice Dragon. Last 2 meals there were poor to terrible, including spring rolls that tasted rancid (could have been the oil).

No doubt making Mama cringe, if she saw her world class rolls reduced to inedible.

There's not much in downtown, but if it's there you could try How We Roll, sometimes parked next to the old CSB building on North St. Consistently good, and cheap! Check their page for where they are.

Is Baba Louis open for lunch? Thought they opened @ 5.
