I hear ya! I couldn't find anything online for them as far as a menu, etc. |

Has anyone been to Central Kitchen recently (2011). How is it? I was thinking of going there w/ my mom on Saturday. I'd love to hear some feedback from recent visits. ----- |

I think Petsi's Pies also has Iggy's croissants. I love their butter croissants (Iggy's) and will be psyched to see them at the farmers' market. |

Coffee Shop/Wine Bar for Book Club Meeting Trident Cafe on Newbury Street has coffee and wine and a bookstore. They used to advertise part of the cafe space for meetings, so maybe give them a call and find out if they can accommodate you. |

I too would probably send back a bad item, but as Runningmom states, they were already waiting a long time for their meal and sometimes, it's not worth it to have to wait even longer for it to be corrected. In my friend's case w/ her charred pizza, we had no time to wait around after we'd waited forever for our food and trying to even flag down a manager was moot because the staff was not being all that attentive...it would've made us late to try to do that. I guess the other option is to go back the next day or call and say something about it, but who knows. I have been in that position before though where sending something back wasn't feasible at the time. |

I too like charred as well, but no, the pies you show are not what this pie was. It was charred as in black as in if you picked up the prosciutto and bit into it it was practically ash. No exaggeration either. |

I was excited to go to this place because of wonderful reviews I had heard. I have to say, my experience was just "meh." Perhaps they were having an off night. I might go back another time to find out. Anyhow, we were seated. Shortly after, our drink orders, app orders were taken. I hate when this happens, but our app orders came out well before our drinks. They had also failed to give us plates to eat the apps on so we had to flag down the server to ask about the drinks and if we could get plates for the apps. Our drinks came about 5 minutes later, but the plates came sooner, thankfully. We ordered the calamari which was excellent and we ordered the olives which were excellent as well. My friends and I ordered a glass each of the Lambrusco and it was wonderful. Onto dinner... I ordered the mushroom pizza, my friend ordered one w/ prosciutto and my other friend ordered the sausage pizza. My mushroom pizza was just "ok." It wasn't very flavorful. I've had better. My friend who had the pizza w/ prosciutto wasn't impressed...her pizza or actually the prosciutto on the pizza was charred in many places. By charred, I mean black to the point of inedible. Must have left it under the fire too long. My other friend said her sausage pizza was just ok too, but that the cheese on it was excellent. While our server was very nice, we barely saw her and actually had to flag her down or flag someone down to help us. Again, perhaps it was just an off night. I wouldn't write this place off as of yet, but I'm not in a rush to return either. |

Good Bar/Food in Cambridge or Brookline Russell House Tavern in Harvard Square is good. I know they have the bar upstairs and I want to say there's also one downstairs. ----- |

Looking for feedback on Deuxave I remember in college in the 90s there was a place called Baci's in that location. They sold coffee, food, wine. Owners were NOT nice. |

Only 1 good Italian Restaurant in Cambridge and no French Restaurants at all I disagree as well. Sandrine's is good as is Rialto and Dante. I've heard great things about Craigie on Main & Chez Henri. ----- Craigie on Main Sandrine's |

Who has consistently fresh and nice Asian greens (Cambridge/Belmont/Watertown area)? Drat! The Harvard U. Farmers' Market has a Hmong (sp?) farmer stand and they sell excellent Asian greens, and their prices are wonderful. The problem is, the Harvard U. Farmers' Market's last day was on Tuesday. Perhaps they frequent other farmers' markets in the area? |

I have still got to go to Shay's! I've wanted to go there but just haven't yet. |

I second Russell House Tavern. It's an excellent place. Grafton Street is decent--Russell House is far better, however. For Chinese cuisine I like Yenching. The food is good and the people are nice. ----- |

Looking for bistro-ish dinner Friday-- Back Bay/Kenmore area You could do Petit Robert Bistro which is just a few doors down from Eastern Standard in Kenmore Square. ----- Petit Robert Bistro |

Ah...I see. Well, if you like a certain pizza place, go in and ask them for some dough. The worst they can do is say no. Most places will sell it to you though. |
|
|
If I'm in a pinch and don't have time to make my own, I'll use Trader Joe's pizza dough. It's good and 99 cents for a ball. ----- |

I'll definitely have to check it out. I missed them when Geoffrey's moved out of Back Bay, but I am glad they are back. I always liked them! |

South End Chef Boots Whiny Patron Thought this was interesting and wanted to share. In my opinion, this diner should have been kicked out. What do you all think? Also, how has Tremont 647 been lately? It's been years since I've been. Updates on the food/service would be good. http://bit.ly/9VCtQa ----- |

Actually, we did end up going to Sandrine's because it is close to my house and by the time we wanted to go to dinner, we didn't feel like T-ing anywhere. We had a delicious meal & I would definitely go back! ----- |
|
|
All great suggestions! Has anyone been to Sandrine's at all? Just curious. Never been there and it's close to my house, but if there are better places to go, then that's fine too. ----- |

Boston Area Potato Salad Recommendations Parish Cafe makes THE BEST potato salad. I know they cater, but wonder if you called and asked them to make you what you needed if they'd do it? Never hurts to call and ask. |

Hi folks. My mom is coming into town and she loves French cuisine. She lives up in Maine, so the selection she has is pretty much nil. At any rate, just looking for some ideas in Boston, Cambridge, Somerville or Brookline for French restaurants that you think are worth going to. We have done Petit Robert and Gaslight in the past so some place we haven't gone together would be good. I also don't wish to go to Mistral as I was there a few weeks ago. Some people suggested Pigalle & Hamersley's. I'd love to hear your ideas! Thanks! ----- |

Where to get tomatillos in Somerville/Cambridge? I saw some at the Harvard U. Farmers' Market. It's on Tuesdays in front of the Science Center at Harvard. |
|
|
What is edible at Tavern in the Square? So sorry you have to go there. :-( Too bad you can't drink. Ha! At any rate, as people have said, you can get some pub grub like a quesadilla or salad and it'll be hard for it to be screwed up. I like the suggestion of eating elsewhere and then getting something really light and saying you had a late lunch. I often do that if I'm forced to go to a restaurant I don't like and really don't want to spend $ at. |

Woodward at Ames--what should I get? Going to dinner w/ friends at Woodward at Ames on Friday night. Wondering what people would recommend on the menu. I can't eat shellfish, but other than that, I can have anything else. |

When Pigs Fly & farmer's markets They are also at the Harvard U. Farmers' Market at the Science Center at Harvard. I bought from them yesterday. They are there every Tuesday. |

New-ish to Cambridge and really tasty: Canteen I agree. Their sandwiches are huge too. I often have enough for 2 days or to split w/ someone. |

They still do many "your sponsor clearly paid for that" stuff. Why do you think Upper Crust is "best pizza" every year and for a long while "Best Margarita" was going to Cactus Club or every year Anna's Taqueria wins best burrito. Hmm, have you noticed Cactus Club doesn't advertise anymore and they haven't won "Best Margarita" in a few years??? Sure they throw in a few non-advertisers to make it seem "legit" but for the most part, it's about the advertisers and those spending big bucks. They'll invent awards for them too just so the clients don't get mad. I worked there and saw the behind the scenes stuff. It'd always bother me that people would criticize Boston Mag, but really, Improper is doing the same thing...they may just throw in a few more non advertisers to throw the reader off. And yes, having judges who owned restaurants...many end up getting awards as a result. ----- |

What does Boston bring to the table? I love Taberna de Haro. I haven't been to Estragon but I consistently hear great things about them. Anyhow, great choices! If you like pies, go to Petsi's Pies. They make some delicious ones! Sure, that's not what Boston is known for, but Petsi's does a great job and has some excellent flavors. Their scones are terrific as well. New England is known for ice cream so definitely check out some ice cream places. In Boston, there's JP Licks. They offer some interesting flavors and some regular standbys. I had Christina's at the Harvard U. Farmers' Market and it was quite good. Toscanini's is another one. My favorite ice cream is out of the city though at Kimballs in Westford, MA. There's always Durgin Park for a Boston experience. There are certain things I like there, and others not much at all. The Indian pudding is good though. ----- |

I'll have to try Rosenfeld's sometime, but Newton is far for me just to get bagels. |
