Where is Bandana's?

Suggestions for Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, or North Wildwood

HookedUp (same as Odd the Hook?)sounds wonderful -- will definitely head over there. Many thanks, njchowgal!

Suggestions for Wildwood, Wildwood Crest, or North Wildwood

Glad you came to us chowhounders -- I don't think much of Yelp! Sharkey's is a great place that is very. very casual -- I don't eat crabs but have seen folks dive into piles of them there. I go for their ribs. For another "outdoor" casual place off the boardwalk, Maui's Doghouse in North Wildwood is a must. They recently got featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, so they are busy, but worth the wait. Jersey Girl is a tad more formal (it is indoors) but very welcoming to families, I have nioticed, and the food is excellent.. Thos are the top three that DH and I will be heading to, when we arrive next week. Would be delighted to hear other suggestions myself, and will of course post a report on our return.

South Jersey Shore Crab/Seafood House Roundup

Sharkey's has awesome ribs, and I have seen other diners dive into heaps of crabs. Just watch out for marauding gullss -- it is an open-air shack.

Gem Cuisines of China, former Hunan Village in Yonkers... Paul is Back!

Bao's is our favorite Westchester Chinese restaurant -- consistently well-prepared, fresh and a pleasant, low-key (almost spa-like) atmosphere. Very quiet on weekends -- I guess the weekday lunch is scene is busier.

Restaurants in Wildwood, N.J,.

Checked my notes: here two very good Italian resturants -- Piro's Village in N. Wildwood and Gia in Wildwood.

Seconding Maui's and Sharkey's! There are also very nice sit-down resturants , every bit as good as the Cape May places, and quieter! Marie Nicole's is one I remember, but there are others. Need to review my notes. I always check the restaurant recommendations posted on the website of the B & B we stay at -- the Candellight Inn in North Wildwood.

Enrico's Pastry Shop of Hartsdale to move and expand

I for one am thrilled that Enrico's is expanding. They do many different things very well-- including a far better challah than the "established" Jewish bakeries in the area (and the challah bread pudding is glorious!). Some of their other Jewish specialties are equally amazing -- such as the potato latkes they make for Chanukah -- and they started out as an Italian bakery! I tried Joe's recent foray into bagel making and it brought tears to my eyes -- it was the old-fashioned taste and texture of my childhood. So I trust him to sell me novy that lives up to his bagels. And it's not a big leap from bagels to cream cheese to cheese. If he offers the caviar/scallion cream cheese that the Hartsdale Cheesery used to sell, I will be a very happy camper.

Wildwood - anything new?

Heading down to the Candlelight Inn in North Wildwood in July, and am always looking for Chowish suggestions. It was here that I was introduced to Sharkey's Feeding Frenizy (on the causeway to Cape May), and Maui's Doghouse (North Wildwood).
Any thoughts, folks?

I'm thinking that the best seafood shack

I'l put in another vote fo Sharkey's -- great fish, great seafood and great ribs!

Two Nights in Memphis - seeking suggestions

Thanks so much Michael H! I am taking all your suggestions with me. Sounds like BBQ Shop needs to be on our list.

What's the local take on the Nealy's places? Are they overexposed from the Food Network -- or deserving of fame?

Two Nights in Memphis - seeking suggestions

Thanks dancingpig! Are these places downtown?

Two Nights in Memphis - seeking suggestions

We are two NY couples setting out on a Delta journey (my DH is a blues musician, in search of his musical roots) and are starting the adventure with two nights in Memphis (Feb. 13 and 14). We'll then be driving down the Blues Highway for several days, staying in Cleveland, Vicksburg and Natchez.

So, with our two days/two nights in Memphis, we want to snag as much great local food and music as possible. We will be staying downtown.

We welcome your suggestons -- and if you have any wods of wisdom for the rest of our journey, we'll take those too!

Thanks CH friends!

The Year that Was--Best Eats of Westchester 2009--Short & Sweet

To best new places, I would add Shiraz.
Completely agree on F & F -- slick, overhyped and mediocre at best.

Frankie & Fanucci’s-Hartsdale (ex-Lias's location)

The food here does not wow me either. Plus, there is something about this place that feels phony to me. Can't put my finger on it but it feels slick and packaged. I'd rather go to a longstanding local place like Villagio on Central Avenue in Hartsdale.

Jade Garden Hartsdale, any info?

Try Bao's in the old White Plains mall - fresh ingredient, carfully prepared and a lovely, calm ambience.

The Settler's Inn, Hawley PA

My DH and I stayed there for a weekend about five years ago -- we enjoyed it very much, and thought the restaurant at the inn was first-rate.

Best places to buy (interesting) beer in mid-westchester?

I live close by Leewood -- it has a nice selection of unusual brews in the back aisle.

Informal Lunch in Nyack this Sunday?

Great recommendation, menton1! Tempations was charming, eager to accomodate the young people in our group, and served tasty food -- a nice choise of sandwiches, salds, etc.. The kids got restless, so we had to come back for dessert -- also very nice -- ice cream was excellent, according to my knolwedgeable DH.

Informal Lunch in Nyack this Sunday?

Perfect! Right menu, riight location --- thank you so much , Menton1! I won't fret about about children's size portions -- the kids can probably split a sandwich if need be.

DH and I will go to Velo another time...

Informal Lunch in Nyack this Sunday?

Just checked out the menu and it sounds wonderful -- for adults. Two little boys are part of this outing. Help!

Informal Lunch in Nyack this Sunday?

Greetings fellow chowers: This Sunday, DH and I are meeting friends in downtown Nyack who have two young children, and we are looking for a pleasant, informal place to have lunch, within walking distance of the theatre on Main Street. American, Italian and Chinese are all acceptable. Any suggestions?
Thanks much!

Caterer- Carey Gross

She catered the bar mitzvahs of both my sons, and countless other simchas at my syangogue in White Plains. Excellent -- and when I spot cranberries in the tuna salad, I know Carey is on the scene!

Sunsplash Caribbean Bakery and Deli, Elmsford NY

I live so close to the glorious Ruth's Jamaican Kitchen (located on Battle Avenue in White Plains) that I haven't focused on other local Jamaican places. But Sunsplash sounds intriguing. Will check it out!

Wildwood Report

Greetings, Chowers. Just got back from our week Down The Shore (staying at our favorite B & B in North Wildwood -- The Candlelight). Here's our Eating Report, in alphabetical order:

Coco's, North Wildwood: : A new restaurant. Ate there twice, as much for the ambience and charming host as for the food. Woodburning brick oven -- heavenly thin pizza, interesting and delicious salads. They also have pasta and main courses on the menu which we have not yet sampled. Westward facing, outdoor dining -- a great sunset location. BYO.

Crab Island, North Wildwood: not exciting but reliable -- I had a decently cooked piece of salmon, DH the fish and chips, listed as an appetizer. A nice touch -- 10% discount coupon for the wine/liquor store downstairs from the retaurant.

Ice House, Wildwood: Another new restaurant that we came across by chance -- I had a very tasty wild salmon , DH had a perfectly cooked prime rib. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Stylish decor,. They have an open-air bar on the roof which looks inviting.

Jersey Girl, Wildwood: Excellent meal --I had an exquisite flounder fillet sauteed w/ almonds, and an utterly delicious tomato bisque; DH had the house salad followed by fish tacos -- outstanding! We shared a silly but tasty martini - it had peach puree.

Maui's Dog House, North Wildwood (New Jersey Avenue) -- The best hot dogs I ever had in my entire life. DH and I dream about them all winter. They now stay open until 8 pm so we were able to have dinner there one night, in addition to a couple of lunches. Keep in mind that a specialty of the house is the side order of sarcasm. Wouldn't have it any other way. They have a fan page on Facebook, and with good reason.

Sharkey's Feeding Frenzy ( on the casuseway between Wildwood Crest and Cape May, tucked into a marina): It's a tarp shack connected to a huge smoker and grill. Still the best ribs in the Tristate area. BYO.

Happy eating!

Cape May Area Eats

Thanks for the backup, HeenB! Wanna trade discoveries? We've had lovely meals at Marie Nicole's, Claude's, and Gia, and Piro's as well for family-style Italian. What have you discovered?

Cape May Area Eats

Been through this before -- folks bad-mouth Widlwood and praise Cape May. But I have had many an over-rpriced mediocre meal in Cape May, and many a lovely and reasonably priced one in Wildwood. You just have to pry yourself away from the boardwalk and go inland a few blocks.

Cape May Area Eats

I second the vote on Maui's -- their homemade hot dogs and toppings are out of this world. We are going down the shore to our favorite B&B in North Wildwood (The Candlelight -- incredible breakfasts) on July 29 -- meetcha at Maui's, flipperz71!

Oh, also, Sharkey's Feeding Frenzy, to the left on the causeway from Wildwood to Cape May. It's a seasonal shack in a marina --amazing ribs and seafood.

Help - in White Plains this Sat...

Agree on Tre Angelina and La Bocca for excellent food -- I think La Bocca is a bit pricey though. . Sorry to be a naysayer on Buon Amici, especially since the service is so warm, but I find the food to be consistently mediocre.

bed and breakfast cuisine

I'll put in a vote for the Candlelight Inn in North Wildwood, a stately and beautifully restored mansion to rival the Great Ladies in Cape May - amazing three-course breakfasts, plus fresh-baked cookies and wine at 4pm on the porch -- mmm! Have been to b&b's up and down the Jersey shore and this is our all-time favorite.
