Belgian Fries!
New Belgian-style fry stand, Flanders Frites, just opened in the space on the back (Hill St. side) of Grand Central Market, directly across from Angel's Flight. Yummy, fresh, crispy twice-cooked fries, delicious dipping sauces (Satay, Aioli, etc.); also has Currywurst and various croquettes on the menu along with salads, sandwiches and casual lunch fare.
Only cons, for you Belgian Traditionalists, is no Mussels on the menu, and the fries don't come with pickled onions- but I am nitpicking.
Alternatives to Jitlada?
So, nobody knows of any other restaurants that do the Crispy Morning Glory Salad?
I probably should have been more specific in the header; I have no shortage of favorite Thai joints, but don't know any others that make that dish ;)
Alternatives to Jitlada?
The last few times I've been to Jitlada have been a real disappointment. The quality has plummeted and the prices are quite high for the skimpy portion sizes; it seemed like the rave reviews have really gone to their heads. Almost no Thai customers the last couple trips, only yuppie/hipster white people; kind of a red flag.
But I'm obsessed with their crispy morning glory salad with shrimp. Does anyone know of another place that makes it?

Green Tea Balls in L.A.?
YAY! Thanks- tried looking at Elite's online menu, but it's not in English, so I was gonna take a gamble on it.
Green Tea Balls in L.A.?
Not the same thing. Those are fairly common, and are rolled in sesame seeds and filled with various kinds of bean paste. Most dim sum restaurants serve them.
The green tea balls are made with bright green tea-flavored rice dough, and the black sesame paste filling tastes like a cross between halvah and peanut butter. They are more common in the Bay Area, but I'd love to find them here again.
Green Tea Balls in L.A.?
There used to be a couple of dim sum joints in the San Gabriel Valley that served fried green tea balls filled with black sesame paste, but both are now closed (The Kitchen, and another I can't recall)
Can anyone recommend anyplace that does them well? Or does them at all?
Looking for Eat a Pita replacement
Not that the grub was that fabulous, but it was a good neighborhood drop-by-take-out Middle eastern option, and sorely missed by me, especially since Noura went away shortly before. Anyone have any rec's? Looking for something open lateish, with eat-in possibility. I'm in WeHo/Ho area. I already know about the EHo places (Caroussel/Marouch) and have tried/don't like the Kosher joint in the Mini-mall on Melrose just East of La Brea.
