Mayas

I went to Mayas tonight and was very pleased. We started with the sangria they had as a special and it was very tasty. They start you off with their "chips" and sauce. The chips are like chinese wontons. We had the spring rolls as an appetizer and they were pretty good. The small sald that came along with them was wonderful. I had the spicy paella special which savory and declicious. It was packed with mussels, clams., squid and shrimp. My boyfriend had the tuna dish which was cooked perfectly. The food came out incredibly fast and the service was great. I would definitely go there again.

Cupcakes in the New Orleans area

So there are cupcakeries popping up all over the country, but very few to none here. Does anyone know of a cupcakery in New Orleans and the surrounding areas (I know Pralines by Jean on St. Charles has them)? How about places that have cupcakes in addition to other dessert items?

Laurel Street Bakery?

Yes it would be, I stopped there the other day, they have about 10 different kinds of muffins, a few breakfast sandwiches, and I even saw cupcakes! The coffee was pretty good .

In your opinion....

Brocato's is great and there's more than gelato. They have canolli's, cookies, spumoni, cappuccino and pastries in an old fashioned parlor.
As for Sucre, I am turned off by the attitudes of the employees.

Anyone been to Trinacria?

I tried Trinacria and loved it! I had the fish with valeti sauce( red sauce with fresh oranges, pine nuts, and raisins). It was very authentic Sicilian cuisine. If there was pesto on the menu it's gone now. Others at my table ordered the veal, one of the pasta dishes and a calzone and all were extremely satisfied!

Looking for Shrimp and Grits

If you want incredible grits Dante's Kitchen is the place to go. I'm sure there is something on the menu that will fill your shrimp need as well. Awesome brunch.

Pascal Manale or Casamentos?

I love Pascal's Manale! There's usually a lively atmosphere in the bar/oyster bar area while you're waiting for your table. It's great if you're in the mood for Italian/New Orleans food. The barbecue shrimp are good, but try the combination pan roast (oyster and crabmeat heaven), it's even better. They definitely do not use liquid margerine in the place of butter in the bbq shrimp, that's bogus. It's worth the walk to Manale's anyday.
