Bar La Grassa or 112 Eatery

Thanks to all of you guys! We had a fantastic dinner at La Grassa. The soft lobster and eggs was fanfreakingtastic. Ditto for the St. Louis ribs. Big fan of the gnocchi. I got a sea urchin pasta that was regrettable - without flavor, dry, just appalling. There was a scallop dish that was pretty good. A crab ravioli that was nice. It wasn't a mind-blowing meal, but the menu is huge and the three of us only sampled a sliver of it. I'd definitely go again. Also had a fantastic breakfast - bison benedict with rosti potatoes - at Hell's Kitchen, and two great meals (a lunch and breakfast) at French Meadows in Uptown. Had fun drinking beer on the roof at Stella's, too. It's such a fantastic town, and it was great to revisit, after 20 years of being away. I plan to get back to Minneapolis more routinely.

Thanks to all of you for your help! I can't wait to get back to Minneapolis. I lived there in the early 90s, at the corner of Lyndale and ... maybe 24th? Leaning Tower of Pizza was on one corner; across Lyndale was Muddy Waters. Such a great town and neighborhood.

I'm coming to Minneapolis soon with two friends. None of us live in Minneapolis, although I lived in the city in the early '90s. We've heard great things about these places. I assume we'll eat at one of them. Any thoughts? We will probably eat late, at 9 or later. Both menus look fantastic. Is one a bit more laid-back than the other? We aren't looking for a candlelight dinner, but we are looking for a great meal.

Oysters, crabs in Seattle

Oh for god's sake. How's this: Does anybody know where I can find some really killer, authentically Madagascarian kitoza in Belltown?

Oysters, crabs in Seattle

I'm flying from Denver to Seattle and meeting a few friends there for a long weekend in July. The plan: Eat as much seafood as possible, with an emphasis on half-shell oysters. We'd like some good crab too. And halibut, naturally.

Anyway, does anybody have any must-visits? We are staying in downtown Seattle and won't have a car.

The Best Grilled Steak Recipe

What is it? What is the best cut of beef for a grilled steak? Is it necessary to build a two-tier fire, so you can sear the steak over very high heat, and then move it to an area of lower heat? Should the steak receive salt, pepper and/or olive oil before it goes on the grill? Should it receive none of these things? Should it receive something else? I'm not especially interested in sauces, blue cheese, that sort of thing. Just the meat, and maybe a little fat (olive oil, butter), salt and pepper.

Thoughts?

Looking for grillers in CO

I'm working on a story about grilling for The Denver Post, and I'd love to hear from any Front Range grillers who are WAY into grilling. This story is about grilling, and not barbecuing; we'll save the barbecue story for a later date.

You can reach me at djbrown@denverpost, or 303-954-1395, or respond here.

DIY in Colorado

I'm a reporter, looking for people in Colorado who make their own: sausage, cured meats, cocktail ingredients, cheese, etc. etc. Anybody out there?

Cocktail obsessives

I'm a journalist looking for people in Colorado who are obsessed with cocktails, to the point that they make their own bitters and liquers, buy obscure ingredients on eBay, and collect old cocktail recipe books. Ideally, I'd find a group of people who regularly get together to make cocktails. In addition, if anybody can recommend especially good bartenders and bars (bartenders that specialize in classic cocktails and, ideally, do make some of their own ingredients) that would be great.
