You can get Carne Asada Fries everywhere, but i'm looking for Chili Fries. Who has the best chili fries in San Diego?

Lunch spots in Simi Valley

Hello:

My co-workers and I are stuck in Simi Valley for a few months on our latest project.

There seems to be nothing but fast food, chain restaurants and disappointments out here. Can anyone suggest anything decent?

Thanks,

Soot Bull Jeep

Just don't go when it's busy.

One time i saw a waitress there trying to push some people out the door. She decided to put the chicken on the grill and i saw the juice/marinade drip into a guy's beer.

I don't ever let them touch my meat anymore.

Whom has a better Prime Rib than Lawrys

The Stinking Rose, right across the street has great Prime Rib.

It's a few bucks less and I can't tell of any difference in quality.

How about The Ivy for lunch?

Not a very good deal.

It's a tourist trap

How about Mr.Chow?

I think this place is one of those places you take out of towners to, because they've heard of it some where and they want to go.

Best Burger in Los Angeles

I discovered it this year, I love the burgers at 25 Degrees. Cooked to order on a soft, moist, greasy bun, nothing like it.

Sushi Ko at The Lakes in Thousand Oaks

If it is related, it's probably related to the California Roll and Sushi chain as well.

Both Sushi Ko California Roll and Sushi and serve the "new Korean style" sushi, which is a whole mess of "creative" rolls

Best Steakhouse in Downtown LA?

I don't know why people think so highly of Pacific Dining Car, it's all hype. You get the same badly cooked, lukewarm steak and miserable sides that you got at the Morton's in Palm Desert. The only positive i can think of is that it's open all the time.

I'd go with Nick and Stef's if you want to be in downtown or Taylor's.

The L. A. Burger Hunt Map

Best burgers i've had this year is at 25 Degrees, followed by The Hungry Cat and Father's Office.

The burger at 25 Degrees is on another level from anythign i've ever had, cooked to order, so juicy, but the fries and onion rings suck.

Father's office has more texture, but the carmelized onions overwhelms some of the other flavors, but they have awesome sweet potato fries. I'd go just for the fries.

Hungr Cat's Pug Burger is similar to the Father's Office burger but without the onions.

Camarillo/Oxnard Area Dinner Recs

I've been having to go to that area for the past 5 years to visit the in-laws and i swear the most consistent places for dinner are the Soup Plantation and Woodranch BBQ in Camarillo.

There's an excellent seafood place in the Channel Islands Harbor Fisherman's Wharf named HC Seafood, but i think they close at 6.

Thousand Oaks

You can also do Pickles in Newbury Park. It's pretty much the same thing.

Thousand Oaks

I don't know, even Mastro's is more gimmicky than good food. It's gonna be a long time.

It's just a CPK, Cheesecake Factory, and Pat and Oscars crowd out there.

Sisley at the Mall is crap italian food.

All the places you mentioned leave alot to be desired.

Great Eats in Camarillo??

Have low expectations, there's not much here. I think it's worth the drive the coast to the seafood spots in Oxnard and Ventura, like HC Seafood in the Channel Islands harbor.

Strawberry Festival in Oxnard (May 20, 21) ... is it worth going?

LOL

I went to this about 3 years ago after my temporary moment of insanity when i decided to move to Thousand Oaks.

Words can't describe how much of a waste of time it was (only second to my 2 years in Thousand Oaks)

Maestro's (Thousand Oaks?)

Just skip it.

It's just an even more gimmicky Ruth's Chris, so gimmicky that they kill the taste of the meat. Why not just go to the Ruth's Chris in Woodland Hills.

The Ivy

I think you have to go no matter what people think about the food.

It's almost like Disneyland, I have to take out of towners there so they can say they've been there.

Steak in OC -- Flemming's, Ruth's Chris, Morton's or?

The one in Irvine is something else. I was there a few months after a work event in the area on a Friday. With all the exotic cars in the lot and the hour that they were behind on reservations, it was evident that it was the only place in town.

It doesn't have the normal clubby atmosphere of a chophouse, and the staff doesn't come close (probably kids from UC Irvine), but the food was still good.

The E&E Cafe

You might not have missed anything. he place had a very small menu. Only thing i can rememeber are Curry and Cold Noodle dishes, i don't remmeber them having any ramen, udon, or sushi

Wedding Cake

I saw Cake Divas the other day on the Food Network. They looked amazing and they can do anything.

Only thing that would hold me back are the prices.

If your parents love seafood, do Providence.

If they want menu with other options go Patina.

ALL You Can Eat Korean BBQ?

I recommend Mu Dung San, It's got good meat, prices aren't bad and the service is decent (you're not gonna find good service in K-town)

I don't like the owner at Soot Bul Guirim, so i don't go there anymore. If she doesn't think you're eating fast enough (she sees customers waiting for a table, $$$), she starts putting your meat on your grill and pushes you out the door.

Strawberry Festival in Oxnard (May 20, 21) ... is it worth going?

If you go, go early.

Most of the festival is on a dirt lot. By the middle of the day, it's just a big dust bowl.

A minute after i got my Strawberry funnel cake, the whipped cream was covered with dirt.
