Old Fire Oven...

We've this old fire oven where there is no heat coming from the top as electric oven! ...

I see a lot of recipes where the meat is pan fried and transferred to oven to finish... for ex: when I tried this Korean Spiced Lamb Chops (http://www.ming.com/food-and-wine/rec...), I could never get the texture I saw in the video.. which made me think.. must be my oven... would this be the case?

Also, what are things I cannot make in this oven?

I like that new habanero sauce that McD has now...if you've tried it, looking for something like that or else your favorite habanero sauce recipe.

Thanks!

Concord grapes ... where to find in LA?

Looking for concord grapes. So far, I was able to find them twice in 3 years around here.
Wondering if anyone know of specialty store that sells concord grapes more often!

Thanks!

Looking for decent Chef knife & Paring knife

wow! I'm glad I asked you guys here... although it was like baptism with fire ..jk ;) ... I learned a lot about knifes!

I'm in process of becoming a mostly vegetarian with some fish. Now all these wonderful knifes...are they an overkill for this need? I mean is the finesse of good knifes aimed at meat mostly?

At this time, around $50...
I think push cut (maybe because of the basic knifes I got)
Never sharpened a knife!

Red rice... where do you buy?

After learning about the health benefits of Red rice... I wanted to buy it, but could not find at local stores (& even Amazon)!
So, wondering where those of you who eat Red rice buy from?
Also, what are approximate rates?

Many thanks!

How are nutrients calculated?

We can find nutrients in a raw sweet potato and boiled sweet potato.
But, how is this actually calculated?

Reason I ask is...apart from 'is that info accurate?'...if I can calculate it myself, I can compare say an organic vegetable to non-organic one, raw one to cooked (boiled or steamed) one, cooked dish (this is almost impossible to accurately calculate), etc.

P.S. This might sound like an overkill, but with all the advancements in science, there should be easier ways to do this...

How to delay mold of Pita bread

I like Pita breads.. they're not expensive and I believe not a lot of oil is used to make them.
But as some of you have faced it, they get mold pretty quickly!
Unless you've access to a store/bakery close by, it's hard to store Pita bread without it getting moldy.
I'm looking for tips to delay this mold onset...

Thanks!

Looking for good Juicer for Leafy Greens

Has anyone here use Jay Kordich PowerGrind Pro?
Amazon reviews are split...wondering how good it is and how it performs with greens!

Looking for good Juicer for Leafy Greens

Already have a blender (Kitchenaid) which is not as powerful as NutriBullet, but does the job. Reason I did not choose NutriBullet is its size, needed something bigger to make smoothies for 3 at a time.
But right now I'm looking for a juicer to make leafy greens (wheat grass, dandelion, etc) juices

Looking for good Juicer for Leafy Greens

Already have a blender for smoothies, but I'm looking for a proper juicer for
- juicing leafy greens mainly (& some vegetable/fruits like celery/sweet potatoes/beets/carrots sometimes)
- easier to clean/maintain
- not too expensive

Had a Omega VRT 330HD and had to return it as it needed lots of prep work before juicing, also would clog up and the juice is too pulpy (though this can be taken care with a filter)

Read a little about this new Omega NC800 juicer which seems nice as it juices greens well and also is easy to clean - what do you think?
And are there better/comparable options?

Reduce starch from rice..

We know rice is a starchy grain.. given that the question is how to reduce that starch!

Few suggestions I've heard -
1. boiling rice with excess water and when rice is cooked, discard the extra water and along with it a lot of starch is removed
2. pre-soaking rice

Does any of these really reduce the starch?
Also, are there other ways to reduce the starch from rice?

Thanks!

Recommend Grocery Tote Bag

Thanks for all the responses folks...

So I ended up getting inexpensive bags from TJ's and they seem to work fine for now...pretty roomy, remarkably strong and they can stand up unlike some I've seen. Not sure if they're washable.

Recommend Grocery Tote Bag

In LA for groceries checkouts, they stopped giving plastic or even paper bags and started charging extra for the paper bags!

So, I'm looking for a durable but not too expensive Grocery Tote Bag.

Thanks!
