Looking for a comfortable, delicious, not-too-expensive place to take out-of-town guests for an early dinner before a performance at 37 Arts. Should be pretty near the theater, and if possible the walk to the theater should avoid the seamier blocks around there. I've seen recommendations here for West Bank Cafe, Le Madeleine, and Market Cafe (though folks mention the less-than-perfect setting of Market Cafe). Any other recommendations? Thanks! |

good beer & good food for dinner with visiting Brit? Turns out our cousin is coming back through here in a couple of weeks, so it looks like we'll take him to Blind Tiger then. He also went to Whole Foods, of all places, and found a treasure trove of bottled microbrewery beers. Thanks again for all your suggestions. |

good beer & good food for dinner with visiting Brit? Waterfront Ale House (manhattan, just 'cause it was easier on a rainy night) was a great success! Very friendly, helpful service; food was very tasty, atmosphere surprisingly comfortable and low-key, and the beer selection intrigued and pleased the British cousin. Thanks to all for your recommendations! |

good beer & good food for dinner with visiting Brit? Beer-loving cousin is coming in from London, and we're taking him to dinner Monday night. He'd like to sample "good" (he is skeptical) American microbrewery beers. We'll have our 19-year-old son with us, who would like to sample the beers too, but won't be able to, so we need a place for good, adventurous beers, good food, and fun atmosphere. ANYwhere in Manhattan will do. |
