Crispo, the pasta sucks

Crispo - Awful food. What happened?

Thank you COrrico, I too had my one and only meal at Crispo and was very very disappointed if you look at my thread "and the winners are" I think Pasta is way to rate an Italian restaruant and if the pasta is bad (which is was at Crispo) I am sure this is not a good place. I ate better pasta at a place which is rated bad on Zagat and even my hotel. Pepe Rosso and they had WAY better pasta than Crispo for a fraction of the price. The service at Crispo was fine but I am suspect where they put us. Way way in the back and I noticed the people way way in the back near the nice fireplace where either ethnic, not dressed up, or ok, acting weird, not us lol Can this be true? The lady next to us, was moving her chair around all during the meal, me and my daughter were dressed up but in old jackets from the 80's as I live in Hawaii. Well, never again. Peopolino was superb. Crispo only meat and buffalo Mozzarela were good. Pasta yuck!

AND FOR DINNER, THE WINNER'S ARE

Pepolino's is great again. Wondeful, terrific back to where it was in the beginning. I loved everything. So did my daughter. Grammercy tavern well, for the wine and the service and the ambience great, the food. very small. and just ok, to me. good desert though and not too expensive
I am sorry to say for me Crispo was a disappointment. I don't eat the Buffalo Mozzarella, my daughter says it was great, but the pasta, the rice balls and especially the pasta sauce like Ragu. The salad was good, but you can almost get good salad anywhere in NY. I liked the pasta better at Pepe rosso on ave C better than Crispo, though service was pretty bad.
I should have went to Cesca. but all in all great food.
I did eat in Katz though I said I wouldn't and the pastrami was great, matzoh ball soup, just ok , To me no one can beat Carnegie deli on that.
Florent was good for dinner, but I don't like fries no matter how good they are. I think their breakfast might be good.A guy licked my hand there yuck. Well I shall return to try my other picks and any I think of here. I could not eat as much as I wanted due to all the french toast lol. I did not gain more than a few pounds. Man people can walk in NYC up and down the stairs etc. It was cooold. Aloha

AND THE WINNER'S ARE: MY NYC TRIP

I just came back from my NYC trip to find the perfect french toast. (only half kidding) and the winner is Clinton Street Bakery served plain. I ate french toast every day for 12 days and half of my daughters order. So, I ate omlettes, bagels and lox etc but always french toast. I also liked 9th street markets. I did not like, " Taste" that much and it was expensive and Sarabeth's was just ok. Oh, they were all better than I can get here but I really did not like Penelope's because the bread was just an ordinary thin raisin bread I could do myself. I still miss Jerry's. But for service CSB was horrible. Even on a weekday, the service and crowds were horrible. I am looking forward to my next trip and any other places you suggest. look for my dinner winner's in another post.

Have a res at Crispo this weekend - What should I order?

My first rice ball was in Brooklyn on 18th ave in Bensonhurst and I was hooked. So, even pretty good rice balls at Crispo and the rest of the wonderful menu sounds yummy. Spaghatti and meatballs sounds Southern Italy though.

Pizza in NYC

I was brought up on Brooklyn pizza. Jerry's wasthe place and he had a small place but expanded and stayed there for ages. It really was not that good looking back but bad NY pizza is better than any other to me. Best pizza I ate in my life was Domino's in Japan. NO kidding. They have pizza that is not salty, real Italian and is Domino's in name only. Cono Pizza in Brooklyn is good and they also have a good menu with real Southern Italian food I love. L train to Graham ave. sorry wrong thread but you can take the girl out of Brooklyn but not Brooklyn out of the girl

Have a res at Crispo this weekend - What should I order?

My res is next weekend, my long waited vacation. My daughter lived in Italy so she would love the buffalo mozzarela but I am going for the rice balls and if they have a nice meat sauce pasta let me know. I don't like creamy stuff. I might even order steak or lamb. Suggestions for a simple eater? at Crispo

Is Chelsea Market worth a trip

For me an native NYer, the whole meatbacking district is a new tourist attraction as is Soho and all th oh's but I don't really like Soho except the buildings. I actually never heard of the Nabisco factory but I really hate the idea of a busload of Euros cause they can come here and I can't afford to go there. lol I wanted to go to the milk place but think I will go to Lexington candy for a real malted. Hey UES mayor, don't know if I should be jealous of you or for you to wish you were here Aloha

Is there a best blueberry or corn muffin

I once had a blueberry bran muffin in Minnesota. I don't remember that NY was such a muffin paradise but where is Bird Bath. I used to love NY jelly donuts but that was pre dunkin donuts. but can't go there anymore, not dunkin but donuts lol

Is Chelsea Market worth a trip

I am a native now living in Hawaii visiting Ny with my list of CH restaurants and a few of my old faves. Is CM worth it for anything. Never been. I heard there is a malted milk there from my childhood. My Lexington Candy has the same thing. Am I wasting a day?

Pizza in NYC

I am a New Yorker over 50 who was brought up on slices. Who could afford a whole pie for a small family? So, I can say I hate Lomabardi was not thrilled by Grimaldis or Johns, but I hear Adrienne downtown is good and will try una pizza Napolitano but I heard it is very expensive. I will be in town next week so I am hoping for a good slice somwhere not burnt, not greasy, just tasty

Yonah Schimmel is a disgrace

Carnegie Deli's knishes are round and pretty good. I remember when I was a kid, my mom used to sneak the vendor knish in the movies and it was good to me. Being out of NY for so long. I did go to YS twice and had to thow it out, burned and tasted terrible. I eat a knish now at Arties Deli and Carnegie when I am in town. My daughter was only 7 when we left, but her knish craving is huge. She can eat the street vendor one with the dirty water frank. I can't anymore. wow12 knishes. I bow to you news joke. I will try Zabars or Mendys' which I never heard of. what about Barney Greengrass do they sell knishes?

Crispo or Supper after theater dinner....

Hey twoblue, I have reservatons pre theatre at Crispo because of the arancini, rice balls which I asked about here. I looked at Supper and Zagat says their pasta is good. but if you are only here three days you don't want to wait on a line. I am coming the 18th. What is JUMP. I am seeing a preview of Gypsy and Jersey boys. so Italian food is good lol If we are hungry after our 5pm empty dining room res, we will go to Florent.

If you were moving out of NY, where would you eat?

crispo vs apizz?

I have a open table reservation at Crispo, my first time. I just liked the menu better, seemd like a more rounded restaurant. I also found it by asking her for arancini and it has it. It seems a bit less expensive to C'esa which had great food but alot of big families and big prices. I hope this will be a good Idea. Now I am thinking of changing to apizz which I never heard of either untiil this board

If you were moving out of NY, where would you eat?

Anne, I have been out of NYC for 30 years and my children beg me for knishes when I go to NY. No one knows and I think you have to be brought up with it because when I bring them here to Hawaii many people don't like them. any suggestions for a good knishe? I like them potato like, my kids say even a vendor street knish is better than no knish

Grammercy Tavern or Gotham Bar and Grill

I am looking for both food quality and atmosphere. I hear that you can eat reasonably for lunch at Gotham Prix fix lunch or at the Tavern part of Grammercy. Which would be a better splurge for my adult daughter in terms of food, fun and ambience . Have not been to either. Thanks

9th street market

I hear that the brunch has a fantastic brioche french toast. I don't know what brioche french toast is and don't want to waste my one weekend brunch if it is too fancy. I like old fashioned eggy but not fancy, stuffed or too fruity. Can someone describe it as they don't have a menu
