Thinking of moving from Brooklyn, NY to Austin--what would I be in for, foodwise?
I used to live in NYC and Austin is quickly becoming a little Brooklyn (think more Park Slope, however), but I think this is a great thing. Many many NY'ers have moved here and are continuing to move here as well so you won't be alone.

There is also a new cheese shop opening on Lamar called Henri's.
If Austin doesn't have it, just a short wait and it will come.
Austin Food & Wine Festival
Are there tickets available only to the sunday fair... given that they are still having it... or do you have to buy tickets for the whole thing?
The Old Fashioned at Smoke/Belmont Bar
It.is.amazing! We are trying to re-create because we are in Austin, otherwise we'd go to the source...
I know there is cherry brandy, orange bitters, regular bitters and I think rye and maybe something else. Anyone know the ingredients?

Dinner for 2 Girlfriends- fun but really good food (near Strip)
We are staying on the strip but like good food and don't want an overpriced celeb-chef stamped restaurant- unless it IS actually good and not bland. We'd like to go to the Wynn/Encore but are open. Thoughts?
Thank you
Oh no! Not Pinos!
I know! I am only hoping that they use this opportunity to spruce up the place but to do it quickly (and open)!
Navy beans- soaked two night now smell HORRID!
no, they were sitting out... in Texas. Heck, they are cheap. I think I'll just toss them and start over.
Navy beans- soaked two night now smell HORRID!
(things are oriental, people are asian, but yes, it does sound strange; and I was referring to the fishy, dried smell... I love the contents, however)
Navy beans- soaked two night now smell HORRID!
So I intended to make them yesterday but after swimming and spending time in the sun I was worn out. I took the lid off of them this morning after they had been soaking for 2 nights and they smelled like dirty diapers, oriental market, portapotty- you name it but the smell was TERRIBLE! I rinsed them very well and added new water and they are now simmering. Do you know if they are bad (I tasted one and it was ok) or will they be fine after I make them into boston baked beans?
Dominick's/Ciola's Closed!
I'm so sad-- no more lasagna! I understand there is a message on the door stating something about unpaid rent...
"Stuffed" ----Cajun Meat Market
Had the pork chops stuffed w/ cornbread recently and was disappointed in the amount of salt in the brine that they used. It distracted from the flavor and left them almost inedible. They need to revisit the brine recipe.
24 diner
Haven't been but isn't the chef up for Best Chef or something in Food and Wine
RIP part III: Austin Restaurant Closings
I will miss Chango's and their yummy aqua de fresca. I'm so sad...
I have 24 hours in Austin, what's your favorite breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
This is solid list-- cannot disagree!
Christmas Day Restaurant Options in San Antonio?
Thinking of coming in from Austin and looking for a nice Christmas dinner/late lunch option. Looking for atmosphere but also great food. Any suggestions?
Martha's Turkey or Chicken Skin Glaze?
No, when I saw the title I thought so but this recipe imparted a nice golden brown color. I thought it was slightly sweet as well. Thank you though!
Martha's Turkey or Chicken Skin Glaze?
I know that at some point Martha had a recipe and/or show for how to create the perfect finish for your turkey or roast chicken. I've looked through her site but don't see anything that rings a bell. I thought she used the term mahogany but the mahogany recipe listed isn't it. I realize this is a vague question but I am hoping someone else knows what I'm talking about.
Local Foods- Fried Chicken, Pies, etc. in the Gettysburg, Hanover, Littletown area?
Ideally an Amish place and/or family style but totally open. I hope to hit something this Wednesday 11/14. Thanks!
Hanover area suggestions?
So ideally I'd like some kind of traditional fried chicken-pie-amish place but I know many of them are an hour or so away. Anything closer to the Hanover or Gettyberg area that we should check out while in town?
Thank you

Did I see a Bombay Bistro going in on south Lamar and 290/71? I think there is a Pei Wei and Sun Harvest also in the area.

Quality Seafood- Sustainable/Wild?
Does anyone know about the quality at Quality Seafood? I'm fairly particular in regards to only consuming seafood that is sustainable, caught wild and not farm raised. Wondering about the sources of their products.
Thanks!

Help! Need a "moderate" dinner near Palazzo tonight
Thanks everyone. We ended up at B&B and were underwhelmed for the price. It was ok. I used to live by Lupa and was unimpressed by that too so perhaps I just fail to appreicate Batali.
Help! Need a "moderate" dinner near Palazzo tonight
We are staying in the Palazzo and looking for a moderate dinner with co-workers. I'm not looking for top tiers like Alex, Cut, etc. but some place really good (next tier down or so) either in Palazzo/Venetian or in one of the nearby properties. We are open to type of food as long as it is really good. Thank you!
