Greetings Chowhounders! Group of New Orleans guys coming to Vegas this week. Best Man (me) and Groom come up a day early (Wednesday) to hang and do our thing before the rest of the crew (4-6 dudes) show up. Looking for ideas and suggestions. I love Vegas and have been 10-13 times in adult life....will have a car. I know my way around really well. Mixing one or two high end dinners with breakfast joints, dives, ethnic, brewpubs, a buffet, and whatever comes our way... Night one is just best man and groom. We always enjoyed good meals together in New Orleans so I am looking for something special, over the top and decadent. I am thinking CarneVino. Looks awesome but the crazy seafood place at Wynn that is on Bizarre Foods America sure has my interest. Rest of fellas get in on Thursday night. Was thinking Pink Taco for dinner for fun more so than food. Shots of tequilla, a bite, high energy, etc. Yes or No???? Breakfast joints that will not be missed are White Cross Drug Store and Hash House (not Hash House a Go-Go but the locals Has House way off strip) Terrible shame that Binion's Coffee Shop is closed! Have heard great things about Dupar's at Golden Gate. We have 2 nights Treasure Island and 2 nights Golden Nugget. I have a car and drive everywhere (once drinking I cab everywhere!) Need lunch and or dinner recs for Friday night....might do something a little more casual like brewpub meal at Triple 7 Brewpub at Main Street Station. I have hit SIAM in the past so it might get a lunch showing. Big group dinner is Saturday night and we might go old school and just hit the Golden Steer private room. We did it on my bachelor party with tremendous results. Really just need a few lunch rec's and maybe Friday night dinner rec. I would do the crazy group dining meal at Pearl. It looks awesome! Sunday I am somewhat locked in on M Resort's Seafood Brunch. Drunks snacks not limited but to include: So you might read this and think, "jeez, this guy has a ridiculous list of places!" I am still open to any suggestions or ideas! Thank you so much, Michael Cegielski |

how is the pizza at port of call? i have always been curious on both their steaks and their pizza. i did try a simple house salad with bleu cheese once and it was great. just simple iceberg and some tomato's i believe but i remember it being ice cold and fresh. |

Marigny Brasserie needs Gordon Ramsey! I emailed them deep specifics. They have a ton to work on from my notes. I am not picky or fussing having worked many kitchens in my life. It was a disgrace every step of the way except for our server. I feel bad for our server who told us to ask for her when we come in as if it was Galatoire's and you want a regular. ugh! no reason to go back unless starving and everything (including Burger King) is closed! That bad. 0 out of 10. |

dumb name for a restaurant....looks to be sysco heaven and frozen city when i see deliveries going in. the kitchen nightmares episode was a total joke. i don't know how anyone could go there after that! |

Marigny Brasserie needs Gordon Ramsey! Someone from the restaurant did call my cell and left a message. sometimes i do not check my messages for a day or two and i will have 5-10 messages stacked up. i was checking messages a few days ago and sure enough i had about 8 messages on the phone i had not heard yet and one of them was "this is so and so from the marigny brasserie, we received your email, please give us a call back at blah blah blah." i am impressed that they actually did reply. i have yet to call them back and i doubt that i will. the meal was now a few weeks ago and i know i will never eat there again unless it is sold and a new concept goes in, the place is nice...the bar is cool (but needs to get stocked and stay stocked not be out of half of everything! same goes for the food).....they just need to revamp all of the food! big time. ugh! i get scared thinking about that meal from that night. booze booze booze....only way to fight off those nasty ice cold stuffed shrimp. blech!!!!! |
Marigny Brasserie needs Gordon Ramsey! Yeah I do. Pathetically poor business practice to not reply to a customer contact through one's website...then again perhpas you are right... they can't get that right either. |

Marigny Brasserie needs Gordon Ramsey! Oh yes Kibbles, I love fried green tomatoes with shrimp remoulade. I was blasting Marigny Brasserie for their pathetic rendition of it! I emailed them describing the whole experience 5 days ago and I have not yet received a reply! |

Marigny Brasserie needs Gordon Ramsey! no i wasn't aware. out of town guests choose it and i was along for the ride and did not feel like bullying them into my choice.... |

Marigny Brasserie needs Gordon Ramsey! Wow. I am speechless. Without a doubt the worst meal I have ever had after living in New Orleans for 13 years was last night at the Marigny Brasserie. They really need to get their act together. First off they were out of a million different things. I understand this but it was a Saturday night. Plan accordingly. Also, I didn't really need to hear how busy you were over and over on Friday. That is your problem not mine. Everything was awkward from the start with drinks orders to screwed up drinks and screwed up dishes but the worst possible problem was that the food was not cold, it was ICE cold. Stuffed shrimp with pasta.....it was 100% obvious that the shrimp and stuffing were made during the day then thrown into a steamer. That is fine but make sure it is hot! It wasn't. What is less appealing than icy cold stuffing on a cold dried out shrimp????? Nice ceasar salad....kidding! Could it kill you guys to throw a couple croutons on it??? Fried green tomato with shrimp remoulade? Are you kidding me? Three super thin sliced of friend green tomato with 4-5 mealy, bait, tiny, canned, shrimp on top with a 3rd of a spoonful of remoulade sauce. Again, EPIC FAIL!!!!! Some friends were in town and one of the ladies in the group had a wonderful meal there years ago but I suspect if was before the menu change to burgers, po-boys, salads, and pasta. AWFUL....EPIC FAIL. They should be ashamed! Their incredible location will keep them in stellar business but I was absolutely SHOCKED at how awful a meal this was. While watching Hell's Kitchen or Kitchen Makeover or whatever it is with Gordon Ramsey it came to mind again after that meal as I was leaving.....All I could think was they need a complete overhaul from top to bottom. SHAME! |

do yourself a huge favor and head over to the westbank and get off at barataria and take a left and go down about half a mile and you will see Sal's Seafood on your right. Go there for hot boiled crawfish. you might be a little early in February some places might have others might not you better call ahead everywhere first! But check out Sal's Seafood on Barataria. It is excellent and a killer experience all around! |

i miss Progress because they would create some different things that weren't really a Muff but were to my tastes. Turkey, Ham, Salami, the cheeses and the olive salad. LOVED IT. |

Another rehearsal dinner question Atchafalaya would be excellent as well! great bar, great people, interesting food, cool cocktails, wonderful vibe all around! |

Another rehearsal dinner question this question comes up a ton and once again I have to chime in because my memories of this evening are so fond. we were able to book out all of casamento's. we had close to 60 guests. it might be a little more casual than what you are looking for and they only have beer and wine. however, they have a great oyster bar, great gumbo, and it was a laid back fun "only in new orleans" type of experience. had to sell them on the idea as they do not usually do private parties on the day of the week we needed but we broke it down by overall total cost and then i guess they realized it was a wise move. to have the whole place with a guy shucking fresh oysters, ice cold abita's flowing and fresh friend oysters, trout and shrimp was amazing! everyone had gumbo as well and fried crab claws. people hung at the oyster bar and there was no assigned seating you just went wherever you pleased! some jokesters snuck down to mr.s mae's for rounds of shots. it was a incredibly fun night. since you were going to be on napoleon i thought you might be close. |

HELP! Need a rehearsal dinner suggestion! 60 guest under a 100 per person is how much? 3-4K? that's 60 guests at 50 per head. here a suggestion. we did it and it went off with flying colors. casamento's on magazine (near Magazine and Napoleon) let us book out the whole place. abita beers, oyster bar, gumbo, crab claws, fried seafood or fried seafood sandwiches. it was awesome and it was a total New Orleans feel. you have to talk them into it though! they usually do not do this. i sold them on the idea. told them to have custoerms til 7:30pm. we get there at 7:30 sharp and we spend 3000 minimum. it worked! it was also a memorable experience that our guests loved. betyter yet, we cabed to the columns hotel before dinner and after dinner for drinks then we high tailed it to tipitina's and lebon temp roule for dancing the night away at both! might be nice for your guests to see more than the french quarter! check it out. it rocked, it was different and it was new orleans through and through. drop a few hundred more and you can get a brass band to come do a walk through and bust out a 15 minute set at the end of the meal! talk about a party! |

Looking for the Soul of New Orleans if you want the bomb boiled seafood raw oyster real experience head to sal's seafood on the west bank. barataria blvd. google it. |
Advise for Crawfish Boil Mar 2012 you need to get out of the quarter for this. do you have a rental car? i've got 2-3 really good suggestions but they are all about 15 min from FQ. those are for the most part all tourists traps with bad food. |
Looking for the Soul of New Orleans Harbor is good but Sal's is better and a better experience. |
Looking for the Soul of New Orleans Get in your car or rental car and head over to the Westbank and get off of Pontchartrain Hgwy at Barataria. Take a left. Watch for Sal's Seafood. Pull in. Order any boiled seafood they have available, some oysters, some crab dip, potato's, beers. If you want a slice of real life and soul and want to be "far away from tourists" and "into the grime" as you say then this is what you are really looking for. This is a fully functional seafood shack in all it's glory. Not fancy. Hardcore seafood shack with deli type carryout order area and a minimal dining room and bar with boiled seafood dumped out on newspapers. A newspaper review said "bare bones seafood gluttony." This is a slice of Louisiana you can't get in the Quarter or even really Uptown. 1512 Barataria Blvd., Marrero, 504.341.8112 Let us know where you end up. Enjoy. |

i had a pretty rough encounter of just rudeness when picking up a sandwich once. sandwich was awesome but the snotty vibe has prevented a return. |

Bear's in Mandeville has awesome fried pickles but again probably too far for casual visitor. their roast beef is out of this world too! |

yeah, price doesn't seem like an issue. not doing a takeout order put me off. sorry, i know there is a way you want people to experience your pizzas but this would of been customer likes to get a pizza to take out.....that is after all one of the joys of pizza. and for the poster who will tell me that they don't care about whether or not people like their rules well that is great for them! i felt midway's crust was lacking...just a tasteless hunk of dough...the sauce seemed like straight up tomato paste with little else added to it, the cheese seemed like the cheeper variety that tastes like rubber and the whole thing could have used 4-5 more minutes in the oven! damn shame! i am sure i would love ancora from what i have been told and the pics i have seen look great....too bad for me and them! |

Uptown (Riverbend/Carrolton area) best restaurants whatever to both of you! vincents is seafood heavy and very rich. elaborate on why vincent's is "terrible" all items fresh and made on-site. it is not a super high end or a gourmet experience....it is a good ole creole italian stalwart!!!!! corn and crab bisque forever!!!!!! |
