Alabama (Mostly) Eats

I like the atmosphere there a lot and the beers they brew are pretty good. I like their Tiger Tail Ale. The food has been on a steady decline but I haven't eaten there in awhile so maybe its gotten better. I really like Mike and Ed's Barbecue in Auburn if your looking for barbecue. Its very laid back but I'm not sure if they serve beer, I would guess no. But it is close to all the downtown bars if you want to get a beer after dinner.

Looking for special occasion reco in Charleston

I recently just took my first trip Charleston and spent hours researching restaurants and found it really overwhelming. I was looking for places that had really good food and reflected the atmosphere of Charleston without being touristy. I had Fig, Peninsula grill and Fat Hen (not in the historic district) for dinner while I was there and really enjoyed all of them. As far as the not touristy thing, I don't really know because I was a tourist. But I think as far a quality of food you'll have a hard time of going wrong because Charleston is a really great town for eating. The only thing about Peninsula Grill I didn't like is where we were seated we could hear everything the couples next to us were saying and therefore felt self conscious. A local I sort of know took his girlfriend to Magnolia's for her birthday if that helps any.

Alabama (Mostly) Eats

In Auburn - Hamilton's (in downtown) and Amsterdam cafe are near downtown. The Yellowhammer is a little ways off 280 (if your taking 280 from Birmingham to Auburn) in Waverly not far from Auburn. Niffers in Auburn is more hamburgers, sandwiches, that kind of thing and is casual local place. Good but not outstanding. There is Provino's italian restaurant off I-85 Exit 57. Its decent Italian food. Nothing to write home about. Ariccia (spelling?) in the Auburn Hotel and Conference center last time I ate there was great but I haven't been there in a while. I realize most of that is stuff in Auburn and not really on the way from Birmingham or to Atlanta. If I think of anything else off 280 or 85 I'll let you know. Hope that helps.

Where do I eat in Charleston?!?!

We did eat FIG and loved it. We had Jestines for lunch today because it is close to where we are staying and it was pouring rain. We really liked it but I think I still have my heart set on Gullah cuisine. We are going to try Fat Hen for dinner tomorrow I think. We've decided to skip Jim and Nicks and all BBQ for that matter because we're from AL and GA so we've had prettty good BBQ and used to that type of BBQ. Thanks for the help!!!

Just looking for more ideas about places to eat on Sunday night and lunch spots. Eating at FIG tonight and Peninsula Grill tomorrow night. And trying to decide between Hominy Grill, Jestines, or Gullah Cuisine. Thanks!

Chicken and dumplings

I usually have trouble with my dumplings falling apart. but I've had more success recently by putting fairly large ones in chicken stock at a low boil and leaving them alone for a few minutes and resist the temptation to poke them to soon. The ones I can keep together come out pretty fluffy. And I use Bisquick too.

Thanks for the help! A friend of mine swears by High Cotton and 82 Queen. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on those as well.

favorite thing to eat from panera?

The Fuji Apple chicken salad is great. I'm not big on salads usually but I love this one.

Moe's - is it just me?

I think I always ate the JC there but only because I felt overwhelmed looking through the menu. After eating it for awhile whatever they seasoned the chicken with got really old to me and now I can stand the smell of the place.

New to Mobile Alabama, Where's The Good Stuff?

You have to try the Dew Drop Inn! Get the hot dog all the way. Noja was good, really enjoyed the duck and had a good wine menu.
