Hungry Lu's in Ocean Beach

Has anyone been here? I'm meeting people there for lunch and will report back.

Calm. Quiet. Warm. Peaceful. Soft. Care. Slow. Refined. Hushed. Candlelight.

Farmhouse

Carnitas tacos/burritos

Where can I get a good carnitas taco or burrito? Take out or dine in. I live in Point Loma, work in North Park. Will go a distance. Just don't send me to Poway....

Dia de los muertos pan

Time to add any other recommendations for San Diego !

Week in Sedona...

Byob and 10 dollar corkage fee at Dan's--I'd say give them a try. More than satisfactory and we try at least one new place each time we go so....they won!
Went to Yavapai/Enchantment and walked around the last day, but we had all caught the same cold and figured since we couldn't taste anything, why waste the calories and money!!! DEFINATELY next time tho.
Also--we really enjoyed Wildflower. Every year I say NO--it's just a Panera with a different name, but the pancakes, oatmeal and sandwiches were REALLY good--lots of variety and it IS better than Panera. I don't know why I forget every year :) Plus you sit and watch those afternoon thunderstorms move in and it is breathtaking.
Customer service there is very attentive for a casual place, and they had something that pleased adults and kids for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Week in Sedona...

Beach Chick--we are back from our week in Sedona...we stop for a California Burrito at Sofia's and pie slices at Rock Creek on the way there and back. Dropped the Dateland stop this year as it gets messier and seedier each time we go this year.
Ate at Elote three times as I'm obsessed. New place this time was Dan's Bistro. Reviews were not good on Trip Advisor, but a friend INSISTED we go and it was really good, with good service. Worth a try. Heartline was great, too. Picazzo disappointing.
Have fun!

Sabuku Sushi on Adams Ave

Anyone go yet??

Craving me a slice of pie...

Water's Catering sells pie by the slice occasionally from their Morena Blvd. location. Great cream pies and fruits pies. Sign up for their emails so you know what day they have pie.

chicken fried steak in san diego?

Is there any good chicken fried steak in San Diego? If not, what is the best of what is here? Thanks!

Week in Sedona...

Cake Couture is new and had good cupcakes! We had a Boston cream one and a chocolate. Elote is as good as ever. They usually close for a week in September so plan carefully, Beach Chick!!

what are your favorite places on (or off) adams ave?

Cuevo bar next to farmhouse has awesome empanadas.

Cinnamon rolls

Thanks for the suggestions! I will try Baked and Urban Solace. I heard the Alpine Bread Basket closed awhile ago.
I ended up this week at Homies Cinnamon Roll on 10th and Market downtown. It was a DELICIOUS cinnamon roll, if anyone happened to be down there.
Also enjoyed the Donner jokes that were taken down :)
thanks!

Anyone been here yet? I picked up a menu the other day and it looks interesting.

Cinnamon rolls

what are some good choices for a Sunday morning cinnamon roll? I usually hit Bread and Cie or Con Pane. Any new ideas? I like bread-y, gooey ones especially !

Food Trucks in San Diego???

Could someone tell me which ones are REALLY good? I don't want to be driving all over only to be disappointed. I tried MIHO and Devilicious, based on recommendations by friends, and both I thought were pretty good quality. Any other standouts?

Irish Soda Bread

Anyone know what days Bread and Cie in Hillcrest will have their Irish Soda Bread this week? Anywhere do a better job on this item that you are aware of? Theirs is the best I've found...

Christmas Treats/Special Items

Can we make a list of places selling special items for Christmas that can be picked up as a quick hostess gift or just a special Christmas treat?

I know Twiggs is selling Stollen and also some nice Christmas cookies right now.
Con Pane does a Pannetone bread as well. Any other ideas?

Dia de los muertos pan

Thanks to your both! I ended up at Pancho Villa after all--the bread wasn't ready til noon, but it was still warm! Very good--light, rich dough, good orange flavor, not too sweet....
I'll try your suggestions next year!
Thank you!

Dia de los muertos pan

Where would be the closest place to normal heights to get the sweet, orangey Pan for Dia de los Muertos tomorrow. I asked at Pancho Villa tonight on El Cajon Blvd, and they won't have it til 9 am. I was hoping to pick it up earlier and in that area, if possible.

Also, where in general do they sell it where Chowhounds think it's GOOD! Thanks for any help!

Babycakes in SD : . Babycakes in NY?

Cups in La Jolla is good. Been their twice. Some interesting flavor combos. Moist and tasty. Says its all organic and vegan and stuff, but close your eyes and block that out. They TASTE great!!!

Moon pies in San Diego

To clarify--Moon Pie, not Woopie Pies. Moon Pies are a brand of round graham cookie filled with marshmallow and coated in chocolate, Vanilla or banana. Wrapped in cellophane, made in Tennessee, big in the South. I know over the years I've seen them in a few random places on take-out restaurant counters, but I can't remember where.
Thanks, bizzwriter, for the order link if I can't find them here in SD!

Where to dine in Ramona, CA

Who said anything nasty? I read chowhound regularly looking for restaurant recommendations around Julian, and Jeremy's came up quite frequently, I was just trying to save people time in recommending it. I didn't say anything nasty about it, which could THEN, possibly, I guess, maybe, be construed as "boosting myself at the expense of the owner", who I dont know. I just said the restaurant was not my personal preference.
Thanks, Beach Chick, for the ideas. We'll give them a try!

Where to dine in Ramona, CA

Any recommendations on where to dine in Ramona on the way to Julian. I have never found much good to eat in Julian besides pie. Don't care for Jeremy's in Wynola. Any suggestions? Thanks

Moon pies in San Diego

Do any restaurants/stores in san diego sell Moon Pies?

Good bakery in Palm Springs, CA?

I;m headed to Palm Springs this coming week and am also in search of good bakery stuff!I notice these posts are about a year old. Any updates since Septembr '09?

Dessert: comforting, decadent, and completely guilt-free...

There's a butterscotch pudding with a burnt caramel topping at Banker's Hill that was amazing!

Good Deals for Lunch

I have a question that might help some other people too. I am wondering about some of San Diego's nicer restaurants that serve lunch. Can you recommend any who charge less at lunch time but you still get the quality experience. I know some charge less at lunch but the menu is much more limited in choices.

How about Cucina Urbana, Cafe, Chloe, Bankers Hills, Urban Solace? Can you recommend places like these and other Board favorites where you could have a good dining experience at lunch time and save a little money without sacrificing too much in menu variety, food prep, and service? Thanks!

Lunch in Adams Ave. area

A little late, but looking for lunch in the Adams Ave. area. I know Jaynes, Ritual Tavern, Farmhouse are not open for lunch and they would be my first choices. Anything else good around here? Casual or upper scale will do--any nationality.
Thanks!
