Visiting Teenagers

I am hosting 2 teenage boys from the Middle East and want to take them for dinner somewhere interesting. Their day ends at Bathurst/Bloor and I live in the Parkdale area. I am thinking Caplansky's or Pizzeria Libretto. Any other suggestions?

Single Woman in Miami

I have a conference in Miami for a few days and am coming in a few days earlier for some holiday time. I am wondering if you could recommend places for a single 50 year old woman. I'm looking for moderately priced, unique places. I'll visit Little Havana and Little Haiti, so places there would be great, as well as anything else.

Dad's 90th Private Room

We are looking for a private room for my day's 90th birthday. However, rather than a sit down lunch or dinner we wanted a more casual drop in for a couple of hours with munches. This is so people can come up and sit and talk with my dad. Any suggestions, preferably central or Yonge/Sheppard area?

Where to take 2 out of town teenagers

I am hosting 2 teenage girls from the Middle East. I was wondering where to take them for dinner and/or dessert while they are here. I was thinking a gelato and a walk in Little Italy or somewhere in Kensington Market. Any suggestions, perhaps even a great patio, would be appreciated. I live in the West end (Parkdale).

Vegetarian on Baldwin St.

I'm taking a Pescetarian for lunch on Baldwin St. It's been awhile since I was there and would appreciate any recommendations for a modestly priced lunch. He is mostly vegetarian but will eat fish (but not shell fish). I think there was a vegetarian chinese place but some regular spots might have good vegetarian options.

Eclectic, moderate South Beach

I'm visiting Miami for a work conference and the company is putting us up at the Ritz Carlton South Beach, which is great because I could never afford it. I know there's a thousand restaurants but what could you recommend that's moderately priced (under $20 mains) and different. I'll be in South Beach but hope to get to Little Havana for an afternoon. Any type of food is good, although I tend to steer away from heavy meat places. Thanks!

Recs for meal to end Passover? Need for really good bread.

It's not bread but my 3 children and I always meet up at Pizzeria Libretto to end Passover. It's our favourite and our "tradition". Tevye would be proud.

Patio at Yonge and College

We work at Bay and College and now that the weather is warming up, are looking for a patio for lunch. I'm not sure what's around there but I would appreciate any recommendations. We've done Mercatto and Pogue Mahone.

Early Dinner on Elm St.

I have a visitor from Australia and we are going to an event at the Arts and Letters Club on Friday. It starts at 7 so we'll need to have an early dinner. The Club is on Elm St. and it's been a long time since I ate there. What is a moderately priced restaurant you can suggest for us?

Open Window Bakery closing?

Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. I, too, loved their blueberry buns as a girl. I'm not sure if they were better back then or my memories are sweeter. Their rye bread was fabulous, though. As for rugelah, the best are at Harbord Bakery (along with the best Challah)

CHer visiting from Toronto

Wow, thanks for all the information, Kathryn. The Gustatory tour looks like a lot of fun and I'll go through all the other information.

CHer visiting from Toronto

I'll be visiting Manhattan with 6 young (20 to 26) adults in tow. We're staying at an apartment rental near 57th and 10th so I'd appreciate knowing of any good bakery/bagel places around there where I can pick up things to take back for breakfast. We'll be out and about and I know there are hundreds of great places to eat but if you can think of anything offhand that would be fun and inexpensive, and a New York experience, pass them along.

Miniature Carrots

This is an odd request, but I need to find those little miniature carrots with the green tops attached. Does anyone know a green grocer in the Toronto area who would carry them? Thanks!

Eaton Centre Food Court

Okay, I don't know if this is even appropriate for Chowhound and it's a little embarassing, but I need your opion on where to eat in the Eaton Centre food court. I'm taking my poor universtiy student daughter clothes shopping and will be dropping a couple of hundred dollars or more, so I'm not spending big bucks on dinner! She's vegetarian so if you can recommend anything, I would be very grateful!

Dinner very near the Morgan Library

I'm visiting New York with my 85 year old dad. We want to visit the Morgan Library and are looking for dinner places very close by as he can't walk long distances. Nothing too expensive would be helpful and nothing too exotic. Thanks!

Dinner tonight Spadina & Bloor

We're seeing a Fringe play tonight on Glen Morris which is south of Bloor, east of Spadina. Is there a restaurant close by that's quick and affordable? Silly question as I know there are tons, but what would you recommend that's close to the theatre?

Lunch at Bathurst and Dundas

I was looking for something quick and casual and not too expensive. What do you think of Aunties and Uncles?

Lunch at Bathurst and Dundas

I have to take a client out for lunch on Friday in the neighbourhood of Bathurst and Dundas. We can walk up to College, down to Queen or a bit east and west. She does not like Chinese food! What would you suggest?

Toronto Chowhound in Omaha Needs Recs

I will be visiting Omaha for a week to attend a theatre conference. My days will be pretty full but we do get a bit of time on our own. We have an evening to explore the Old Market so any recommendations for there would be welcome. I'll be staying at Creighton U student housing. I would also like to take the director of my play out to dinner to a place where we can have a relatively private conversation. I'm looking for moderately priced places, although everyone is telling me to try the steak in Omaha. Thanks!

A private room to show a movie

Anything in a restaurant is going to be expensive. Why not try the local library and bring in your own snacks (no alcohol, though).

Fresh Fish from the Great Lakes?

This is a good question, Raybon, since we are all trying to eat as locally as we can. I was in Silver Spoon on Roncesvalles last week and had an absolutely delicious Ontario Rainbow Trout. I was delighted to find local fish.

ISO good brunch options near Queen and Roncesvalles

I'm not crazy about Easy. I find it incredibly noisy. I also had a very bad experience at Chopin's with a rude manager and server. Poor John's on Queen has some interesting food and I also agree with others that Tinto's can't be beat. I always take half my wrap home since there is so much. I only like Freshwood in the summer when you can eat on the Patio. I haven't tried Brad's but further up I do like River.

Dinner near Roy Thomson Hall

We are going to the Symphony on Wednesday and due to a prior commitment, we cannot eat until 6:30. That means we need a place right on King by the Hall so we can get there on time for 8. I know they are not the best restaurants in town, but what do you suggest? I've heard okay things about Big Daddy's.

Roncesvalles - late to the party but...wow!!

I've lived in the area for over 20 years and it has changed a lot - mostly for the better! I've never been to Cafe Polonez but have been to Chopin where the food was mediocre and the service rude. Depending what you want, there is a lot of choice. One of my favourites is still Domani's. The food is fresh, the service warm, and the prices reasonable. Silver Spoon is a real gem - in other parts of the city you would pay way more for such innovative food and immpecable service. Last time we were there they had ostrich as a special. At dessert they gave us complimentary warm chocolate chip cookies and a sample of dessert wine. It's a place where they seem genuinely glad to see you. River is also special. They train at risk kids in the food service industry (take that, Jamie Oliver). It can be a romantic place to snuggle in the banquettes at the back and the food, while not outstanding, is very good and well priced. Abstract Tree is new and I haven't tried it yet. Boho gets mixed reviews and speaking of reviews, you should check out The Revue theatre. It's really one of the last neighbourhood cinemas. Enjoy!

Political Cookies

I just happened to stop in at The Queen of Tarts on Roncesvalles and in addition to some lovely decorated Halloween gingerbread cookies, they also had various US politicians. I picked up a Sarah Palin. I can't wait until Nov. 4 to bite her head off!

I'm at a conference for 3 days at a hotel on Jarvis, just south of Carlton. Is there anywhere decent around there for lunch? I'm at a loss. Thanks!

5 Young Visitors on a Budget

Hello NY Chowhounders. My daugher and 4 of her friends, all impoverished university students, are visiting for a few days from Toronto. I'm footing the bill for their accommodation (aren't I nice) but they're on their own for food. They are staying at an apartment on 11th Ave. near 52nd St. but will be travelling all over town, including a late night show at The Rocky Horror show which is in Chelsea, I think. The apartment has a kitchen, so any good bagel places or bakeries near by would be great. They need really cheap places to eat. Are those fantastic New York food carts I hear about all over town? What would you suggest? And just to complicate things, 4 of the 5 are vegetarians. They are so excited to be visiting. New York is so fabulous!

Evening & morning in Anchorage

I'll be spending one evening and a morning in Anchorage. I know it's not a lot of time, but I'll have spent 8 days in Valdez, so I'll have my Alaska fill! I'm staying near the airport but happy to hop a cab downtown. What would you recommend for dinner and breakfast/lunch? I prefer a moderate priced place with good food. Thanks!

Niagara Vineyards with light refreshments

A colleague from Shanghai, China, is coming to Toronto for a convention. She wants to see, what else, Niagara Falls. I thought I would take her there and then do a drive up the Parkway and through wine country. I'll be spending a few bucks while she is here so I don't want to drop $100 a head on dinner. Do any wineries offer light refreshments, such as cheese or nibblies, with their tastings? Don't suggest lunch as this will be later in the day.

Farmers' Markets 2008

For those living in the Parkdale/Roncesvalles area, there is a new market starting on Monday May 26 and running on Mondays from 3 to 7. It's the Sorauren Park Farmer's market and will be at Sorauren Park. This is just south of Dundas, west of Lansdowne. I don't know what it will be like, but the organizer said they hope to have the usual, such as fruits and vegs, meats and more. If you live in the area, come out and support it.
