the fondue place up stairs on prospect in la jolla is/was called le fondue.
Is Fondue back? - The Melting Pot opinions.
no, i tried the place and felt it was a rip off, overpriced and low quality. i was with someone who chose to dine there. if it was at the least good i would not have minded to pay the prices for the slop offered, weither or not i did the cooking. they dont use stocks or broths, they use meat flavored base, low quality cheeses, and hershey's syrup in the dessert fondue would be an upgrade.
DTW - New Wine Bar - Grapevine - Novi, MI
ah, i know polly... i'm sure she will do a very nice job there.
Is Fondue back? - The Melting Pot opinions.
the point of any reataurant is to prepare quality food for the price, imo. melting pot misses. or am i crazy to think that when you pay the price melting pot charges for low quality raw meat and frozen bit sized dessert pieces. i would say the food is...nothing.
Fat Burger...Southfield,MI.
my favorite is chili, cheese, and bacon ala halsten with skinny fries. i really hope it is just like in L.A.

Valentines day in Detroit area
Elrushbo and Doc, Bourbon for me and my guest one evening was, well, a huge let down. My guest and I were excited to give it a try. I have ate 2 of Mina's other places (Aqua in S.F. in it's day and at M.G.M. in Vegas) and felt that our meal was poor in quality and very expensive. Mina was in the house and it was one of few times i have ever complained to the server about the food, we spotted him as we left. We felt the best things offered were the amuse of duck fat fries, the bread in it's little dish, and the garnish on the lamb plate (which was NOT Colorado as the eye was too small to be domestic.) Yes the garnish was very nice! What got me was the fact that Mina was there was part of our let down. I am not going to give it a review; we felt it was below the bar set by the hype. We sent back two courses (lobster corn dogs and tar tar poppers both were fishy as hell.) If you have ate his cuisine elsewhere you may be let down. The dish I had at Saltwater was the lobster pot pie which was good but at $75 it had better be. That was my experience.
Ann Arbor - Meyer Lemons at Hillers Market
Meijer in Royal Oak had them tonight when I was there, 5 for $2, I was suprised. Meyer Lemonaide spiked w/ stoli vanilla is in my cup as I type. So good.

I totally agree with gastronomical as Opus 1 isn't that great and is over-priced and nothing special, same with The Whitney, IMO. I like Puck's alot and have been there several times without a complaint. Saltwater is nice but i didn't enjoy Bourbon though (may have been an off nite and it was in their first 2 weeks of being open.) The Lark would be my pick from the above mentioned. I would recomend The Lark, Puck's, Saltwater, Tribute, and the Rugby Grille. I wouldn't go to the Melting Pot for anything more than the classic swiss cheese fondue, as it is over-priced for you doing the cooking and the products used are far from quality.
Detroit area--chicken, lemon, and rice soup
I really like Greek Isle version, it's thick with egg yolk, heavy on the chicken, and very flavorful.
Need Help Asian food recs Detroit/AA
You kind of hit it with the mall style food. Quick, cheap, and should be/may as well be take out is what, IMO, NY style is and places round here use the term.
I've never been to Edamame.
As to T. K. Wu in A.A., I didn't care for what I had for lunch there and have not been back (but I don't get to A.A. often.)
Sushi in Detroit?
I have had some really poor sushi at Little Tree. As to Asian Village, Fusia's Exec. Chef, David, is 2nd gen Japanese and his father is the sushi chef and a partner. It si too bad that it has not been well recieved but part of the problem is the location and not many people know that it is there.

Sushi in Detroit?
I ate at Fumi today at 10 mile and Novi Rd., WOW! Very, very good.
Chen Chow in B'ham
Wow! What's up with this place? Everything I hear and most of what I have read 'bout it is negative.

Pho Huang in Madison Heights, at 13 & Dequindre. Also on Dequindre you will find 2 good Chinese BBQ's, one is by Pho Huang in the same strip mall and the other is across the street. If you go up Dequindre to 15 mile (on the south east side of 15 mile)there is a very good Korean restaurant that is very authentic and i can't tell you the name 'cuz it is in Korean. Just noth of 15 mile is another Korean restaurant called Seoul Garden that is good, both are small mom and pop joints. There are many good asian eats on Dequindre between 12 mile and 16 mile.
Fumi is real good in Novi as is Cherry Blossom. Also on that side of town is New Seoul Garden off 696 and North Western highway. Most Chinese in town is "New York Style" (not so much), but Hong Hua on 12 and Orchard Lake is good (great for lunch). Further down Orchard Lake in Orchard Mall is Shangri La which is about the only Dim Sum this side of the border and the rest of the menu is just ok (IMO) but it is a local favorite.
Also, believe it or not, Schoolcraft College offers International dinners in their dinning room in the evenings. If you go during the Asian theme week you can get some good eats, yet the caveat is the food is prepared by students, but Chef Kevin is a C.M.C. and a local authority on eastern cuisine.
Cold in the midwest - ISO roasted butternut squash and other soups
don't forget to blend the soup very well (a long time) with and emersion blender for a great velvet texture and try to stay away from curry
Pad Thai Tips and Tricks
other keys to the dish... medium size noodles that are quality, use a good tamarind paste, and not too sweet on the sauce

Ms. Abraham rarely dis-likes any of her subjects; she is a food writer not a reviewer or critic. IMO.
bloomfield hills or birmingham top dining?
I feel lunch is a great time to go Hong Hua. It is a great value concidering soup and spring roll come with entrees. Your experence is sad to hear about but I must say that IMHO it is some of the better "chinese" in the area. I have ate at Hong Hua countless times for both lunch and dinner but mainly go at the lunch hour ( I was there yesterday.)
ISO Sweetbreads in Motown
Yum, sweetbreads. Been a while for me with these wonderful organs. Tribite, when Takashi there, offered a rabbit dish garnished with them that was outstanding (that was then, this is now). I believe Paul at Cuisine offered them on last time I was there (a few months ago) and may be your best bet. Theyr'e hard to find and even harder to find properly prepared. I hope this helps. Happy hunting.
