Must buys at T&T for gifts
Thanks so much for these ideas. Printed off and added to the shopping list!
Must buys at T&T for gifts
I am putting together a basket as a gift for a teenager with expanding tastes. He will probably end up in chefs school and I thought T&T may offer some different products that he should try. He has requested "Ketjap Manis indonisian sweet soy sauce". Does anyone have any other suggestions for products there that he should try? Always great to have recommendations! Thanks very much....
Saturday dinner near Pantheon or Piazza Navona?
We had dinner at Cul De Sac which is in Piazza Pasquino near Piazza Navona. We had a lovely platter of Local Cheeses to start and then finished with some salads. Reasonably priced....
Best Pizza in Rome, Italy. Any advise?
Just returned and had "Superbuffalo" pizza at Dar Poeta. It was great! Busy spot-went by several times and it was always packed with people and line ups to get in. Dinner for two with drinks and salad came to $25 Euro....just can't beat that price!
Canyon Creek for Father's day - review
Went once to the Front St Toronto location-just ok food. Service was excellent. Fish with mashed potatoes and hollandaise was very bland even though oversold as a fabulous dish, fries were nothing special and chicken was dry and overdone. Steak and burger were by far the best items on the menu.
COSTCO slab cakes - yes or no for kid's b'day party
I agree that it feeds a lot of kids for a reasonable price. They are strung out on the whole birthday party craziness anyways! I have had adult parties and served the carrot cake that everyone loves as well. That having been said we often purchase from Katie's Cakes a slab cake with lemon filling. Very nice and not as sweet but pricier. They will do custom work as well.

Best Ground Espresso for Purchase in a Grocery Store
Thanks for the suggestions and will see which ones that I can find. Weird how I have suddenly got the craving for coffee after not having it for about 5 years!!!
Best Ground Espresso for Purchase in a Grocery Store
Sorry not near a Highland Farms but will watch for it in my travels. I think I passed one the other day on the way to the Hershey centre. Darn if I had only known!
Best Ground Espresso for Purchase in a Grocery Store
I see Illy in all of the higher end stores and I think they have a couple of different types?
Best Ground Espresso for Purchase in a Grocery Store
Just returning to drinking coffee again after many years of drinking tea. I have a stove top espresso maker (Brabantia) and I am looking to purchase ground espresso. The local supermarket has so many choices....does anyone have any recommendations for purchase in Toronto?
Thanks!
Lime Leaves
I did use them like a bay leaf and did not grind them. They were just listed as a lime leaf. Thanks for the link and I think they look the same as the Kaffir lime leaf. Maybe I did use too many as I used 6 for 2 cans of coconut milk. I looked at some of the recipes on the site and i think I will try some of the soup recipes. I love the visuals to show how to tie the lemon grass etc.
Lime Leaves
No cilantro in it-although there was silken tofu in it. Cilantro is a personal favourite of mine.
Lime Leaves
I don't think it was the curry paste as when I smelled the leaves it was the smell of the leaf and I guess you could call it floral. I did use lemon grass and galangar (white ginger?) Maybe it is just not my flavour :-( I would like to try something else though if anyone has any recipe suggestions.
Lime Leaves
Do they give a soapy flavour though? Sorry this is the only way that I can describe it...maybe I used too many? I thought that they would taste more lime flavoured then the flavour that I had from the dish.
Lime Leaves
I tried to make a new dish last week and used lime leaves, coconut milk, galangar and yellow curry paste. I added about 6 lime leaves to the mix of two cans of coconut milk. Didn't like the taste of the end product and I think that it was the lime leaf flavour. Tasted a bit soapy? I now have a bunch left over and thought I should try something else. Does anyone have a recipe that tastes great using lime leaves? Thanks!
Michelangelo's Fine Italian - Closed for good?
Still closed for renovations says the sign. Have not seen any movement on opening up.
Ci Vediamo Closed?
Thanks for the note and the scoop! I will definitely try it out in the new year. I had not been going as the last time we did not have a great meal. But this sounds totally great! I am anxious to try it.
Ci Vediamo Closed?
That is great if you can find out and repost the response....I attended a private party that they hosted and they put together a lovely night. Can't wait to try the re-invented if this is the case as we are sadly lacking for options in the Beach.
Ci Vediamo Closed?
Just drove past this weekend and looked like it had a chain and lock on it. Called the phone number and number is out of service? Anyone know what happened? Great location but definitely hit and miss on the food that I have had in the past.
What went wrong with my Seafood Casserole?
No they were not dry....Ok sneaky scallops got me!
What went wrong with my Seafood Casserole?
I did put a lot of potato topping on-maybe more than I should have as I made a bit extra. Never even thought the potatoes would create extra liquid as they were precooked and grated. The base of leeks, carrots and celery I did precook. How does liquid separate from roux when cooked? If I cooked it a bit longer than it should have? (guests were a bit late!)
What went wrong with my Seafood Casserole?
Posted a thread here about a casserole for last week. I decided on a "Fisherman's Pie" style recipe with a potato gratin top. The base had leeks, celery and carrots in a whole milk thickened mixture. Added well drained and dried, but previously frozen shrimp and scallops. The milk roux with the veggie mixture was really thick but when baked with the potato topping it was runny. It was a nice recipe and not cheap to make. Any suggestions on why it was runny when I feel that I really drained and dried the seafood prior to baking.
Thanks!
Seafood Casserole recipe needed for next week
Thanks all and sorry for the delay in getting back to you for your generous suggestions. I like the Ina Garten one which is quite similar to one I have chosen. It is a cream sauce with shrimp and scallops topped with yukon gold smashed potatoes and gruyere. So almost like a seafood sheppards pie. I will let you know how it goes. I am rounding the party out with grilled lemon, garlic oregano chicken, sweet potato fries and also tabbouli, spinach salad. All my favourites!
Seafood Casserole recipe needed for next week
I am looking for a seafood casserole recipe. A couple of parameters: No mussels, no rice or pasta mixed into the casserole as I will be doing this separately, if I could make part of it ahead this would be great. I do like fennel and Pernod. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!
All I want for Xmas is a Cookbook-which one?
Thanks for the suggestions. Was looking at my friends copy of Mark Bittmans book and thought it would be a good one to add. I like the Barefoot Contessa cookbooks but do not own one. Which one of hers would you say is the best for general use?
All I want for Xmas is a Cookbook-which one?
Maybe opening up a debate on this site given the number of cookbook afficianados. I want to put one on my list for Xmas and don't know which one. I have the Bon Appetit and some old standbys (Better Home and Gardens) but want to add to this with a classic. Prerequistes are easy fast cooking that can be easily served to guests as well as family and the cookbook must be in current print. Any suggestions? Thanks for your suggestions....
Eggsmart O'Connor and Pape
Thanks for the details! I was curious as there did seem to be a lot of traffic there. Will post a review if I end up going.
Eggsmart O'Connor and Pape
Does anyone know about this place? I think that I have the name right. I drove past on Saturday and there were a number of cars parked outside. Not sure if it is a chain or take out as I did not have time to stop. Any Chow info? Thanks.....
Paris with teens in August; 1 or 4 district
Just replying to my own post with results-Crepes seemed to be the biggest hit with the teens. Rue Montorgeuil was a fabulous location as there were numerous vendors of fresh meats and cheeses, fresh veggies and seafood all along this stretch. Also smaller bistros in the same location which we were able to take advantage of.
Customized Cereal Bowls Near Pompidou Centre
Not sure if this is the right board to post this on. We were in Paris this summer and I have lost the flyer from a small store located near the Pompidou Centre. They make and customize pottery bowls. They looked a little Dutch with Blue and White and also with small characters on the bowls. Does anyone have a link to this store? Thanks in advance for your help!
