86th between 1st and York

MUCH better.

Upper West Side restaurant with street seating for lunch?

Sorry. Italian, French, or American. If entrees are in the $13-$20 range that would work well.

edit: And ideal location: Closer to the park the better and in the 60th street to 85th street range.

Upper West Side restaurant with street seating for lunch?

Any recommendations would be appreciated. Nothing too fancy/pricey, but nice with at least solid food works well. It's for a casual date - thanks!

First date on the Lower East Side

The type of food doesn't really matter, and my price range is, at the very top, $120 or less with tip (including a few drinks).

Just want a good place. I'm thinking Barrio Chino, but would like some other options. Oh and the dates tonight so it can't place I'd need a reservation for in advance. Thanks.

Is it still tough to get a reservation at Minetta Tavern?

It is but if you call 30 days in advance of the day you want to go right at 9 AM (and are willing to stay on hold for 30 minutes) you can get a table at a good time.

And I just want to say that I went the other week and every dish was fantastic EXCEPT for the steak. I mean the steak was fine, but to compare it to a goo steak house steak is absurd. The lamb was very good though, as was everything else.

Where to go from the Union Square Hospitality Group?

Thanks everyone. I think EMP is the choice, and I'll spend the balance at Maialino. Or I guess maybe Tabla, but it doesn't seem worth it.

Where to go from the Union Square Hospitality Group?

Well I have $400 on the certificate so maybe EMP for the first and Maialino for the second?

The Modern sounds good but I'd prefer a different atmosphere than something that is bright.

Where to go from the Union Square Hospitality Group?

I got a gift certificate to this and I haven't been to any of the places on it except Blue Smoke and, of course, Shake Shack. The restaurants include Union Square Cafe, Gramercy Tavern, Eleven Madison Park, The Modern, and I suppose Maialino if it is especially good - although I'm really choosing between the first four. I'm sure everyone knows all of those places, and I was just wondering which is the best. Thanks.

Oh, and it would be a date with my girlfriend - both in our mid 20's, but the key is the food being the best.

Best Steakhouse in NYC to watch Yankee Game on TV

How about make the trip up to Yankee Stadium and go to NYY Steak? I've yet to go, but I've heard it's damn good.

Italian restaurant needed for birthday date

Not really. Anywhere in Manhattan works. If I had to choose I'd probably go more downtown, but as long as it's good we're willing to travel.

Italian restaurant needed for birthday date

Taking the girl out to dinner for her birthday and looking for a really good (food-wise) restaurant that would be a good scene for us. Doesn't have to be romantic (although it can be), but want it to be fun, with the food being the priority. I'm leaning towards an Italian place, but if it's not Italian and fits the criteria, I'd love to hear about it.

As for $$$, the absolute maximum for the bill for the two of us, including wine and tip should be $150. Less is certainly fine too. Also the dinner is this Thursday so it has to be a place that I can get a reservation for. Thanks in advance.

Degustation Report

I went once a number of months ago and am dying to go again. To me, it is an amazing restaurant.

Cafe Katja

I've been to Cafe Katja a number of times and every time it is awesome. I'd definitely suggest going with whatever specials they have as those can be truly remarkable. My favorite meal there my friend got the venison special which was great and I got the pork belly dish wish was spectacular. I'm going to have to go back very soon as I just got hungry again.

NYC Food Challenges

It's doable but my stomach was burning like crazy for the entire evening. I am proud to be a Phaal Curry Monster though.

Anyways, Ottomanelli Brothers on 110th street had a 24 ounce burger challenge. If you can finish the 24 ounce burger, the fries, and the 20 ounce soda in 20 minutes you get a free lunch. It is only offered Monday-Thursday during lunch hours (I think 11-230), and there is a chance they stopped doing it after March.

A week in Manhattan - please help us make the most of it

I don't think I had a dessert when I was there, but I thought their main dishes were really, really good.

A week in Manhattan - please help us make the most of it

I'd highly second Degustation. Their food is truly amazing and, depending on what you order, you can walk out of there spending $150 or less with a bottle of their cheaper wine. To me, Degustation is a must.

Special birthday dinner for 2 - please help

Food-wise, I would second Degustation. Awesome, awesome food there. The one issue is seating-wise, it's kind of bar-style. Not to say it at all looks like a bar, but your sitting around the kitchen (which is cool because you watch them cook everything), but if you are looking for a place where you can kind of face each other, this one could be tough. But it is a truly fantastic restaurant.

Romantic yet cheap restaurants?

Well if she doesn't drink, that will certainly make things easier for you in terms of the $$$. Anyways, assuming that their inside garden is heated (and now that I'm thinking about it, it might not be which would make this all moot), I'd go to La Lanterna Caffe. You can call to find out though, and it would definitely fit well within your price range.

http://lalanternacaffe.com/

Inside it is quite dark, which is romantic in a way, but not nearly as nice as the garden. They also have a downstairs area where there is live jazz.

edit: I just looked at the website and right there in big letters it says the Winter Garden is open. I think it is exactly what you are looking for.

Best fried chicken?

If you are ever in Queens, you should check out UFC (Ultimate Flying Chickens). Very similar to Bon Chon and you can get it for takeout or you can sit there with it. It's damn good and cheaper than Bon Chon.

Yankee Stadium eating places...

Your best off eating in the area at Feeding Tree.

What should I order at Strip House?

I always get the NY Strip myself and I absolutely love Strip House.

Looking for casual Italian on UES

I know this is a bit late as I'm hoping to find a place for tonight that I can go to in like an hour, but I was seeing if anyone knew a good but casual Italian restaurant on the Upper East Side. A place where it wouldn't be a problem to wear jeans and a t shirt. I'm hoping to spend no more than around $75 for 2 people before tip and with a bottle of wine. Thanks in advance!

Best fried chicken?

I would second Charles'. It's quite good. The problem though is you just aren't going to get truly GREAT southern fried chicken in NYC. None of this compares to places down south.

My favorite kind of fried chicken that I can get in NYC is probably Korean Fried Chicken. Bon Chon is quite good as is UFC (Unidentified Flying Chickens), which is in Queens and is cheaper but just as good.

Best Thai in Queens?

Sripraphai with Chao Thai, Nusara, and Zabb Thai being a notch below. If you are looking for extremely hot Thai food, Chao and Nusara are the places to go.

Five Guys Burgers & Fries - Anyone Been?

Been to the one in Bristol, CT a bunch of times, and it is very good. The problem is that if you eat it more than twice a month, you'll have a heart attack within a year.

Inexpensive/ great steakhouse

I'll second Azul. Great place.

Best Mexican in NY

I haven't been yet, but if you are willing to go to Queens, this sounds like the place:

good pizza outside Yankee Stadium?

My friend got a slice from a place a block and a half away from the stadium and said it was the worst pizza he had ever had. My guess is the answer to your question is no.

Lunch around Yankee Stadium...

If you like Jamaican food, Feeding Tree is the place. There is also a good Hispanic restaurant called El Molino Rojo that I just tried. Both those places are restaurants, not really bars.

As for bars, the main place is Stans. Stans and all of them are pretty much the same and will all be very crowded. The place I usually go to is Vega Alta, which is right next to Feeding Tree. It is a Hispanic bar with a Yankee theme and is less crowded than the other places.

Worst Beer Ever?

I've become a bit of a beer snob, so the bud light, miller light, coors light - all that stuff is not sufficient for me.

Anyways, the worst beer in the world was a beer I forget the name of. My friend and I, a number of years ago, got a 6 pack of the cheapest beer in a deli late one night. It was a Hispanic beer, possibly Mexican, that was the worst tasting thing I've ever had. Literally undrinkable.
