Church Key

I missed that post.

Church Key

It isn't really dim sum. The carts have sushi, falafel, filled croissants etc. A bit of everything. I love the concept of choosing items that come around in carts One of the people I had dinner with has been to State Bird Provisions in S F. They began the cart style of service. She said the food did not compare. It's on my list. Is there any reason to go to Church Key? Sure. The food is good and it's unique without being too out there.

Church Key

I had a pleasant meal at Church Key last night. The food was good but nothing stood out. There was no dish that made me want to return to order it again. The carts were a nice touch but almost seemed like an after thought as they did not offer many items and seemed to always be half empty. It was a fun evening, the room is pretty and the service was great. If I had to pick one standout dish it would be the steak which was seasoned generously and very tender. The vinegar popcorn was fun. Again, not the best meal I have had this year but certainly not the worst.

Chicken Pot Pies?

Trader Joe's refrigerated chicken pot pies (not the frozen) are as good as any of the better pies I have had in restaurants. Surprisingly delicious.

Ink - Republique - Perch - Riva Bella?

Taking young out of towners to diner. They appreciate good food.
Thinking Republique - Perch - Ink or Riva Bella but open to ideas.

Finally got to MB Post

Agreed. This is one of the few places that gets small plates right. Everything on the menu is terrific!

Mammoth - Finally a Great Meal

Finally had a great dinner in Mammoth - at CJ's Grill. It is an unassuming, comfortable restaurant with really good food. I kept saying during the meal "I wish we had a place like this in L A". I am sure we do but I haven't found it. The general manager/waitress seated us and waited on our table. She was lovely. Very friendly but not at all intrusive. Her husband and co-owner is the chef. He brought our dishes to the table which was quite nice. The food is super fresh and they make their own dressings, bread etc. Their homemade Chicken Florentine soup was delicious. I had a large salad that had perfectly seasoned meat on top and crispy fries - much better than croutons. Their homemade cinnamon ice cream was amazing. The burgers are fantastic. I have a feeling that everything on the menu is delicious. We almost went back the second night. Instead we went to Campo. It was fine but nothing special. We will make CJ's an annual stop when we visit Mammoth.

New to Hermosa/Manhattan Area

Love the food at M B Post. Have heard mixed reviews on Fishing With Dynamite next door but haven't been. Petros has decent Mediterranean - better at lunch than dinner. Breakfast at Uncle Bill's is wonderful. The line is quicker than it appears.

Nikita Malibu

Anyone been? I know the view is amazing. Is the food good? Any favorite dishes?

ROC, finally went....

The dumplings had absolutely no taste. The Kale was good but it was hot in some places and lukewarm in others. Not returning.

Nikita?

Has anyone been? Is the food good? Going to dinner with another couple who would like an ocean view. Unfortunately, there aren't too many good options. We all love Mediterranean food so I thought this might be a good choice.

B-day dinner ------ 2 choices....

Hinoki is a bit more of a scene. It feels more rushed than Cliff''s Edge and can be loud - even on the patio. Some dishes are great and some are just okay. Cliff''s Edge is much more casual but the patio is lovely. I had a wonderful dinner there a few months ago. It is also quieter. I wish it was closer as I am on the Westside.
Have a Happy Birthday!

Top Round

Finally made it to Top Round. The comments on the board are correct - Top Round is delicious. The beef is quite tender, roll with salt and caraway seeds was great and the horseradish added the perfect kick.
It's strong so I recommend asking for it on the side. Good curly fries too. Fried chicken sounded great - next time. Now they just need to open further west. Old Delores location on S M Blvd in West L A?
Good central location and there is even a parking lot.

Connie & Ted's

Since the last thread became about walking (by the way I walk in L A! ) I thought I would start a new one. I have been many times and I have found the best items are the simply prepared ones. I am a huge fan of steamers and theirs are as good as the ones on the east cost. Their fried clam bellies are wonderful as are their chowdas.
The clam cakes and baked clams were okay but nothing special. The patio is pleasant and quieter than inside. Now - if someone would bring hard shell crabs to L A...

Crossroads or Gracias Madre?

I had a wonderful dinner at crossroads. It is completely vegan but you almost do not even notice it. The restaurant has a nice feel to it and somehow even though it was packed it was not very loud. We enjoyed every part of the meal. I am not familiar with Gracias Madre.

Tar and Roses

Went last night and it was wonderful. We sat on the back patio which was quiet. Service was fantastic and food was delicious. My favorite was the roast chicken and the simple salad with excellent tomatoes and home baked croutons. The chicken was as moist and flavorful as any chicken I remember having. Looking forward to returning

Mom's 50th!

26 Beach is very close to you. There is a casual patio and an intimate inside area. The menu is quite varied and everything is good. Make sure to request the patio at The Polo Lounge. You may also wish to have dessert or coffee at the newly remodeled Cabana Café Café by the pool. It's especially lovely on a warm day.

Marla's on Abbott Kinney

It's closer to the Marina than most of the restaurants - across from the large French Market Café. I am usually disappointed when I try new places and I was pleasantly surprised. Honestly, if I had heard the food was amazing I may have been disappointed but for a unique neighborhood type of place it was good.

Marla's on Abbott Kinney

I tried a restaurant called Marla's on Abbott Kinney in Venice last night. The restaurant stems from a caterer who has been in this space for many years. The restaurant has been there for several years but I had never noticed it. It was an eclectic café that had lots of draping and almost looked temporary. I felt as if I were in another country. The service was a bit slow but super friendly. The menu had items ranging from five types of homemade soup to pork sandwiches to chicken parmesan to ribs. I had the tomato soup which was delicious and served piping hot. I also ordered a carne asada soft taco that was just mediocre followed by an excellent Mediterranean salad. My dining companion had a delicious pork loin sandwich with a side of excellent pasta. They make their own salad dressings, bread etc. I will absolutely return.

Yes but the waitress just smiled and sort of pretended she didn't hear me. She definitely did.

Has anyone tried the new restaurant at The Mondrian in W Hollywood? I always thought Asia De Cuba was a pretty location. Food was not consistent though.
