LCBO spring beer release - finally a good release

I agree.

The bitter hit is very strong on this one.

Too bad too, as I ended up buying 6 bottles without trying them first!

Where's the best fried chicken in the GTA ?

I live not far from here and have seen it many times when I shop at PATs

Any specific order you would recommend? Will have to try it out sometime.

Pho in the 905?

Thanks all for the feedback - will have to make note and taste accordingly!

Pho in the 905?

Any suggestions for some Pho in the Richmond Hill area?

I have a hankering for some take-out tonight, and rather than haul to the only decent spot, Pho 88 @ Yonge south of Finch, I figured I would throw it out here and see if anyone could offer suggestions, even along the Hwy 7 corridor.

Global Cheese Kensington Market.

So you are suggesting that a good cheese shop shouldn't smell of cheese?

I don't get it.

While at times I would comment that their 'specials' are anything but old cheeses they failed to sell, often past their prime - more often than not they have a fantastic selection often at good prices (if you know what to get) and very helpful staff.

Fave Dumplings in Markham

Any specific recommendations? For a point of reference, our go-to until this point has been Dumpling King near Yonge & Finch.

Looking for an Allergy Friendly restaurant in Distillery District

A few years ago my SIL had a near death experience at a sushi place that told her they could accommodate her, and needless to say, 911 was called and madness ensued.

She is very cautious, and always wants to know if there are peanuts or peanut products int he kitchen, or at least if they can ensure her that they can accommodate her.

Indeed it is - thanks for the rec. none the less

Not easy to eat with people who have allergies....restaurants are so damn scared.

Looking for an Allergy Friendly restaurant in Distillery District

Just spoke to them - they cannot accommodate a peanut allergy....

Looking for an Allergy Friendly restaurant in Distillery District

Perhaps their online menu doesnt reflect dinner?

Looking for an Allergy Friendly restaurant in Distillery District

Thanks for both suggestions - though Gilead Cafe looks more like a lunch spot than a dinner destination...

Looking for an Allergy Friendly restaurant in Distillery District

We are headed with my SIL down to the distillery district this Saturday and are looking for some suggestions as to restaurants that may be able to accommodate a peanut allergy.

So far Buca, Beer BIstro, and a few others are out of the question, but they also do not want to spend George type money.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bazaar on Mt pleasant

I'm surprised that LTH lasted as long as they did quite frankly.

Great to hear that there will be another option (though unqualified) near my office!

Pho in the 905

Fantastic! Thank you both (et all) - will have to try these two out to compare.

Pho in the 905

We are going to have to try Kim Po out then as it's not terribly far....

As an aside, any idea if they use fish sauce in their stock? Any specific items they do particularly well?

Pho in the 905

Interesting....your intriciate detail is swaying me there....I can almost feel the drag! Perhaps thats where i will go in the near future?

Any idea if they use fish sauce in their pho? My wife is allergic and I must exercise caution.

Is it true then, that the 'area of hills' lacks any good pho!?

Pho in the 905

Getting tired of the excessive MSG in Pho 88's Pho, and was curious (as I am sure they are out there....just where!?) as to some suggestions for Pho in the Thornhill / Richmondhill area.

Cheers

Dim Sum near Yonge & Steeles

Legend - thats it.

Thanks TB, may have to check it out one of these days. Any particular dishes worth mention that you recall?

Dim Sum near Yonge & Steeles

There is a restaurant in the same plaza as the PAT's and Nino da Versa (just north of Steeles, on the east side) that serves dim sum, and from what I have recently observed, seems fairly busy.

The name eludes me, but for some reason I believe there is something with either 'John' or 'Legend' in it.

Has anyone been? Is it worth a visit? Any specific stand-outs?

ISO Bulk Sweet Apple Cider (without preservatives)

I would love to hear about how you make your cider...

Moving to Thornhill - Looking for some local recommendations please!

I have seen this place when shopping at PAT, but as you mentioned, it was VERY unassuming from outside!

I do enjoy fried chicken though, may have to try it out.

There is also a dim sum place in the same plaza (same stretch) that seems fairly busy often, curious if anyone has tried it.

Best Pho- Markham

I too would be interested in some suggestions, even closer to the Thornhill area.

The MSG at Pho 88 is getting to me!!!

PHO without MSG

I too am curious about this - more so focused on restaurants closer to Thorn/Richmond hill though.

Looking for a (relatively) close Seafood supplier!

I am guessing you are referring to T&T? I have heard good things about their seafood - never tried it though. As an aside, the thought of buying meat from them scares me.

Yes, leaving the 'hood'....*big sigh*.....the trade-off however; is a backyard backing onto a forest/ravine - I will take serenity any day!

Looking for a (relatively) close Seafood supplier!

stupid double post....

Looking for a (relatively) close Seafood supplier!

After having moved from Avenue & Lawrence up to Yonge & Clarke, City Fish is no longer as easy to get to as it once was.

As a follow-up to my previous Thornhill request thread, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a reliable (and fresh) seafood monger up in the new 'hood.

A butcher as well, would be a huge bonus!

What is truly the best restaurant in Toronto?

It is interesting as to the number of people who still classify the 'new' Splendido as the top restaurant in the city.

The last time I was there (a few months back) we put in a special order for sweet breads, as my grandmother is a huge fan.

I am not sure whether the chef decided to offload them to one of his cohorts, but they were not cleaned whatsoever, and were vastly overcooked.

A subsequent near fall over one of their "purse chairs" was rewarded with a "Oh yes, those things will get you!"

Granted they handled the follow-up letter properly and promptly, but still, not something one would expect from the 'old' Splendido, let alone the city's top restaurant.

best bakery?? midtown or downtown?

It linked it automatically - I have only been to the one on Bayview.

best bakery?? midtown or downtown?

Not sure how Jo said YUCK to Mad Italian - considering it has some of the best Pistachio and Hazelnut gelato outside of Italy.

Far superior to Hollywood IMO.

Diana's Seafood opening restaurant

As Poppi mentioned below, this is not just a 'simply seafood' restaurant.

Not sure if you have been out west, but there is a little place opposite Granville Island in Vancouver called Go Fish that does simple, amazingly prepared seafood, at reasonable prices.

Based on location, and current menu and prices, the long term outlook for this place is somewhat grim.
