Saturday Dinner in Chitown on a serious budget!
My partner and I are arriving into Chicago Saturday for the Housewares show, we are looking for a local real yummy meal on a strict budget!....we are staying in the Loop area, we don't have a problem traveling. Clients are taking us to Japonaise, Avec and OneSixtyBlue for the rest of the trip. How is OneSixtyBlue for a choice?
An amazing downtown brunch this Sunday.
thanks...been to morandi's for breakfast, but so expensive! Breakfast for two was 60 dollars!!! Brunch must be more then that... It was delicious!
An amazing downtown brunch this Sunday.
I am staying in the west village for my birthday and tried to make a Sunday reservation at Balthazar for a real NYC brunch experience. Balthazar was booked, but also might be too pricey for my wallet anyway. Any other great yummy suggestions....of course bloodies are important addition
Where to eat in Quebec City?
La Girolle (1384 chemin Sainte Foy, 418 527-4141) is wonderful, it is far out of town, but so worth the trip. Real local!!! They will try to understand english. You need to bring your own wine, which saves you some $.
Le Cafe du Clocher Penche...is amazing! check out the wine bar across the street Le Cericle
Le Café du Clocher Penché - dinner or brunch?
I just returned with my buddy from Quebec City and Carnival boy is the city beautiful and amazing eats. We arrived and wondered the lower city and stumbled into L'Ecaude. For an introduction to QC it was perfect, small, great lighting and extremly friendly staff. The meal was good, not memorable! We did the additional 10 dollars to add a soup and dessert; the onion soup was blain, no flavor. For the main; the duck confit was good, not as crispy as I would have liked. My buddy had the fish and mussel soup which tasted more fullfilling after the accompaning roux was added...for dessert we were surprised by an addtional cost to the dessert we thought about, so we kept with Creme Brulee that was included with the cost; it was good. Dinner was 123 Canadian with a $46 bottle of Bourdeaux. We had reservations for other restaurants within the walled city but decided to join the real folks for local fare at moderate prices.
Breakfast in the wall city; real yummy at Cafe con Latin on rue ulius (sp) was excellent and should be what breakfast should be. Concho Dingue had a good breakfast too, in a way it felt like a chain restaurant kinda big and relatively fast nice staff, problem we had many really loud annoying Americans around us. We tried to block them out but heard thier entire life stories.
Now, Cafe Clocher Penche was superb!!! Every peice was wonderful. The staff so friendly and helpful. The menu is small and precise. A huge wine selection. I had the rabbit it was gorgeous! The sauce was full of great flavors. My buddy had the magret of carnard which was also just as good. We were lost in the the dessert area, but opted for the dark chocolate ganache cake on top of a chocolate pistachio wafer topped with Fig compote!!! Death by chocolate!
We had reservations at Le Patriache the next night but it looked a bit stuffy, also with the deep winter outfits who can get comfortable with layers of clothes and big winter boots(a must!!! Trust me....you will be walking in muck everywhere)
Research brought us way out of town on Saint-Foy to this BYO restaurant way out in the suburbs of Quebec City called le Grillio(sp). The menu came to us on a rolling big black board, the staff was super. A really tried to speak or understand English. The meal came with a salad or soup, we both enjoyed an advocado salad which was more like a spread to put on a crostini. I throughly enjoyed Veal with a blue cheese mustard sauce, my buddy Filet Mignon cooked perfectly with frites and deicious homemade mayo!!! For dessert we had a big pot of Lemon Creme Brulee, a perfect end! The waiter called us a taxi back to the carnival to walk off the extra calories!
Enjoy your trip! There is so much to see...I would avoid the carnival on weekend days, absolutly packed!
Mont Tremblant Eats
My buddy and I just returned from Tremblant, real nice mountain!! Definetly not cheap! For lunch we escaped the MT cafeterias and ate at two relatively nice family restaurants La Forge and there other restaurant next door. Good beer, salads, burgers & sandwich joints. A plate averages 12 dollars Canadian. For dinner we headed into the old Mont Tremblant village. There are a number of charming restaurants...I need to get back to you with the exact name of the one we ate at.
