random thinking

First, thanks to everyone who helped. Here's some brief notes on places we ate plus a link to a blog post where I discuss Dstage (Madrid) & Disfrutar (barcelona).I dont always check back here but feel free to message me and Im happy to reply.

Loved the food in Spain. We ate a mixture of tapas restaurants, bars & 2 fancy meals. Always drank the local wine which was both delicious and cheap.
Best tapas in Seville was Azotea. We ate dinner at the Calle Jesús del Gran Poder location and liked it so much we ate lunch the next day at their other (smaller!) location. We arrived at 8pm and were the first in line. By 8:30 the line was down the block so glad we got their early as not everyone got in. Delicious, innovative, and shockingly inexpensive!

Worst meal: Tapas 24 in Barcelona-dont go.

Most amazing meals: Dstage & Didfrutar. Really once in a lifetime experiences. On my blog I wrote 3 seperate posts. One on General impressions, Jewish Life & the 3rd is labeled Food! So read about them there. Thanks!!

Will be in Seville, Madrid & Barcelona in mid April. Planning on doing mostly tapas but did make a reservation at both these places for a different experience. Do you think they will be too similiar? Thanks

barcelona rest help

Husband & I will be in Barcelona for 3 nights in mid April. Goals are to know if there are specific things we should eat in Barcelona that we wouldn't have experienced in Seville & Madrid (we are going there first). Also like each night to be a different experience/menu than the night before.
It seems like the 'best' restaurants in Barcelona are multi course/set prix. That doesnt usually work for me as I dont eat meat/pork/poultry(but do love seafood & fish) and Im just not that big an eater! Assuming I dont get into tickets am I missing something by skipping those types? At the moment thinking of LLamber, Arume, Tapas 24, Cientoccho,& Robadora as possibles. We are staying at the EuroPark on Argo,5 mins from Passeig de Gracia. Restaurants dont have to be walking distance but that's always a plus!
Thanks!

tapas tours-seville/madrid/barcelona

Thanks. I reached out to her. She recommends that we do the tour with her our first eve in Seville rather than our last. That makes sense in terms of learning the lay of the land but am a little concerned about jet lag allowing me to stay up late eating & drinking. We will be flying overnight from the east coast and arriving in Seville around 1pm. I guess a long nap?

tapas tours-seville/madrid/barcelona

Husband & I will be in each city for 3-4 nights in mid April. Am interested in doing 1-2 tapas tours. Is one city better for them than another? Starting in Seville so may prefer Madrid and/or Barcelona when we will be more awake? Thanks!

Barcelona-best area to stay in for restaurants

Thanks. We are going in April so over the next month or so I'll do a lot of reading, narrow down some ideas and then post (prob a lot of) questions on specific restaurants! We love good food and while budget is a consideration at home, its less so when we travel.

For now, need to pick a hotel and looks like the one near the Passeig de Gracia will be a better choice. Thanks!

dinners near Hotel Tivoli Lisboa -Av. da Liberdade, 185

Thanks. I will look into these. They dont mind a taxi but, if possible prefer to send them 10 mins away rather than 30!. They love good food and are sophisticated eaters but not adventurous if that makes sense. Far away form meat & potatoes, but not quite molecular. Thanks!

My parents will be spending 3 nights in Lisbon in April, staying at the Hotel Tivoli Lisboa. They love good food and with so many choices I would like to recommend places near their hotel. Possibly one being a fado? Thanks!

tel aviv restaurants-still need help :-)

Thanks! I think walking on the 1st night is important. Keep us awake! I have 3 more nights.
Need to narrow it down from Dallal, Oasis, Araia, Shila, Mizlala & Popina!
Hoping to get a range of experiences, thought all with good food ( and alcohol!)

tel aviv restaurants-still need help :-)

Thanks. For the first night (we land around 2:30) looking for something good but not fancy and walking distance to hotel.
Sitting outside would be great.

Would Benny Hadagim fit that? Or Manta Ray?

tel aviv restaurants-still need help :-)

Please help. First let me say that I have been using chowhound to pick restaurants all over the world for years and have never had as much trouble as I am having in Israel. While I know peoples opinions can vary these reviews are seriously all over the place. One persons-best meal ever – is followed by -worst restaurant ever!
So here is revised my list. We have 4 nights one being on the day we land.

While I’m not looking to waste my money I am on vacation so don’t need ‘cheap’. Also having to make a reservation in advance is not a problem as I’m going in the end of October.
Like to experience a variety of atmospheres; hip, small chef driven, fancy, casual…
If I can walk from the Savoy, 5 Geula St., it’s a plus but not essential. I’m not interested in Asian food and a liquor license is a must! If I left off your fav feel free to add. Thanks so much.

Aria, Mizlala, Oasis, Popino, Shila.
Thinking of Kalimera for 1st night as it seems casual?

jerusalem restaurants

Thanks! So do you agree that Dolphin Yam is mediocre?

And would you do either Mona or Macheyuda but not both?

Not really interested in Korean food. Or bacon. Imnot kosher but dont eat pork. Also, I dont need cheap, dont mind spending if its worthwhile.
We dont do planned sit down lunches so am mostly interested in dinner. Anything Im missing?

restaurant advice needed -tel aviv

Thanks! I am getting confused between Night kitchen and kitchen market.
Will take Catit off as I dont love a set price menu. We dont do planned sit down lunches, just eat as we go. If Messa is worthwhile Im ok spending. Would prefer to avoid places that are $65/entree (mul yam) but other than than a little costly is ok- if worthwhile.
I will look into Shila, Aria, and kalimara and popina. Def want alcohol! What r your feelings on Herb Samuel?

jerusalem restaurants

Similar to my tel aviv question!

We will be in Jerusalem at the end of Oct. and can use help narrowing down my restaurants. We love good food; I don’t eat meat or poultry but do eat fish and seafood. Husband eats anything.

Would like to experience different kinds of restaurants-don’t want to eat in the same atmosphere and same menu each night. We have 4 nights, one being a Friday, and another seeing the 7pm light show with Masada/Dead Sea day trip next morning.

Looking at Machneyuda, Adom, Mona, Scala,Dolphin Yam. What should I add/eliminate? Suggestions on order welcome also. We are staying at the Harmony 6 Yoel Moshe Salomon St, in the Nahalat Shiva neighborhood. Walking distance is a definite plus not required. Thanks!

restaurant advice needed -tel aviv

We will be in Tel Aviv at the end of Oct. and can use help narrowing down my restaurants. We love good food; I don’t eat meat or poultry but do eat fish and seafood. Husband eats anything. Would like to experience different kinds of restaurants-don’t want to eat in the same atmosphere and same menu each night. Although we have 4 nights the first night we land (from the states) at 3:00 so expect to eat an early casual dinner and crash. Another night we will be doing an all day tour up north so again, may want something more casual though perhaps on the later side?

Looking at Catit, Messa, Herbert Samuel and Night Kitchen. What should I add/eliminate? Suggestions on order welcome also. We are staying at the Savoy, 5 Geula St. Walking distance is a definite plus not required. Thanks!

israel late Oct-a few ?

We (2 people) will be in Tel aviv & Jerusalem in late Oct. How far in advance should I book dinners? What time do people generally eat-like Europe closer to 9 or 10 or more like philly-7:30/8pm? Hate to eat in an empty restaurant!
No opentable in Israel so do you recommend emailing restaurants or asking hotel to do it? Thanks!

great meal at popolino!

4 of us went to Popolino last evening and had a great meal. It was quiet and we had wonderful service. We all got the touristo menu-4 courses for $40. Tons of choices, nothing was restricted and all thought it was plenty of food. Everything was delicious; highlights were the steak, lamb chops, pastas and fried cheese bread (sorry forgot name) . Will def return.
