Indeed, Castle Hill has a beautiful outdoor bar on the water. I'd suggest going there for cocktails before dinner. It is to die for.

Good private party (luncheon) options?

Hi all,

I'm planning a bridal shower for 20-30 people this summer and would love some suggestions for restaurants. I'd prefer to have it in the east/west village or the lower east side. We'll need a private room (inside) with a nice atmosphere, delicious food and some yummy wine, but nothing that breaks the bank.

Sorry for the cross-posting -- my first choice was to find a spot in Brooklyn, so I posted this in the Outer Boroughs section, but I haven't gotten any suggestions.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Cheers,
Melinda

Does good Indian exist in Brooklyn?

Haven't found one yet either - and I certainly don't recommend the (new?) Baluchi's in Park Slope. I ordered an appetizer and vegetarian curry from them last week and it took them an hour and half to deliver it! And the food was pretty awful.

To their credit, though, I complained on the Baluchi's website and within minutes received a reply with some follow-up questions. The next day I received an email saying to call the Park Slope manager and that he would "take care of me" -- but I decided against it. I don't need a free meal or coupon from there, given the quality of the food...assuming that's what "taking care of me" meant...

Where to hold private party (luncheon) in Brooklyn?

Hi all,

I'm planning a bridal shower for 20-30 people this summer in Brooklyn -- preferably in Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope or Fort Greene -- and would love some suggestions for restaurants. We'll need a private room (inside) with a nice atmosphere, delicious food and some yummy wine, but nothing that breaks the bank. One option I'm considering is Ici in Fort Greene.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Cheers,
Melinda

Bridal shower spots in Brooklyn?

Oh and Fort Greene would be an option...I'm considering Ici, for instance, as I went to a wonderful engagement brunch there not long ago.

Bridal shower spots in Brooklyn?

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a quaint little spot in Brooklyn (preferably in DUMBO, Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, or Park Slope) to host my bridal shower this summer. I'm hoping for a private space inside, maybe for 20 to 30 people, with delicious food and yummy wine, but nothing that breaks the bank. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Melinda

Feedback about Pranzi Catering (Providence / Newport)?

Hi all,

I'm planning a post-wedding brunch in Newport and have narrowed down my caterers to either Pranzi or Blackstone. I've heard great things about Blackstone, but very little about Pranzi, except for two rave reviews I found on an obscure website. I'm torn, because while Blackstone seems like a safe (and delicious) bet, they're more expensive and are offering fewer options for my money. Does anyone have any feedback about Pranzi they could share to help me decide? Thank you!

Wedding weekend brunch in Newport

Hello fellow Chowhounders,

My fiancé and I are getting married in Newport, RI this October, and we're trying to find a good place to hold a brunch over the weekend for 80-90 people. We're looking for great food and a nice atmosphere (would be great to have a nice view!), but nothing overly formal. So far, what we've found is incredibly expensive -- the Tennis Hall of Fame, which charges $4500 for the space itself (nevermind catering fees) and the Chanler House hotel, which requires a minimum food and drink charge of $8500 (though I think this would have been too formal for us anyway). Are there other, more reasonable options we have overlooked? Thank you!!

Cheers,
Melinda

Make your own salad in Carroll Gardens?

I tried Chop Chop today and it was great. Thanks, vatl619!

Make your own salad in Carroll Gardens?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm up near Sackett Street so those are a little far, but I'll give them a try anyway. Thanks!!

Make your own salad in Carroll Gardens?

Hi all,

I just moved to Carroll Gardens and I work from home. I enjoy going out to grab make-your-own salads but I haven't found any places nearby (I know of some in Brooklyn Heights, but none further south). Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Cheers,
Melinda

Great to-go lunch salads in Brooklyn Heights?

Hi all,

I'm a sucker for delicious lunch salads -- specifically, I love the places where you pick a small or large salad base and someone mixes the greens with the toppings you want. While these types of delis are all over Manhattan, I just started working in Brooklyn Heights and I haven't found many good options. I know of Hale & Hearty Soups on Remson and Monty Q's on Montague -- does anyone have any other recommendations? Thanks!
