The Butcher and the Baker in Telluride, CO

We just returned from a ski trip to Telluride, CO and had several very tasty lunches at a new cafe/bakery in Telluride, The Butcher and the Baker (on Colorado Ave). They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner (M-Sat 7-7) and brunch on Sunday. They have four different sandwiches daily, 1-2 soups, salads, pastries and entrees to go (soups by the quart, roasted meats, etc.) and most are organic and locally sourced. They just opened in January and are doing very well with just the locals and word-of-mouth (the ski guide at the nearby nordic ski center told us about it). Apparently the plan is to open a full butcher shop, but they can barely keep up with the demand with just the cafe and bakery. I'm looking forward to re-visiting in the near future to see how the business grows.

221 South Oak in Telluride, CO

We just had dinner there on Sunday. The fried oyster appetizer was delicious, as was the elk chop. Service was professional, informed and efficient. Much preferred 221 S. Oak over Cosmo.

Restaurant Recommendations for San Luis Obsipo

Are you looking for fine dining? wine lists? type of food? In San Luis Obispo itself:

Breakfast: Louisa's (in Downtown, on Higuera, near Osos), McClintock's (further down Higuera), Big Sky Cafe (on Broad)

Lunch/Brunch: Firestone's Grill (casual burger, ribs, salads; on Higuera), Novo (also for dinner, 726 Higuera), Woodstock Pizza (on Higuera and Osos); Mee Heng Low Noodle House (815 Palm Street, next to Palm Theater; dinner too)

Dinner: Koberl at Blue (Monterey and Osos), Novo, Buona Tavolo (Italian; on Monterey by the Fremont theater), Ciopinot (seafood, on 1051 Nipomo)

Hopefully, this can give some places to look at and see if they fit your budget and tastes. Good luck! Have fun visiting.

Best Burger Spots on the Central Coast

Have you tried Sylvester's in Los Osos (it's at 1099 Santa Ynez)...definitely a locals spot, few Poly students there.

Cayucos

You may also want to try Cass House, also on Ocean Avenue. It has a nice prix fixe menu, and even grows some of their own produce on the property. Knowledgeable staff and a nice selection of wines.

The Best Thing You Ever Ate: New Orleans

It's back on the menu as of September 1st; my husband had it at dinner...it was the best foie gras appetizer he ever had, including France.

NY foodie coming to New Orleans looking for CANT miss places- Help me with my itinerary please

I have to second R&O's (Metairie/Lakeview area) for their Roast Beef po-boy as well as their shrimp po-boy. Antoher don't miss (as a quintessential NOLA experience) is beignets and coffee at Cafe du Monde, at night (preferably Fri or Sat), for watching people and listening to some great music; we heard some great performers playing in front of CdM a couple of weekends ago. It was a great memory to take away from our visit.

Rate These Restaurants

Emeril's --wear at least a sport coat (guys) and a nice dress/skirt/slacks (gals)
Commander's--dress up (dinner, I've not been there for lunch)...I'm a casual gal all the way, but Commander's for dinner was completely worth dressing up for. We went for my birthday; service was fantastic, Tia Martin visited all of the tables to check on everyone's meals and to say "Hi" and we even got a chance to visit the kitchen and meet Chef Tory (it was a Tuesday, not a crazy busy Saturday or Sunday). And yes, the Creole Bread Pudding Souffle with whisky sauce is worth every single calorie!

We've just come back from a week in NOLA and I'm jealous of your list...my husband is already planning on calling Central Grocery and have them overnight some muffulettas out to CA for an upcoming party.

Food Itinerary for New Orleans Trip in October

Acme Oyster may be better; we just returned from NOLA (had a great time, especially with Southern Decadence going on at the time!) and did a comparison between Felix's and Acme...ordered a dozen raw & shrimp po-boys at Felix's, then went across the street to Acme and ordered the same. The oysters at Felix's were pre-shucked and dried out (had that funky film on it from having sat), while the oysters at Acme were freshly shucked (even though we sat a table instead of the bar), briny and clean. Our son's girlfriend used to handle oysters (and could outshuck the "boys" at the seafood restaurant that she worked at in LA) and knows well-shucked/freshly shucked good oysters.

Great Food in a scenic setting on PCH between LA and Monterey

If you are driving up the coast along Hwy 1 (getting off 101 at San Luis Obispo) consider Cass House Inn in Cayucos. It is a romantic small renovated home with a great restaurant for dinner with very good prices. About a 4 hour drive from LA and a great take off point to drive along Big Sur the following day.
