Lobster Prices

If you're up for a drive. Ocean fresh in Attleboro has a deal

5.99/lb any size.

We just picked up a 2.5 pounder for lobster mac tonight. It paired very well with a Cremant de Bourgone from BLM wines.

Looking for a good patty melt

Go out to Cabot's in Newton Corner. It's not N. of Boston, but it's very easy to get to.

Patty melt w/ a rasberry lime ricky...

Best Burgers

You can get a very good black-n-bleu burger at Joe Sent Me in N. Cambridge/Davis. I'm pretty sure that RF O'sullivans has it as well. Though, Sully's has been getting mixed review lately.

B-side comment

Same here. Loved it when it opened, still love the bartending and the room. I never eat there anymore though.

B-side's menu used to update regularly with nteresting choices at a decent price point. Now it seems stuck at roast chicken, steak, a fish, two salads and a burger. I can't bear to order the melted gouda app anymore.

Anyone remember the guest chef nights they used to host?

I need to find killer buffalo wings

I've recenlty found some very decent wings at the Lower Depths (old Deli Haus). The menu makes some mentions about Syracuse. Maybe the manager is a WNY native?

Good heat, nice and crispy. Best I've found in Boston, but I have to get over and check out the Depot now.

Spicy hot crawl suggestions

Closer to the city, Rod Dee's Papaya Salad is pretty fierce too.

The hottest indian food that I've ever had was at Punjab in Arlington. Very tasty, but wow!

Private room for 25, clambake recommendation?

As an alternative alot of the harbor cruiselines will do a clambake/harbor tour. My previous employer used to do one every summer that was very well liked. I think you can bring your choice of caterer on many.

Private room for 25, clambake recommendation?

The Summer Shack is generally overpriced and disdained on this board. Neverless, I was a guest at one of their clambake parties at the Alewife location and it was pretty decent and had the rustic charm of a real clambake (as much as can be expected in Cambridge). I have no idea on pricing though, but it was in a private room.

Summer shack isn't the greatest seafood place but I think it gets an overenthusiastic amount of bashing. If you want to keep close to the prudential ducktours it's a solid choice. The only other option that I can think of would be Atlantic Seafood Company but I'd guess it'd be even more $$.

I haven't been in a while, but I remember the Alewife WF being much better than the rest of the cambridge stores.

Best food city in North America.

I think if you're going to rate each city by whether you can walk to a Szechuan restaurant from downtown you can take most cities off the list. Most good eats in NYC are in the burroughs, LA without a car isn't very chow worthy.

I don't travel out west enough to comment, but Boston has a very diverse and accessable restaurant scene. I think there is a serious lack of mid-range options though.

btw I think Courthouse seafood has a very passable fish and chips special for 5 or 6 dollars

Anywhere to get really top notch whole leaf tea?

I get my tea at Christina's Spice store in Inman Sq. They carry a pretty large variety of MEM teas. Everything is prepackaged in sealed plastic bags though. They have a number of otions in each style.

Everything comes in two sizes. I usually pick up a large bag of irish breakfast and a few small bags of some of ones that I've never tried.

Looks like Cardullos and Formaggion also carry MEM tea.

Arancini (rice balls)

Another place in Medford: Victor's Deli

They have them on and off as specials. They're the big, fist sized, balls. They close pretty early though 5 or 6 in the evening.

Restaurants with best warm appetizer bread?

The Helmand makes flatbread in the main dining room. It comes with some great dips/sauces as well.

Portuguese, Italian, Mexican. Indian Makets near the Mass/RI border

Sweet,

Thanks everyone. I was hoping to avoid Providence (I keep getting lost w/ all the construction) and find somewhere that I could make a quick stop after work.

I'll just have to make a trip on the weekend.

Portuguese, Italian, Mexican. Indian Makets near the Mass/RI border

Hi,

I've just relocated to Attleboro and I'm having a hard time finding specialty food stores in the area. The darkness of winter and business of the new job has limited my exploration.

Are there any markets/ethnic grocers in the area? Anywhere between Norwood, MA and Providence would be great.

Restaurant rec's would be awesome too! Especially good pubs, chinese/indian, and mexican.

Thanks,

horrible

Where have you always had a bad meal?

I don't think I've ever had a good meal at the Pour House. Food has ranged from "eh" to mediocre. Everything they make can be had much better at other places.

I still like it though. It's a fun, cheap place that is very convienent. I think of it as cafeteria food w/ beer. I guess it's the best of the rest of the bad options on Boylston St.

The worst of the bad options is Whiskey's. They should just give up nad get rid of the kitchen and expand the bar space.

places to eat - watertown/newton line

Guiseppe's is still there. I was hooked on their meatball subs for years. I don't think it's nearly as good as it was before the fire a few years ago, but I still got there whenever I'm in that part of town.

It's still crazy cheap. I think a small sub is still under $3.00

I've spent many hours online at the Miracle of Science in Central Sq. They'll plug you in at the bar and let you nurse a beer or a bite to eat. I try to avoid hanging out during lunch or right after work as it gets crowded. During off hours it's great though.

How to ratchet up the spice at Punjabi Dhaba?

It's not in the city, but my place would be Punjab in Arlington. Haven't been to Tamarind bay or Tanjore yet though.

When I don't feel like making the trip to Arlington, I usually end up at Royal Bengal. They're also one of the few lunch buffet's that has dishes with a little heat.

All Star Sandwich - Has anyone Tried the Burger Yet?

I believe that Chris's rep is giving the place a boost. People know his other restaurants and are willing to give ASSB a second chance whereas a no-name place might not get such forgiving clientele. It's a double edged sword though, lots of excitement and business but overly inflated expectations as well.

I haven't been yet, I tried last weds for lunch but it was packed. I love the idea and the (ambitious) menu as well. A little expensive to be a regular lunch joint though.

Maybe Chris should send the staff to work at Bob's in Medford for a week or so. Those guys know how to move sandwiches in a hurry!

I need to find killer buffalo wings

JBM, you've hit the nail on the head. The local purveyors have their priorities mixed up! Small and crispy is what we need. I think alot of places figure if the wings are super hot nothing else matters.

I need to find killer buffalo wings

The sauce was very similar to country sweet. Not battered though. The wings were very big/meaty too. (FYI Christmass Tree shop had country sweet sauces a few months ago)

Pontillo's and Chester Cab....Your giving me some serious cravings. My fave in ROC were at the Distillery. They were almost too "well done" but that's how I like them.

At least now we can get Beef on Weck at All Star

I need to find killer buffalo wings

I went to The Chickenbone for the first time last week and was unimpressed.

The skin on the wings was rubbery and they were drowning in sauce. Decent heat in the buffalo sauce though. A dozen went for just under $9.

I'm still looking for the wings from my college days in upstate NY, crispy wings with just enough sauce to add flavor and heat without sogging down the skin.

I had some very nice Rochester style wings at Silvertones recently. It's a sweet/hot glaze that's very addicting. Not crispy though.
