Need help w/ 2 dinners in Atlanta
Your research is good as I agree with your choices although I haven't tried Globe. Ecco is in Midtown, so if geography matters, Peasant Bistro is in walking distance. You could walk across Centennial Park and be there in 10 minutes from Peachtree Center. I have eaten at the Bistro more than a dozen times and while they are newer than Ecco, their menu is much more diverse; I find the food awesome. Also, the window seating has beautiful views on downtown. If the weather is good, the patio is also very large and you could sit outside. When I ate at Ecco, I reserved for the outside eating and when I arrived they said there were no tables; it's a much smaller area. As for Two Urban Licks, it is loud and also a cab ride away. Bon appetit!
dining in downtown Atlanta
I guess I don't agree with the person who said downtown isn't safe. I am female and I would feel fine walking from your hotel to places downtown, especially the ones near Centennial Park. My favorite new restaurant is the Peasant Bistro. The menu and food are fabulous. The bar is also quite nice for dining and the bartenders are friendly. I hope Benny is there; he'll make you feel at home. Have a good time!
Eating out in downtown Atlanta
Peasant Bistro is great! My favorites are the short ribs, mussels au nage and any fish. The lamb is also great and I love the caesar salad. I've been many times since it's so close to my neighborhood (Candler Park). Valet parking makes it easy. It's right on Centennial Park by the Aquarium.
Must eat places in Atlanta
I just posted about eating at Peasant Bistro, a new place that opened last Tuesday downtown. Check it out. Fab bistro food and great drinks and wine list. peasantatl.com. If you like Repast, Shaun's and Rathbun's, you'll like this.
Peasant Bistro downtown
Peasant Bistro opened this past Tuesday and I predict it is going to be one of Atlanta's top restaurants. It's owned by the Pleasant Peasant folks (an Atlanta classic located near the Fox on Peachtree St.) and is located downtown on Centennial Park in the Luckie Marietta District. It has a hip yet very warm and inviting ambiance, and the food is top notch. Check out the menus and the site at peasantatl.com. It's open 7 days, lunch and dinner. The owner said valet parking will start this week, so no parking woes. Our table had duck confit, bouillabaisse, lamb tagine, short ribs, incredible mussels, the best Caesar salad ever (the romaine is lightly grilled), ginger panna cotta and this cute "shake and cookies" dessert. It really is true bistro food. If you haven't been downtown in a while, check it out; lots is happening there.
Eating near Fox Theatre Atlanta
here's an FYI on Peasant Bistro: it's set to open in early February and is located across from Centennial Park near Ruth Chris Steak and Embassy Suites. The other restaurants closer to the Fox owned by the same owners are Pleasant Peasant and Mick's. PP has been there since 1974, so if you're new to ATL, check it out. They have great food and ambience.
