kalona super natural organic sour cream. sold mainly in iowa, where it originates, and minnesota and a few places in wisconsin. best i have ever had. better than breakstone and Daisy.

so i go to the build your own stir fry menu page where you select a protein item (steak or chicken or shrimp or tofu). and a flavoring sauce. and noodles or brown or white or jasmine rice. and veggies that either you pick at a veggie bar up front or that you let them pick for you. i pick tofu. and decline the rice/noodles because of a low carb diet. I get just a tiny amount of tofu which is bizarre since it is not exactly an expensive ingredient. the wait person tells me they can only put 3oz of tofu into the stir fry. they bring out a small bowl of tofu in response to my complaints and charge me $2.50 for it. and they take nothing off the bill as i declined the rice/noodles. the bottom line is that for $20 i get a stir fry that is tiny part tofu plus veggies and sauce. I was less than satisfied to put it mildly. the tiny amount of tofu was ridiculous. and charging me for a very limited amount of extra tofu was assinine. and charging me for rice/noodles i didnt want even worse. I wont be back.

just got to the city for the first time since 9/11. NYC tap water is the best in the world. you could easily bottle it and sell a lot of it. better than any bottled water out there. cant wait to get back-- for the water.

Horseradish question

i was watching them make fresh horseradish @ The Pickle Guys on the LES in manhattan on sunday. the guy making it wore a gas mask because of the vapors from the radish. it seemed as fresh as could be. seemed 100 per cent pure with no additives.

why so confusing to pay @ katz deli

they give you an orange ticket. you have to hang onto it or you will be executed. if you want to pay with cash you go to the front door cashier. by credit card: to these guys standing at the back counter. whoever serves you food has to mark up the ticket-- waiter or guy at counter. but you dont pay them. BTW i loved the katz pastrami. sensational. best in nyc.

Learning how to use a slow cooker

the question is: to be used in conjunction with a slow cooker, does a recipe have to be specifically "formulated" for the slow cooker?. do i need to look for recipes specifically intended for slow cooking? what makes a recipe suitable for a slow cooker??
