Where to buy meaty, local ribs?

The membrane was really already removed? I buy their spares quite a bit and have always had to remove it myself. I'll have to get back there soon and see what's up. They are good ribs though.

Seattle Eats with Kids

We've done Delancey with our 4 and 7-year olds. It's great as long as you go at off-peak times as the waits can be brutal. I still say it's the best pizza in Seattle but nothing in this city is as good as Apizza Scholls down there, IMO.

Five Hooks Fish Grill—don't bother

Bummer to hear all of that. That space has been a restaurant graveyard and I guess it will continue to be.

To answer your question, Via Tribunali probably comes closest. Everything else is either not great (Paragon, Flame, etc.) or not kid-friendly (Hilltop Ale House, Betty).

Best Burger in Seatown?

Next time, try the Philly Smash burger with bacon added. The woman at the counter suggested it and I've had it three times since and never been disappointed. The meat taste still comes thru but the peppers, special sauce and bacon make everything so perfectly greasy. It's my favorite burger in town since Lunchbox Lab moved out of their old location.

Restaurants near Safeco Field

Woah...really? I guess I need to try them again. The one time I went, my cheesesteak featured stringy meat, a too-crusty roll and mediocre cheese. I certainly respect your opinion, though, so I'll give it another shot.

Looking for great meals in Newport, RI

Thanks for the response. Think we'll do the Mooring one night and then play the rest by ear.

Looking for great meals in Newport, RI

Hey all. I live in Seattle but am coming to Newport for a couple of nights later in the month and was hoping to get some suggestions for lunches and dinners. My wife and I love to eat and while I detest the term "foodie", it probably does adequately describe us. We love all types of foods but creative cuisine and local ingredients are a huge plus.

I've done some research on this board and others and have come up with the following list. Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Tallulah -- looked like the best dinner option but they're closed for the week we'll be there (11/20 and 11/21)

TSK -- also looked great but also closed for the nights we're in town

Mooring -- seems to be our best option for a dinner but curious to hear thoughts. The website and reviews I've read seem very positive

Fluke -- not sure if they're open but seems like a great choice for a more casual dinner. Maybe they're open for lunch too?

Salvation Cafe -- also looks fantastic but like Fluke, seems more casual. I certainly could be wrong though.

Perro Salado -- we tend to eat a fair amount of Mexican here on the West Coast but I really like the looks of this place too.

As you can see, I think we have it narrowed down a bit but I'd love to hear you thoughts. Thanks much in advance for any responses.

Best Burger in Seatown?

Also agree on Built. The texture was so off and the taste was not much better. I'd never go there again especially since I can get a great BBQ sandwich at Hole in the Wall right next door.

Good BBQ in Seattle?

I actually had a fairly good pulled pork sandwich at the Wallingford location not too long ago.

My vote for best in Seattle has to be Hole in the Wall BBQ on James St. Great brisket sandwiches and the beans are the best I've had in a while. Check it out if you haven't yet.

Smoking wood chips

Head over to Sutter Home & Hearth on old Ballard Ave. They have a great selection of chips and chunks for smoking. I smoke meats quite often and always find everything I need there.

Looking For Great Onion Rings in Seattle Area

I'll second the onion strings at The Counter. I'm not a huge fan of the place in general as I find their burgers to be pretty bland no matter how many toppings you put on but those onion strings are fantastic. Just greasy and salty enough to make them delicious.

Looking For Great Onion Rings in Seattle Area

Uneeda Burger has some great onion rings, possibly my favorite in the city. The portion size is small for the price but the taste and texture is perfect.

Calozzi's Famous Cheesesteaks (Pioneer Square)

I tried Calozzi's about a month ago and was very disappointed. The meat in the cheesesteak was stringy and unappetizing and the bread wasn't good either. I had high hopes but with Tat's around the corner, I see absolutely no reason to go back.

Good chicken parm sandwich?

There is a serious dearth of good chicken parm here in Seattle. I'm pretty sure Grinders, while ok, is not fried which is just not real chicken parm. I'll echo the other posters in saying that Tat's and Other Coast are really the only passable ones I've had.

Is Delancey's pizza worth the time and money?

I love pizza and in my opinion, it's hands-down the best pizza in Seattle right now. If you really like pizza, then it's well worth the wait. As the previous poster said, it's really not very expensive either.

Pizza suggestions for NYC visitor

My bad. In that case, Via Tribunali, Delancey and Flying Squirrel would be my suggestions.

Pizza suggestions for NYC visitor

I spent several years in NYC and I agree with those who say that true NYC pizza does not exist in Seattle. For me, the closest I've had would be Flying Squirrel or (ironically) A New York Pizza Place.

I know this is the Seattle board but if you're up for a 3-hour drive, head down to Portland to A Pizza Scholls. I firmly believe it's the best pizza in the Northwest by far.

First trip to Tat's Delicatessen

The cheesesteaks are fantastic but the Tatstrami is my favorite sandwich there. Don't miss that the next time you go.

Kid Tolerant Foodie Restaurants?

Have to disagree on the 5 Spot. Yes, it's not bad for kids but the food is overpriced and the quality has really gone down. Lunch is still OK but I'd pass on dinner.

I strongly second Flying Squirrel and I'll also toss in a vote for Chinook's. Sure, it's not the top seafood place in the Seattle but the food is pretty good and the atmosphere is perfect for kids with lots of room and tons for them to look at (boats, water, etc.)

Recs for a summer produce box subscription (CSA)?

I highly recommend Boistfort Valley Farm: http://www.boistfortvalleyfarm.com/ . Last year was our first with them and they provided a huge box of high-quality fruits and vegetables and even include fresh-cut flowers with each box. We only did the summer share and will so again this year but I know they also offer a winter share as well. We did Full Circle Farm and were never really able to get everything locally from their farm which was our intended goal with the CSA. We never had this issue with Boistfort Valley as I believe that everything comes directly from them.

Opal in Queen Anne Closing...what's next?

The old Vincenzo's has a sign in the window saying some sort of Mexican place is coming. Can't remember exactly but it's called something like Techino.

Mexican in Seattle

Yep, think it opened a couple of months ago. Never been to the one on Aurora but I can definitely vouch for the SoDo location. I think I'm addicted actually.

Mexican in Seattle

I love the El Camion truck on 1st Ave. South past the stadiums. Probably the best carnitas taco I've ever had and the tamales are amazing. Everything's great and cheap. Highly, highly recommended.

slider buns-seattle

Metropolitan Market carries them in packages of 8 for about $3. I used them for pulled pork sliders and they were great.

good french dip in Seattle?

Gotta second Rizzo's although be aware that the meat is pre-dipped. It's not the type of French Dip where you actually dip the sandwich in the jus but it's very, very good.

Looking for a good Eastern NC style BBQ place in King County

I finally checked out Roy's in Columbia City yesterday for lunch and was very impressed. I lived in Texas for a while and have my own smoker so I consider myself a bit of a BBQ snob but this place was pretty good. The Georgia Gold sandwich was tasty: not Eastern NC style but it also wasn't soaked with sauce mixed all throughout. There was just a nice slather of spicy, tangy sauce on top of tender, smoky pork with some good slaw on top of that. I also tried the Brisket sandwich and that was good too: sliced, not chopped, and again just topped with a different spicy TX-style BBW sauce.

It may not be Angelo's in Fort Worth but it's the best BBQ I've had in Seattle, hands down.

Looking for a good Eastern NC style BBQ place in King County

I can unfortunately confim leper's report. The only pulled pork you're going to get here has tangy BBQ sauce mixed in...obviously worlds away and, in my opinion, much worse than great Eastern Carolina BBQ. Let us know if you find something though.

Seeking perfect burger joint combo in Seattle

Great suggestions so far. I'd suggest Blue Moon Burgers in Fremont or South Lake Union. Their burgers are pretty good and I know my wife loves the Southwest veggie burger. They also have really good crispy waffle fries and it's all pretty cheap.

My 4-Day Seattle Trip

As many people have noted before (including myself), Paglicacci's is good pizza IF it's ordered well done. It's not very good, but the Pesto Primo is close to being very good.

Sorry to hijack...great write-up on your visit. If you're set on getting good burgers, I really enjoy those from Skillet, Dahlia Lounge and Lunchbox Laboratory.

Any great Walla Walla wineries that do private tours?

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. I'll definitely try and check these places out and report back.
