ISO: Ridiculously Good Chinese (Poughkeepsie)

There isn't anything in Poughkeepsie that compares with Twisted Soul.

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 2009

Does anyone know what they're serving at the Kittle House or 121?

Fish market?

Mt. Kisco Seafood is the real deal. Fabulously fresh and the guys who work there know what they're doing.

Bedford Post Inn

It's on Rt. 121. If you're driving from North Salem, it's on the right, right after the intersection for Rt. 137. I'm not sure if it's Bedford or Pound Ridge.

Thai Takes Putnam

I just returned from the new Thai place in Carmel and was pleasantly surprised. It doesn't look like much, but I'm so excited to have a new place- and Thai no less- that I risked it.

We ordered two things- the Crispy Paad Thai and the Tamarind Duck. Both were yummy. They have a more traditional Paad Thai, but we wanted something different. This was made with fried egg noodles rather than steamed rice noodles and the sauce was delicious. The duck was very crispy and not fatty at all. The sauce was something of a sweet and sour but more interesting than you might expect. While there, there was a table for 3 who were also very happy with their food. (It looked like they all ordered curries. I should have asked.)

I'm not saying this is the best Thai food around, but it's absolutely good enough for a quick dinner or tasty lunch which is more than I can say of plenty of other Thai places in Westchester/Putnam/Danbury.

I vote for Thai Angels.

Also, I just went to Golden Thai in Carmel. They opend 2 weeks ago and the food was good. Not the best in the area, but definately somewhere to return.

Try Thai Angels in Mt. Kisco. The food was really wonderful and the women who own the place are warm and hospitable. We've enjoyed ourselves every time we've gone.

I cook Asian often and get my ingredients from Mt. Kisco Farm or online at Penzys Spices or Adrianna's Caravan.

Cafe of Love...Finally, great food hits Mount Kisco!!!

I'm going to chime in with a mixed review.

There are real reasons to visit this restaurant. The bread bar is a stroke of genius and each of the three meals I've had there (2 dinners and a lunch) were good. The short rib/ fillet combination was to die for. Both pieces of meat were tender and tasty and I liked the puree it was served with so much I'd have picked up the plate to lick the last bits. The farmhouse salad lacked focus, but was fresh and delicious. I ordered it with shrimp which were supposed to be grilled but weren't which was disappointing. I also ordered the hamburger once which I have to say I didn't completely understand. I saw that it said "stuffed with brisket" which I thought was clever, but in the end it was just odd. For $16, this was one of my least favorite hamburgers in the area. (Blazer Pub is still on top.) I ordered the french fries with 3 sauces as an appetizer which tasted wonderful, but were really just good fries and they cost $9 which was a little out of line. Two of the sauces were great, one was bland. If this was a side order for $4 or $5, I'd be raving, but it didn't quite do it for me at $9.

The prices in general are, like so many places in Northern Westchester, about 20% higher than they should be. I've now gone 3 times to see what I really thought (I eat out often) and I'm moving this place down on the list because I can't quite justify the cost. The food is better than plenty of other places, but not good enough that I'll want to pay that bill too often. A few changes, though, and I'd be a regular.

The Flying Pig on Lexington

I had a business lunch at the new pig a few weeks ago and have to say it wasn't terribly good. My colleague sent hers back because she had ordered a salad and added chicken breast for a price and they gave her 4 small pieces of chicken. She's a small woman but finished the salad and said she was still hungry. I also had a salad which was a little better than hers, but not great. Nonetheless, the bill was big. Other places in the area are also expensive, but the quality of the food is better.
