Pig roast recommendations near Albany/Mass. border?

I second Lenox's recommendation. You won't get better pasture raised meat.

Electra's Cafe Pittsfield Ma

I ate lunch there, maybe a year ago, and was disappointed. Had spanikopita that was somewhat bland, no flakiness, poorly reheated. Side of salad not worth mentioning. Companion had a burger that I thought seriously overpriced for everyday Cisco level beef.

Obviously, haven't been back. Tsarina, Maggiesmom, have you been to Sutter's meat yet?

CCK now is Ocean Palace, across Central Ave.and a little further towards downtown. Nicer looking spot, and I think even better. Worth the try, for sure.

Hi Tsarina and Maggie: read this review and was thinking that will have to be my next lunch stop when I'm over in the valley. Don't usually get further than S. Hadley, but O.F. sounds wonderful.
Recently had a great lunch at Ocean Palace (?) in Albany, but that's another board.
It would be delightful to find each other sometime.

ISO: killer chocolate cake in Pioneer Valley

I'm a chocolate baker, and really fussy about chocolate cake, etc. I haven't found anything in the valley that knocks my socks off, but wanted to share that I love, and drive a long way to get, Bread Euphoria in Hadleyville's chocolate bouchons (they freeze beautifully.) They are not traditional bouchons; are very dry and cocoa based, with added chocolate chunks, and made in a muffin tin. Extremely chocolaty.

Unfortunately, though their little cakes and cupcakes are well made and lovely to look at (and gift), I don't care for thier chocolate stout cake, and find their buttercream less than perfect.

If you're ever in the Berkshires, stop at Chocolate Springs on Rt. 20 btwn Pittsfield and Lenox, and try his chocolate cupcake with true vanilla buttercream.

Sunday Brunch in the Berkshires (or within an hour of)

I can't recommend traveling to Gala. As saturngirl noted, it's acceptable, but nothing with a feel of the Berkshires. Hotel meal.

Thanks too, El Corjito was my choice though it may not appeal to my dining companion.

Burlington, VT on a Monday?

We're going to be in Burlington just for the day on Monday. I culled a lovely list of restaurants from previous postings, but almost all are closed Mondays.

Looking for mid-morning snack.....bakeries, etc. Then a dinner we can get to on the early side so we can hit the road early. Any food other than fast.
Thanks!

Long weekend on Maine Cost - feedback on plan?

Seabasket is excellent for fried fish, whole belly clams, oysters (in season, of course.)

Red's Lobster roll is just shelled lobster in a roll; you have to decide if it's worth the wait. Line moves very slowly.

I once had the best inexpensive lobster roll I've ever had at a little drive-up in the middle of Blue Hill....sorry, can't remember the name!

The Meat Market, Great Barrington

Good to know, rfn. I'd been planning on trying their pulled pork if I hit a day it was available as a sandwich. Thanks.

The Meat Market, Great Barrington

I've been having a problem too...love the concept, want to love the place but it's hit or miss. Have had some good, fresh meats (know what you mean about shriveled, Lettuce), primarily pork chops, but even there, some issues. I do eat and enjoy pork fat, and don't mind trimming some on my own at home, but when the fat cap is about half of the chop, and the price is astronomical......

As to prepared foods, have never had one of the lunch specials but did try the fried chicken dinner last summer. I love fried chicken, and don't cook it. It was good, but two tiny pieces and a side of a watermelon salad for a lot of money. It wasn't that good. Actually, though the chicken doesn't have the pasture raised heritage, The Flying Chicken in Troy, NY does great fried (brined) chicken, available by the piece, at KFC type prices.

I did get a pricy but delightful smoked duck breast from the Meat Market that I would purchase again.

Wildwood BBQ now open in Hadley

Noticed it there yesterday, but no one at it during prime lunch hours. Hope someone tries and posts.

Moving to the Berkshires- ISO Best Farmers Market and more

Have to give a shout out to Berkshire Mountain Bakery. Breads are made from really healthy grain, even the white ones, and naturally yeast fermented. Plus they have a very talented pastry chef who makes excellent croissants. I like their pizza too......pastries and pizza available at the bakery, breads available at many markets, plus bread and pastries at Lenox and one of the two Pittsfield Farmers Markets.

I think Guidos is a decent market, though you need to shop selectively. Some stuff worth the price. Happy hunting....by the way, there are little farm stands everywhere, and it's almost time for sweet corn.

Thai food trailer-Middle Falls

We were driving to Saratoga on Rt. 29 when we saw this and stopped for lunch.
No tables, no shade, but great authentic food. Two sisters, and they're doing s wonderful job.
We tried the pad Thai and yum unsum(?); both were superior.
Would skip the spring rolls.
Oh, and it's the cleanest roadside eatery I've ever seen.

They're only there Fri and Sat sfyetnoons in the empty lot next to Aubuchon hardware, just beyond intersection of Rt. 40 on Rt.29, a little North of Greenwich.

Still haven't gotten there. Wish I had a few more "don't miss it" messages......pushing me to make the 45 minute ride.

Has anyone tried Mr. Fugi Sushi in Sty Plaza albany?

Would like to know if it's worth trying, even for lunch. I love sashimi, and also am interested in some of the cooked meals. Thanks!

Sunday Brunch for 15-20ppl in Lee/Lenox, MA

We only ate there once, late lunch hour. The service was abysmal, took over 40 minutes (we were about to walk out) to get a paninni we were sharing, and the food was just barely mediocre.
No apologies, no return on our part.

The Flying Chicken in Troy, NY

Well, I finally made it there, and thought it was wonderful. Only wish it wasn't so far from home (I do live in the middle of nowhere.) We went for lunch, and both had bone-in fried chicken, and I had coleslaw. We found the chicken moist, well seasoned, perfectly fried.
I read the comments re: "raw chicken", and wonder as to the definition. My thigh had a tinge of pink at the bone; to me, that was perfectly (as in not over) cooked. Not even a hint of pink in any of our other pieces.
I found the coleslaw fresh and with enough pepper to have some zing. Companion had fries which he liked. I don't bother much with french fries.
Will definitely go back as often as I get to Troy.
Found the service very pleasant too, and was happy to see a fair business at 1:30 in the afternoon. Also, mentioned to the owner that I'd started the thread here, and was pleased that he'd read all of it.
By the way, dining companion and I both enjoyed the casual yet clean and attractive ambiance. My kind of place!

Western Mass next weekend

I grew up having homemade (yeah, we had a store quality milkshake machine) chocolate milkshakes for breakfast. My parents justified it by insisting on a raw egg in the mix. Yum.
