Oil less fried turkey vs. conventional fried turkey

I suppose that you all are correct. If there is no oil it is not frying. Nonetheless, there are products on market called oil-less fryers:

Anyone have experiences with these types of products, whatever we call them?

Best Value in Manhattan

For lunch I suggest the Bhatti Indian Grill at 100 Lexington Ave. For $10 you get a salad, a small chicken plate, several pieces of Naan bread, chicken tikka masala, spinach, beans, curry potatoes, eggplant, and rice pudding! I could not finish it all! The food is tasty and the decor nice.

Five bucks a slice?

I finally made it to Di Fara's. The pizza lives up to the hype. Certainly the best pizza availalble by the slice that I have had.

But $5 bucks a slice? $25 bucks for a regular pie with no toppings? That seems a bit over the top especially considering the dingy decor. If I lived near there I would not regularly drop $10-15 bucks for two slices and a soda. I think that's too high. And I love pizza. Eat it 2-3 times a week.

Apparently others do not agree? Is $5 bucks a slice too high?

Where to find plantain tarts?

Can anyone recommend a place to find plantain tarts? There was a place in Cary, NC that made them but I have never found them in NYC.

Plantain tarts are like beef patties except the filling is made of pureed plantains.

Pearl or Israeli CousCous

Can anyone recommend a place to purchase Pearl or Israeli CousCous? Not already prepared but some I can cook at home. I am in Morningside Heights.

Thanks!

West Side Food festival?

Right, it is the Tatse of Time Square that I was referring to. I like it much more than the 9th avenue food festival. The 9th avenue food festival is not that different ffrom all the other street festivals in terms of food offerings. The Tatse of Times Square has some really good food from local restaurants.

Thanks for the replies!

West Side Food festival?

Last year I attended a food festival on West 45th or 46th between 8th and 10th avenues. A number of the local restaurants had booths. It was great! Does anyone know when it will be held this year?

Hurapan Kitchen

I second the recommendation. I went there for dinner and the food was excellent and the service good too.

Where to get Yeast cake?

Does anyone know where I can purchase yeast cake? My Mother makes Parker House rolls and insists she needs yeast cake and cannot use the active dry yeast.

Thanks!

Where to find plantain tarts?

When I was in grad school in North Carolina their was a Jamaican restaurant that sold plantain tarts. They look like beef patties but the filling is mashed plantains that are combined with something to give the filling a reddish color. I loved them! Anyone know where to find these in NYC?

Best Soul Food In NY?

To the list of best soul food I would have to add Rack and Soul on 109th street and Broadway in Morningside Heights. The fried chicken is on point and the collard greens are the bomb!

THe decor is also nicer than Charles', or Miss Mamie's if that is important to you.

Great chocolate Suite 88

I visited Montreal this past weekend and bought some chocolates from Suite 88. It is worth the trip. A little pricey but the chocolate is very good. It is located at 3957 rue Saint-Denis.

Restaurant week DC--is it worth it?

I'm visiting DC this week. Should I go out of my way to try the "special" menus? I know when they have restaurant week in NYC some restaurants skimp on portions and put some of the less desirable dishes on the special menus.

Any recommendations/warnings for restaurants participating in restaurant week?

Mo's Seafood Factory best crabcake?

A group of us are walking around Fel's Point/inner harbor. We ask a valet driver to recommend a place for crabcakes. He recommended Mo's Seafood Factory. I thought the food was awful. THe vegatable tasted like they were just boiled in water. The crabcakes had plenty of crab but were huge globs of crab and mayo. The people I was with swore these were great crabcakes. Is this the best in Baltimore?

Pizza

There is a place on the Northwest corner of 7th Avenue and 23rd street. I cannot remember the name. I think their slices are excellent. They have Margherita style and New York style thin crust. Very good alternative if you don't want to deal with the crowds at Joe's.
